Used it again at rehearsal last night with my souly/bluesy/rocky project. The keys player wasn't there last night so it quickly morphed into a 3 piece blues rock trio. The guitarist always plays far too loud with a very bright tone. Not pleasant and has a million super expensive pedals that all sound very similar. Anyway, the PF50t sounded great, didn't run out of power and looks great. Still happy with the decision.

Was going to go tonight but stupidly left it too late to get tickets. D'oh!

Maybe but I had it matched to the cab for maximum spl or whatever it's called. If you have the option of PA support, then I wouldn't hesitate but if they are really loud and you don't then I think you might struggle. Sorry for sitting on the fence. Probably doesn't help.

Ok so I finally got to use my new Ampeg PF50t in anger last night. I depped for a friends band, a 5 piece 2 guitar, heavy hitting drummer doing classic rock covers (GNR, ACDC, Thin Lizzy, etc). I used just one cab, a Barefaced Super Compact so I switched the amp to the 8 ohm setting. I was a little worried that it might not be able to handle the gig so I brought my Ampeg PF500 with me too just in case. Well that stayed in its case all night. The PF50 handled it with flying colours. Lovely sound, enough volume (got told that the bass was too loud but mgt) not lots of headroom but enough. I had a friend who is a musician in our audience who said it sounded fantastic. I also used a P bass (round wounds) with no pedals as there was not enough room on stage. Very happy bunny. Buy with confidence. Oh and the guitarist said "wow it looks like a V8 engine".

I used to be in a band with Craig Blundell (one of the contributors) for a couple of years (1998-2000) and weirdly/coincidentally we share the same birthday.

Or you could try some flats, or use a foam mute, roll off some of the tone on your bass, etc before you change your amp. It's cheaper and stops the GAS. +1 for the preamp pedal option too.

Ive just noticed this (away on holiday at the time). Sad news. I had a VT2 pedal and rack preamp. Spoke with him a few times. Seemed like a really nice bloke. He will be missed.

I'm happy to give our Canadian friend a free hours tour of London in my cab. Just PM me and hopefully we can sort it out a convenient time.

I'm a proper London Black Cabbie and the advice I always give to my passengers is to check out the Time Out website too. It has all the recommendations you need. 4 days isn't a lot of time to do everything, so be selective and pace yourself. Food wise: 1. Proper full English fry up (£6 each roughly). Will last you most of the day. 2. Pie and Mash (tie it in with going to Greenwich). There's a good one on the one way system. Goddards? There's a great comedy club there too called up the creek. If you go on a Sunday, it's cheap too (£7 each) and you can visit the cutty sark, museums, park, etc 3. Fish & Chips. Personally you can't beat eating them by the seaside but that will be an hour away on a train. Go to Brighton and then visit the Barefaced Boys. 4. Borough Market. It's a great place at the weekend for visiting and eating. 5. Curry. Everyone will send you down Brick Lane but there is better elsewhere such as Dishoom, Lahore, etc

Our long haired and bearded singer/guitarist always seems to take too long between songs? Not sure why but a regular thing. Anyway after a few times of this one of the punters shouts out "get on with it Jesus!" Both me and the drummer fosters ourselves laughing.

I think some of you are missing the seriousness of the situation here. We have a relationship between the Basschat buyer and seller who both did their best I.e. Prompt payment and then excellent packaging and fast delivery, only for this to be ruined by the ineptitude of RM. This will only make BC buyers and sellers reluctant to trade in the future if through no fault of their own, RM fail, damage the products and accept no responsibilities for their actions.

To give balance to this thread. I didn't want to remove the valves as they seemed very tight and didn't wish to break them. I also over packed the box with loads of bubble wrap, peanut packing, cardboard, etc. So much so that the top of the box was slightly bulging. Paul said there was nothing more I could have done. I believe that they must have either kicked it around the depot or the word 'fragile' is code to RM workers for please break. I offered to chase it up and replace one of the valves (mullard). Not sure what more I could have done. Wanted to set the record straight

Depends on the band. It was fine last night but are a bluesy, souly, funky thing. I guess if you play in a 2 guitar, Marshall stack metal band then you'd be buggered.

I recently ordered the PF50t. It took only a few days to arrive. Used it properly for the first time yesterday at rehearsal. Sounded great, especially when you dig in and all the valvey goodness comes out of the speaker. Personally, unless it's just a home/studio amp, I would cancel the order and upgrade to the PF50t for the extra £130. Otherwise you will struggle to be heard in a band.

No hum on mine. Sounds pretty loud too. Usually with my hybrid amps I have my bass volume on full, preamp up high for grit and the master low for overall volume. However, I've been told by my guitarist that on valve amps it's good to roll the volume on the bass down, preamp quite low and to have the master volume close to full on. Adjust preamp, next and then use the bass volume lastly on stage for extra bite. Will give it a try.

I went to a gig where the bass players combo started coughing and spluttering and then died. The look of 'oh flip' on his face and the bands. I calmly walked to my car and got my amp and cab from the boot and handed it to him. I am now loved by that band forever. I even got a dep gig from another band he plays in. I'm seen as a good player, nice guy, well prepared and reliable.

I ordered an Ampeg PF50t from Kenny's on Saturday. Polar sent me an email that it's being delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed everything's ok. Can't wait.

I was really after a ctm100 but yesterday pushed the button on an Ampeg PF50t from Kenny's Music - £429. Bargain!!! I already have a PF500 so can piggy back (if I need extra juice for dep gigs) but my thoughts were if I get a louder bass amp, the guitarist will only keep going louder, etc. Hopefully this strategy will help reign him back in! Really excited as this is my first valve amp and isn't the size of a sideboard and weigh more than Rik Waller after an all you can eat buffet!
