  1. So I’ve recently been having a bit of an epiphany and after decades of only playing active five string basses, I’ve recently assembled and gigged my first passive five string and loved the experience. This got me thinking that I’ve never owned or gigged a four string passive P bass, and of course GAS set in and the search began. As one of my side hustles is a three gigs per year Black Sabbath three piece, and having failed to find a precision at a price I was prepared to pay, I advertised on here for a Lakland Skyline 44-64 and thanks to thebrig, this little lady has just been delivered safe and sound by Parcelfarce. She’s an ‘06 model with the jazz width neck with the single P pickup, finished in natural. I’ll update later when I’ve had a proper play but acoustically she sounds nice and bright with a great low action.
  2. And this helpful page from Andertons seems to confirm as v1 as my bass has a rosewood board
  3. If it helps clear this v1/v2 question I’ve checked back and I bought the bass from Thomann on 4th June 2018 for €444
  4. I’ve just popped my K&M stool up for sale in the Accessories section here for any of you DB cats who like to sit or perch whilst playing 😎
  5. K&M stool model number 14044. This is the version with the cloth seat. Bought for an acoustic project that no longer exists, never left the house and is now surplus to requirements. Collection from Killingworth, or postage at buyers expense. This is a quality stool with a good range of height adjustment suitable for upright players (I planned to use it with my EUB). Any questions, please ask!
  6. Need this gone people. So for this weekend only £95 including UK postage. Snap it up and have it in time for Easter - better than a chocolate egg!
  7. Need this gone so £250 +postage including flight case for this weekend only. Snap it up and have it in time for Easter - better than a chocolate egg
  8. Got something inbound so need this gone this weekend. So here’s a deal, £300 in original condition in old but serviceable flight case, or £350 including gig bag and metal knobs. Absolute bargain of the year but I need to placate the significant other.
  9. Price drop, £375 with gig bag and knobs, £325 in old but serviceable flight case but without knobs. Also, I forgot to mention that she’ll come with her original tort pickguard as well on either purchase option.
  10. At least he/she got all three pieces of bad luck out of the way in one go 🙄
  11. How’s about £275 including flight case?
  12. Just a thought, I do have an old but serviceable flight case that I could ship the bass in, in place of the gig bag.
  13. SWR SM900 for sale What many consider to be the ultimate bass amp and certainly the flagship of the SWR line, here we have my SM900 for sale. I’ve owned this amp for the last four years and have used her on pretty much every gig I’ve played including main stage at Stormin the Castle, and the O2 Academy in Newcastle. Swiss Army knife of tone, including bass, two switchable three band semi-parametric mids, treble and the SWR aural enhancer. This amp is a workhorse that’s been used but is still in good condition for her age. Known for running stupidly hot, I’ve modified mine by adding ventilation holes (pictured) in the top above the transformer, and adding a second external fan to force air into the amp housing. She now runs cooler than a cool thing. Currently racked in a 2U flight case modified to include a vent where the original fan exhausts from the amp. Only selling because if got other SWR amps and in truth I need the space. Price is £300 including flight case or £250 without. Collection from Killingworth preferred, as she’s a heavy beast and she’ll be expensive to post.
  14. Sire V7 bass for sale I bought this Sire V7 bass to keep in Holland when I worked out there, now I’m home she’s been relegated to fifth place in the bass line up and she’s too good for that. Finished in black she’s immaculate apart from one patch on the back where it looks like the finish has reacted to the rubber on the stand I kept her on in Holland. The finish is intact and not soft, but you can see the contact patch from the stand in one location. I’ve tried to photo this but it’s a bugger on a shiny black bass! I’ve ‘upgraded’ her to metal knobs from John East but she’ll come with the original plastic knobs and the original tort scratch plate. Great active five string bass and she’ll come in the Sire gig bag which was an extra purchase. Prefer collection only from Killingworth. Price £400, or £350 without the metal knobs and gig bag.
  15. Here she is on her debut gig. And without wishing to repeat myself, Wow what a fabulous piece of kit. I’m smitten 😍
  16. Up until quite recently, I’ve exclusively used active basses starting with my Ibanez Roadstar RS940, all the way to my trio of John East equipped Overwaters. But then I assembled a passive five string precision and I’m quite blown away with the difference. It’s hard to explain, and maybe it’s just that I normally don’t play P basses (I know 😞), but the sound feels more ‘open’. Anybody else experienced this or is it just me?
  17. Yes, it’s a very ‘musical’ eq pre-shape. Sat well between two guitars and acoustic drums.
  18. Wowzers! Just used this in anger for the first time today at rehearsal playing through an Ampeg 6x10. What can I say other than I’m blown away. Pre-shape engaged, EQ flat, passive five string Precision bass and this thing sounds and more importantly feels like a full valve amp. It has that ‘bounce’ and for those who are interested, it has enough heft to demolish walls. Whack on the doom control and it’s instant Geezer Butler. Can’t wait for tomorrows gig now 😎

    Todays Amp choices

This was me. I’d tried the ABM’s and the MAG’s in various rehearsal rooms and always found them to be a little dull or lifeless. Then I tried the Head of Doom and I’m a convert. Oh and spot on about the customer service - absolutely first class! Yes that was my point - by choice I meant choice of manufacturer rather than amplifier topology.
  20. …..it’s a Platypus? 😂
  21. This was me. Tried many Ashdown amps from the ABM’s to the Mag’s in rehearsal rooms and always found them to be a little dull or lifeless. Then I tried the Head of Doom and became a convert. And you’re spot on about the excellent customer service.
