I watched most of her set on Iplayer today, I was not really that au fait with her stuff but thought her performance was much better than lots of the other acts I had seen. I think there was a problem with the live sound on a number of the bands at this years Glasto, a few were ropey until about three songs in to their sets. Overall, and I speak as a former Glastonbury attendee I think the line up was weak this year, but it has been getting progressively worse (or I am getting older). People moaning about being off key a few times when nervous, what about Dolly Parton miming last time FFS that's a real travesty.

[attachment=195357:3 x precisions 003.JPG] Here a my three, a 1973 I bought on here from Mikkel, the previous owner to him had put a fretless laminate over the top of the fretboard, I had "Guitar Angel" change it back, she removed the laminate and the original fretboard was intact including the dots, so it was just refretted with period fretwire and set up. The middle one is a 1978 but its pick guard is on the Olympic white at the moment. This is all original and has a fabulous neck but it is a bit heavy but sounds all the better for it. The right hand one is a 1973 ash bodied originally maple fretboard bass, when I got this sight unseen off ebay it had been incorrectly fretted and had a Jazz pick up and active electronics fitted. I had "Guitar Angel" remove the fretboard and fit a rosewood board. The cavities on the body (Jazz pick up and battery box) where filled with ash, the body was refinished in Olympic white nitro and given a vintage tint, the pick up is an 1982 62 vintage reissue and with the exception of the pots, knobs and jack socket the rest is all original, I have all the pick up covers for all of them. The only problem is which to play!

[attachment=195356:3 x precisions 003.JPG] Here are my three, going left to right, a 73, a 78 and a 73 that's been refinished and had a new fretboard all in front of my Ampeg rig.

I think Nick Beggs would be perfect for this gig and might inject some vitality back into the band. Just my opinion though.

Close to the edge is still one of my favourite albums, it was the first rock record I bought as 14 year old. I think I will go and play fish out of water in tribute to Chris.RIP a true inspiration

I've been a couple of times with my mates, I just think the standard of bands has gone down. Although there is always interesting new bands to see. The BBC presenters annoy me with the exception of the lovely Jo Whilley and Mark Radcliffe

I saw them in their prime on the Overkill (I think) tour around 1979. They are not great now, oh my god its a drum solo!

I can remember drooling over the Wilson guitars in the old "Bells" catalogues many moons ago. I don't like the refinish on this one though! -
Thanks guys, it looks very white in the photos, but it is a more creamy colour in the flesh. The black pick guard is from my 78 Precision, I am going to swap them over and put the brown torti plate on this tomorrow as I think that will complete the look - thoughts?

Slightly delayed new old bass day, recently got my 1973 Precision back from Guitar Angel after its extensive refurb. Some may remember I bought a 1973 Precision that had been "worked on" it had a jazz pickup, a battery box on the back, a maple neck that had been incorrectly fretted,P and J Bartolini active pickups and a black pick guard a la Marcus Miller. Here are the photos. [attachment=194379:precision 001.JPG][attachment=194380:precision 006.JPG] Now after the excellent work(wo)manship of Angela is her in all her glory, Cavities filled with ash the same as the original body, neck sanded and a hand selected rosewood board fitted and fretted with period correct fretwire, 62 Vintage reissue pick up fitted, new pots and output socket and refinished in vintage tinted Olympic white. She looks and plays amazing in my opinion. I am well please with the results. Here are the photos. That looks great, not to my taste but excellent work. I think a dark wood inlayed swift in the truss rod cover would have looked cool and as a contrast to the MOP ones further up the headstock.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, how do you manage it?
paul j h replied to Horizontalste's topic in General Discussion
I have been having problems with carpal tunnel, I saw the doc was prescribed some tablets they didn't really work still had the numbness but not as bad. This Friday I had a cortisone injection, which was fine on Friday but Saturday I could not close my hand and had no power to even open a bottle, which was a concern as I was competing in a mountain bike event today. Thankfully all went well, no numbness so far and my hands appear to be back to pre carpal tunnel condition although it is early days yet. Cheers Paul. -

Hi I got mine from Bass gear, who I am more than happy to recommend, excellent service and very prompt delivery.

I agree, I have nothing but praise for this forum. I was only extolling the virtues of this site to a guitar/bass builder within the last hour (Guitar Angel)who is refinishing/fretting one of my basses.

What do you find at the end of a ledge?
paul j h replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
ras52 that more likely found at a "leg end" i'll get my coat. -
I previously subscribed to Rock n reel magazine, regularly there was articles on UK blues bands and visiting overseas blues artists. So it it does appear that there still is a, all be it smaller, thriving blues community you just have to seek it out. Incidentally if anyone wants a number of copies of the mag and the accompanying CDs for free, just cover the postage then PM me. Cheers Paul.
