Which lightweight power amp to pair with a valve preamp?
Acebassmusic replied to Freddie75's topic in Amps and Cabs
Powersoft do good reasonable weight Class D amps with plenty of grunt. Best check the secondhand options unless you have a hotline to Santa! -
Here's an alternative thought.....whats your technique like? How high / low do you sling your bass? I have found from experience that doing this bit "wrong" can seriously affect the amount of effort needed and reduces your playing time. When I first started bass (4 string) I hooked my thumb over the top of the fret board which stiffened my hand / wrist / arm and made playing difficult. As you like your current bass, maybe its worth having someone look at the way you play before modding your bass? Just my 2p I hope you find a solution soon.

righty tighty, lefty loosey? not correct?
Acebassmusic replied to 40hz's topic in Repairs and Technical
If you moved the rod counter clockwise that is to the left, therefore loosening the rod. -
RNC compressors seem to get a good review. Not used them myself. http://www.fmraudio.com/rnc.html
I have the Streamliner one, but I want a Shuttle set as well!
I got a rack blanking plate. Cut bolt hole ends off to length. Drill extra mounting holes in the plate for the Shuttle casing. Bend to shape. Fit, plug in and play.
Did it not occur to them that they were buying 30 years of continual R&D and fine-tuning?
Maybe thats the problem....I though it was a Fender company policy to not update on designs...... (runs and ducks for cover........) Back on topic.... I have a ShuttleMax 9.2, great amp, plenty of power, lighter than a light thing thats been on a diet, well made etc. I have 2 other amps (Demeter pre/power amp & Alembic / Powersoft) that see more use than the GB at the moment. No particular reason and at some point the GB will become the main one again....and the cycle continues

Hi All, I've been looking to replace the pots on one of my basses as they are getting worn / loose and probably ready to die after 20+ years of work! The bass is active with originally installed Bartolini pre-amp etc. I got a copy of the wiring diagram which shows the specs of the pots and I've check that with whats installed in the bass. All OK so far..... So I then try to source replacements using the usual known suppliers Maplin, RS, Allparts etc and find that I'm really struggling to get some of the items. My shopping list is: Volume : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 25 K-ohm, audio / log taper Blend / Pan : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 250 K-ohm, Dual MN taper with centre detent Treble & Bass pots : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 500 K-ohm, audio / log taper with centre detent Mid : 3/8" (9.5mm) diam. bushing, standard length, 50 K-ohm, audio / log taper with centre detent I can get the vol & pan pretty easily but treble, mid and bass pots with centre detent seem to be elusive at the moment. Active basses with cut and boost are pretty common nowadays and similar pots would be used in audio equipment so my quest shouldnt be THIS hard! I've tried the parts suppliers in the pinned thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/248-recommended-spare-parts-suppliers-guidesdiagrams/ Can anyone advise where I should look or manufacturers I can contact? I would like to get good quality replacements so any brands to look out for or keep clear of would be appreciated. Thanks Mike

what amp do you use with your Barefaced super 12T
Acebassmusic replied to Kevin Dean's topic in Amps and Cabs
With my Barefaced Big Twin T I use various combinations of Demeter HBP1-800D, Alembic F-1X into a Powersoft LD2004 or a Genz-Benz ShuttleMax 9.2. I prefer using the Demeter or Alembic / Powersoft over the Genz as they seem to give the clarity and sound I like. Clean, full range, hi-fi and punchy but not wooly or brittle. I'm not saying the Genz is sub-par in any way as its one heck of an amp, just slightly prefer the others. What sort of sound are you looking for from your set-up? -

Does body wood make a difference to the sound of a bass guitar?
Acebassmusic replied to Annoying Twit's topic in Bass Guitars
I think it was on Talk Bass that a guy did such a test using a Jazz bass. He recorded the bass as standard and then swapped out the body for a random lump of wood he found. He was quite particular to place the bridge / pickups / action so that any changes were attributed to only the body wood. I think the result was that in this case there was very little discernable difference. I'll see if I can find the link......here it is : http://www.talkbass.com/threads/scrap-lumber-bass-vs-alder-bass-can-you-tell-the-difference.743932/ -
Did somebody say Modulus? Ash body, mahogany core, spalted maple top, "1000 dancing ladies" graphite neck, John East U-Retro preamp, MEC pick-ups (I think).
Custom wound Aero pickups. The bass was originally made for a Doctor in Houston who sold it onto a shop called Danny D's. I picked it up there and brought it back to the UK in Nov 2006.

Turn the tuning knob anti-clockwise. This should move the bolt back into the knob and the string holder should appear as if by magic at the pickup side. The ball end should then come out easily.

I sold my Fender Jazz FMT to Andrew who paid promptly, had lots of questions and good communication throughout. I'm happy to give him positive feedback. Hope you're enjoying the bass.

Depends what you want to do. I use a TC Electronics G-Major 2 with a Tech21 NYC Midi Moose floor pedal for changing patches.
