Help me find a valve for my Alembic F-1X
Acebassmusic replied to Ghost_Bass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Hi, I've got an Alembic F1X and swapped out the standard tube for a RCA 5751 and have used a GE 5751 as well. Both tubes run at approx 70% gain of the typical 12AX7 so you wont get the same volume or ability to add "distortion" out of them. I wasn't looking for volume or distortion when I chose the 5751's but a smoother sound with lots of clarity. I did a bit of research (geekery!) and found quite a bit of info both on here and Talkbass etc. When I get home I will try and remember to edit my post with some of the links if I can find them. Regarding fitting - I have had no problems fitting any replacement tubes into the carrier / sleeve. -
Just bought a Mono strap from Lawrie. Great deal. Many thanks.

Overwater Progress iii 5 String Deluxe. Traded
Acebassmusic replied to tbonepete's topic in Basses For Sale
Nice bass. I would be interested but logistics for a "hand over" swap might stop it happening as I'm based in Aberdeen! Anyway I have a Fender FMT 5 string active that I can offer in exchange. Its fitted with Nordstrands and a Babicz bridge (originals and Fender hard case come with it). Heres a piccy for starters. If you're interested I can send more -
this is the new usa style Fender headstock...innit?
Acebassmusic replied to Shonks's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
don't see how that makes it alright...what about the bidders? Can't really move the goal posts after the ball's been kicked.
My sarcasm was lost in the text..... -

He's amended his listing with "US FENDER PRECISION STYLE BASS GUITAR" lower down the text......so that makes it all ok now.....unless you miss that bit of course..... -
Just recieved some strings from Greg. Really easy transaction with lots of good communication. 'Twas a pleasure

Interesting rant you have there....especially as one of your "fave bassists" could easily be tagged with the title of "a bassist that pushed boundries"....a certain Mr James Jamerson. His bass lines were (and still are) revered as something that made others take notice of the bass as an instrument in its own right. An instrument that could have its own voice and could play melodies within a song.....just like a lead guitarist and other instruments do. One of the many bass roles is to keep it all together. Sometimes this requires leading from the front, sometimes more of an accompanying role. I'm lucky that in my band I play a wide range of music that encompasses root / fifth lines along with busy, fast lines that define a track. I think its great that we still have people who are trying to push the boundries, just like Jamerson, Jaco etc. Not all of it is going to work, but maybe something interesting might come out of it. If Jamerson hadn't "pushed" then we all would have missed out

Soooooo... Anyone using the Fractal AxeFX for bass then?
Acebassmusic replied to Dood's topic in Effects
The Kemper idea I like, but not so much the built in power amp.
From what I could see on the Kemper I think you can get them in Rack (just the effects section) or Power Rack (effects and power amp). Also have you looked at the Eventide Eclipse as an alternative? -
Hi, I think you need to repost in the "For Sale" section, mkre people will see it there. Do you have any specs (weight, string spacing etc) and pictures? Cheers

Here's my contribution a W&T Chronos "Klimt" bought off here (Basschat) a little while ago. The wood (quilted poplar) look like water…..

Here's a couple of shots of my Ritter 10th Anniversary....the one my wife "forced" me to buy!
Oh you live in THAT part of the Deen!
Shhh…. Don’t tell everyone! Although the haggis do make such a squealy growling noise you probably could work out the location just by listening and following your ears!
Where is it that you live? What times are you usually out of the house? Seriously though what a beautiful collection of basses... Don't suppose you could be persuaded to part with that wal?
Even if you knew where I lived in Aberdeen you'd stilll have to get past the dozen or so killer guard haggis I have stationed 24 hours a day out side.... Thanks everyone on the compliments. It's taken a fair few years and lots of overtime to build this little lot up. My wife has not only encouraged me to buy them but in one case (the Ritter) told me I must buy it! From the first time I saw a Wal to getting my mits on mine last year was about a 25 year wait......I'm not quite ready to part with it just yet.... ...especially as its got pretty blue LED's! (What is it about techy / geeky bass players and flashy lights? I guess that could be a thread in itself...lol)

The next "big thing" in bass development?
Acebassmusic replied to Ghosts Over Japan's topic in Bass Guitars
For me the next "big thing" doesnt have to be unique, never before seen, but could be the utilisation of technology in a way not fully exploited before or by making it available to a wider (bigger) audience. I know that some of the ideas below have been done before, its just that its usually theres something thats stopped them becoming widespread. Some ideas: Midi bass / interface that really works and doesnt cost the earth but allows you to use your bass Setting and saving amp eq to presets for easy re-call Alternate materials / composites (although I think Status might have been doing something like this for a while )
