  1. Slightly different for me. I use ACS Pro 17s and 10s. I find the 17s are excellent for taming the rock band I'm in or going to a gig. The 10s work well for me in rehearsals when the volume is lower but you still want protection from cymbals / snare etc.
  2. This was once mine, for about 4 years.....😟 @ziggydolphinboy.....and here's me wondering why you don't see any Flamboyants for sale.....you own them all! 😒🤣🤣
  3. 35 microns seems very small and equals about 1 thousandth of an inch which is virtually flat / no relief. My basses range from .010" to .020" (converts to 270 microns to 530 microns). Over the years I've collected relief info from various manufactures and the range is about .010" to .020" (Fodera .010" / Wal .016" / Sadowsky .010" / Mayones Jabba .022" / Lakland .008") As others have said I use this as a start point and then tweak to suit.
  4. Ey up....from a Yorkshire man living in Aberdeen. Welcome David 👍
  5. I did some hunting and found a link to the old Audere site with a similar preamp on it here. It has an explanation of what the 6-way switch does. It looks like the one for sale has the knobs on the plate rotated by 180deg with the vol where the 6 way should be @jamesugster?? Looks an interesting preamp and I'd like to try it out but dont have a need at the moment. 😟
  6. She does have a great voice and I've got to say the band as a whole are excellent! Great feel, balance and groove. It's also nice to see a drummer play with dynamics and not trying to kill their kit. 🤣 I'm going through the same work process of getting a start up band together and although it's taken a lot of doing I'm pleased where we have got to. We're doing covers but have a "guideline" of not covering the same tracks everyone else does and it's been a breath of fresh air and well worth the work. Some of the tracks we do are : Say It Isn't So - Daryl Hall & John Oates, Free - Denice Williams, Never Too Much - Luther Vandross, Rock Steady - Aretha Franklin, When Will You Be Mine - Average White Band, Stop By Monies - Liquid Soul, Time Won't Wait - Jamiroquai etc Next rehearsal is tomorrow afternoon to go over some stuff ready for New Years Eve 👍
  7. Round here if you mention "blues band" to most of the publicans / promoters it will put them off booking you as they think it's going to be "very-slow-blues-dirges-that-have-solos-that-go-on-foreveeeeeeeeer".......and they might be right. 🤣 Call yourselves "blues-rock" and you're fine and it gives you latitue to play stuff or arrangements that the "blues-chin-strokers" have less to complain about. "Blues" tends to go through periods of popularity cycles so personally I would not have "blues" in the band title as it may deter both publicans and punters. YMMV 🤷‍♂️
  8. EXL means nickel strings and EPS means stainless in D'Addario language. I have a set of these on my 35" scale bass if that helps. The windings would be too short for 36" scale or if you're running strings through the body.
  9. Just bought lots'n'lots of strings from Jodie. Great strings, comms, shipping etc. Many thanks.
  10. Just watched it. Very well written and presented. I enjoyed it 👍
  11. Tsk, tsk, tsk.......there you go again., using logic and common sense! The GAS Police will be round to make you see the errors of your ways 🤣 🤣 Totally agree with you on the "play what you want / need / afford / comfortable with". 👍
  12. Maybe use one of the M5 inserts on the top handle with a slightly longer bolt? It also means you can still use of the handle.
  13. Ola Leigh and welcome to Basschat. I can see you're already an early adopter of GAS (Gear Aquisition Syndrome). Usually this develops over time but it's good to see you excelling so early 🤣 You also have achieved 100% of what I think music is all about......having fun 👍 Looking forward to hearing how your journey progresses.
  14. Hola, This was answered on Talkbass, post #7....here. 👍
  15. Michael just bought my Seymour Duncan pickups. Payment was made faster than I can spend it! 😮🤣 Comms great. Many thanks
  16. For sale, in superb condition, are my Seymour Duncan SSB-5 NYC Dual Coil 5 String bridge and neck soapbar style passive humbucker pickups, SSB-5NYC-B (bridge) and SSB-5NYC-N (neck). The 4 wire pickups can be wired in several different configurations either permanently or switchable with a 3 way DPDT switch to give parallel / single coil / series options. The switch allows 3 different voicings from Vintage J Bass, Noiseless single coil to maximum output and full sound. The Basslines logo is the only sign of slight use. New versions of the pickups (post 2022) are now printed with “Seymour Duncan” as the logo. Name change info. I have attached files giving the pickup dimensions and the wiring options available. The pickups are currently priced on Thomann at £360 for a pair - Here. As Aberdeen is a long way from most of civilisation I am including shipping to mainland UK, using Parcelforce. I'm open to shipping to outside the UK and will quote the cost on a case by case basis. Size: approx 100mm x 36mm Magnet material: Alnico II DC resistance bridge: 5.2 kOhm DC resistance neck: 4.6 kOhm Shielded 4-wire connection cable Made in USA

  17. The offers still on and cheaper now than when I bought them! 😮
  18. As others have said "your" setup will be determined by many factors - how hard you play / fingers or pick / string guage / neck relief / where you pluck eg: neck or bridge etc. I've tried many different setups over the years and have pretty much narrowed down what works for me and most of my basses but there's still variation in them. My B strings tend to measure 2 to 2.5mm at the 24th (or last) fret. I set my B and G strings to my preffered action height and then use a radius guage (see here) the same size as the fretboard and adjust the bridge saddles so the underside of the EAD strings align. See the pic below for a guide. Here's a link about setting string radius that may help - here.
  19. For sale (or trade) is my Overwater Progress III Deluxe bass including case. It is 23 years old but in superb condition and I am only the second owner. A while after I bought it I realised I wasn’t quite getting the sound I expected from an Overwater. After after consulting Chris May at Overwater I decided to upgrade the preamp and pickups for the current versions. It also transpired that when checked, one of the original pickups wasn’t working properly. The bass is now very versatile, balances well and easy to play. Why sell? Well, the merry-go-round of gear continues and I’ve decided I need to apply the rule as one comes in, another goes out. This sale includes the original Cornell preamp but not the pickups. There are some very small marks from use but easily missed and hard to photograph. The only real cosmetic issue is on the back edge of the bridge where the black coating is flaking in a couple of places, see the photos. On the back of the bass there is a laptop screen protector! I kid you not. I have used this on a number of my basses which reduces the chance of buckle rash. Peels off easy and doesn’t leave marks or residue. Collection preferred from Aberdeen so you can try it out. As Aberdeen is a long way from most of civilisation, I will ship to mainland UK at cost using Parcelforce. I’ve estimated this based on a London postcode to be £20 via Express24 (without insurance) Specs are: · Overwater Progress III Deluxe (2001) · Body: looks like birds-eye maple(?) · Fretboard: figured rosewood(?) · Neck thru: 36” scale · Pickups & preamp: latest Overwater versions fitted · Controls: vol with pull bright switch, balance, treble, mid, bass · Internal pickup output balance trim pots · ¼” jack and XLR outputs · String spacing: 18mm at the bridge 9.5mm at the nut · Weight: 10.2 lbs / 4.6kg · Strings: Overwater XL5 (.044 to .125) · Neck relief currently set at 0.010”, truss rod fully working
  20. Does the PLI include gear insurance? To what level / value?
  21. For sale (or trade) is my Bergantino Forte D amp in superb condition including Gator case. I bought it from Bass Direct at the end of June ’23 for £899. According to Mark, the previous owner only owned it for 3 months from new! This makes it approx. 20 months old….a mere baby. These are now £1,199 new (Bass Direct) so I think it makes mine look quite a bargain! Great amp, with a great reputation, powerful, articulate, open sounding. Mainly home use and only gigged it half a dozen times. I’ve used it with both my Berg and Vanderkley cabs and never had to have the volume above “11 o’clock”. It is LOUD, clear and punchy! Why sell? Well the merry-go-round of gear continues and I’ve just bought a Glockenklang…….as one comes in, another goes out. Collection preferred from Aberdeen so you can try it out. As Aberdeen is a long way from most of civilisation, I will ship to mainland UK at cost using Parcelforce. I’ve estimated this based on a London postcode to be - £12 via Express24 with no insurance OR £40 via Express24 including insurance. Specs are: · 800W RMS output (@ 2 Ω), 700W RMS (@ 4Ω), 350W RMS (@ 8Ω) · 4-Band EQ with Bright Switch · Bass: +/- 10dB @ 60Hz / LoMid: +/- 10B @ 250Hz / HiMid: +/- 10dB @1kHz / Treble: +/- 10dB @3.5khz / Bright Filter: 8db @ 7khz · Single-knob BFT (Big Fat Tube) Drive circuit · Micro-controlled fan · Auxiliary Input and Headphone jacks · Effects send and return loop · Dual Speakon Outputs · Studio-Quality DI – selectable Pre or Post EQ · Line Output – tuner out · Dimensions (WxDxH): 10.5″W x 8.375”D x 3.75”H · Weight: 6.5 lbs
