Hi, Would anyone of you out there in BC world have an Ashdown CTM100 I could try before I push the button on buying one. I live in Bromley, SE London/NW Kent. PMT can ship one to a store for me to try but they want me to put down a (refundable) 10% deposit! Is this now a thing? Not happy about slapping £115 on my card just to try out a bass amp and then wait for the refund. Most appreciated if any of you could help a fellow GAS sufferer

Loving the Ashdown love on here. I'm very tempted by the CTM100 to go fully down the old school valve route.

Over the last couple of years I have gone down the lightweight, class D route, firstly with an Orange Terror and then a Mark Bass Randy Jackson TTE500. They are great but always felt something was missing. So the other night I thought it would be interesting to take my old, heavy Crate BT-350 amp (Ampeg in disguise - made in the same factory, same parts, etc) that I've had from new for over 25 years. wow, what a tone. Real bottom end and a beautiful glassy mid range to boot. Really felt that the amp had massive authority in the rehearsal room. Felt like being the worlds greatest centre back! Weighs over 3 times as much as the others but I think it's worth it! Anybody else out there in BC world that maybe going backwards is the really the way forward?

What a bought getting a comfort strap? My old P Bass Special weighed a ton. Bought one of these and made it feel so much lighter.

Hi Matty, Big Billy Sheehan fan myself. I went to the Winery Dogs Dogcamp in the States a couple of years back. Borderline stalker I'm guessing that his sound probably originated out of necessity in a 3 piece band, using a lot of mid and overdrive to cover the lack of 2nd guitarist, and fill up the sound in solos. Once you then develop your own signature sound and style, people come to you as a brand to add value to their product/band. There are technically much better bass players out there (Dylan Wilson - Richie Kotzen's bassist) but they don't sound unique. Great for session work but will always be replaceable by the next newest, cheaper option. The downside is that being different polarises people but my theory is that it's better for 99% of the public to hate what you do as long as the 1% go crazy for you. That's a gold record in the UK. Better that than 100% go 'Meh'.
