The next "big thing" in bass development?
Acebassmusic replied to Ghosts Over Japan's topic in Bass Guitars
Hey you never know, 10 years ago I used to wonder when a major brand would release a 7 string bass. Ibanez did that a few months back!
I remember seeing about 10 years ago in the States, Conklin Groove Tools had their Korean version of the Sidewinder 7 string bass on sale at Guitar Centres. Although not as major a brand as Ibanez, but certainly not boutique. -

just spotted a lovely lookin MTD kingston Z bass
Acebassmusic replied to winterfire666's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Looks quite nice. Those dings could be worked on if you really wanted to. Bass Direct have new Kingston Z (lefty) for £800 special price so £400 doesnt seem bad to me. If you got the Ebay one and didnt like it you'd probably get your money back when you sell it -

what's the gorgeous one pointing the the 10o'clock position with the crazy double wooden top? wouldn't mind another full picture of that beauty! Stunning collection Cai
It’s an original USA made Conklin Sidewinder custom “melt-top”. Most Conklins you see in the UK are the Groove Tools Korean(?) models. Have a look at some of the crazy work they do here: http://www.conklinguitars.com/ I’m thinking of thinning the herd down a bit more and this may be on that list with the Fender FMT. No doubt I’ll regret it….sob…sob

Nice and sunny day in Aberdeen so I thought I would take a few of pics of "the family". Especially as I think I've just sold a couple and they will be leaving home soon. Here's one of them just lounging about If anyone's interested I can post a few more....

I did think about getting our kick drum skin done but then thought about where most of our gigs are - pubs, where the bass drum is below eye level and hidden behind our singers legs. I went for a banner for behind the band so all the audience could see who we are. Just my 2p worth....

Oooh.....subscribed and looking forward to the next instalments. This is going to be a pair of basses VERY different to normal. You seem to have listed a lot of things people tend not to like on a bass - figured "coffee table" top, single cut, chambered, carved top, headless, wide body, more than 4 strings, F-hole, blue-burst, active elecs.....I love the idea of combining them all
I just heard a loud clattering sound from the kitchen.
....preparing a "slap"-up meal no doubt....... Coat got.....

Hi there, Welcome from another north o' the border! The bass looks a bit like a Hondo II Proffesional that I used to have many, many years ago. Weighed an absolute ton! if you put Hondo II Proffesional into Google you will get some similar images eg: http://www.instrumentwire.com/guitar-ad-e300930014552 Mike

A case of cashing in on the rose tinted first bass spectacles perhaps (if there is such a thing as first bass spectacles,
Oh yes….I too had a pair of those vision enhancing spectacles! My first bass (after bodging together a home made Frankenstein) was a brand spanking new Kay “Les Paul-ish” shaped bass. I was 16 with cash burning in my pocket and I wanted a bass….any bass.

Just bought a Samson C-Control & C-Que8 Headphone Amp from Alex. Good deal, great communication and packaging. What more can I say....thanks

Looks like a bad refret job to me as you can see where the fretboad wood has been lifted when pulling the old ones out. I guess the frets have been cut to length before fitting and not long enough to be trimmed / dressed afterwards. Also the crowns have been ground pretty flat in places. I wouldnt be too happy with this

I've just recently had a new amp shipped from the US. The sender used the US Postal Service (which turned out to be cheaper than any other courier quote I'd been given). Once the package was with UK Customs they sent me a nice letter asking for the duty due and once it was paid I got a spanking new amp for about 60% of the same one over here. When I had tried to get a quote from the usual couriers I use over here, the general response was they might agree to do imports but it would cost a lot more to do this from the UK end. To give you some idea shipping quotes I got for the same item : to arrange and ship from the US end = $110 (£60), to arrange and ship from the UK end = £170. It seems the general rule is its easier to ship OUT of a country than IN. Anyway, more importantly....whats the bass?. Wheres the pics? New? Pre-loved? Good for metal?

Lots of good entries I agree :-) Anyone else having trouble loading Lowdown http://soundcloud.co...b/club-retro-75 ? I can get to the page but nothing plays I'll try again later as well.

Not sure if anyone's interested but I spotted this Jaydee Calibas 6 on Gumtree. I used to have the 5 string version and it was a great bass. This one seems to have a much better pedigree than mine though!
