Take 2 basses, one with rounds, the other with flats. Play 1 set with 1 bass and 1 with the other. Trust me no one cares as much as you do. just a thought experiment: try telling the guitarist you don’t like sound of his guitar, pedals or amp. I wonder how accommodating they would be. So why do you think you should. Find your own sound, own it and be happy with the choices you make.

I’ve just watched all 8 episodes and thought overall it was pretty good. However, I thought the main singer/songwriter/guitarist was too old, quite unlikeable and a massive control freak. So yes it was pretty spot on! 👍😂

New amp opinion/advice - Darkglass, Blackstar or Orange
pbasspecial replied to markbunney's topic in Amps and Cabs
+1 for the Ashdown ABM 600 or How about keeping your cab and getting an Orange AD200b? The big brother of what you already have. -
Or you could use an Octaver, add in a bit of clean blend so it doesn’t sound too synthy and play the normal B and let the pedal do the work.
-
Could you get away with a hipshot D tuner or have a bass strung BEAD?

Thanks for all your advice, both serious and funny ones. Just to be super clear. We are not a band as it’s a jam night band but the singer and guitarist are actually in one together, which I have depped for occasionally. The drummer and I play in a few different projects and are probably the best bassist and drummer in our area. Glad I feel vindicated by you guys. Thanks!

I personally think deps should probably get paid a little bit extra as they have had to spend some extra time learning new songs for the gig usually.
-
Glad it’s not just me being annoyed by the greediness of their actions. I have one more jam with them before I go away on holiday and after that I think I’ll ask the drummer if he wants to set up one with me and another singer/guitarist I know and split the money equally 3 ways.
-
I agree about openness and honesty. At the start it wasn’t exactly equal splits but I thought that after lockdown we were all then on equal splits. Obviously I was wrong!
-
Totally agree. It was their jam night originally but myself and the drummer have made it so much better over the years that it should now be a no brainier about equality.
-
They have a PA but to be fair it’s not great and the drummer has a better one if needed. £50 x 25 weeks is an extra £1250 in their pockets between them every year.

I wondered what everyone’s thoughts are on how bands split the money they make from gigs and jam nights, etc? I recently walked away from one band that I played with for the last 6 years when I realised that he singer/guitarist had been creaming off the top for quite a while. We weren't even gigging all the time and he had a full time job so it’s not like he desperately needed an extra £50 every 3 months! He lost a decent bass player over it. So, I just discovered last night that the jam night I’ve been playing at for the last 3-4 years haven’t been splitting it equally either. The singer and guitarist (2 people) have each been getting £75 whilst myself and the drummer have been given £50 each. I’ve recently been picking up and dropping off the singer and his gear in my car too! The drummer and I play for 80% of the evening, we are really good musicians, backing any and every type of musician, doing songs we don’t always know whilst the other 2 open the jam and close the jam with 3 songs per set, drinking beer and smoking fags outside. They aren’t as strong as us musically either. Without sounding arrogant, they are lucky to have us in the house band. Am I wrong to be annoyed by this?! I enjoy the evening and thought of myself as friends with the other 2 but it now feels very sneaky. I’m naturally very fair and transparent as a person and believe in financially splitting things equally. I’m guessing this is not the case with all musicians! I don’t want to walk away but it sticks in my throat and feels like people are taking the P. What do you guys/gals think?

This. Just sell it and buy one in a colour you actually like (or relic white on top of the sunburst)

The Ashdown Studio range is definitely worth considering too. I have a Studio 210 combo with is great.
-
They are great little combos. Everything you need and without any useless frills.
-
Thanks Lozz. Was really surprised how great it sounded. Probably shouldn’t have been!

Used the Studio Stack at my jam night yesterday evening. Sounded fantastic through both cabs (and a SD studio compressor). Really impressive!
