  1. Got something inbound so need this gone this weekend. So here’s a deal, £300 in original condition in old but serviceable flight case, or £350 including gig bag and metal knobs. Absolute bargain of the year but I need to placate the significant other.
  2. Price drop, £375 with gig bag and knobs, £325 in old but serviceable flight case but without knobs. Also, I forgot to mention that she’ll come with her original tort pickguard as well on either purchase option.
  3. At least he/she got all three pieces of bad luck out of the way in one go 🙄
  4. How’s about £275 including flight case?
  5. 😬
  6. Just a thought, I do have an old but serviceable flight case that I could ship the bass in, in place of the gig bag.
  7. SWR SM900 for sale What many consider to be the ultimate bass amp and certainly the flagship of the SWR line, here we have my SM900 for sale. I’ve owned this amp for the last four years and have used her on pretty much every gig I’ve played including main stage at Stormin the Castle, and the O2 Academy in Newcastle. Swiss Army knife of tone, including bass, two switchable three band semi-parametric mids, treble and the SWR aural enhancer. This amp is a workhorse that’s been used but is still in good condition for her age. Known for running stupidly hot, I’ve modified mine by adding ventilation holes (pictured) in the top above the transformer, and adding a second external fan to force air into the amp housing. She now runs cooler than a cool thing. Currently racked in a 2U flight case modified to include a vent where the original fan exhausts from the amp. Only selling because if got other SWR amps and in truth I need the space. Price is £300 including flight case or £250 without. Collection from Killingworth preferred, as she’s a heavy beast and she’ll be expensive to post.
  8. Sire V7 bass for sale I bought this Sire V7 bass to keep in Holland when I worked out there, now I’m home she’s been relegated to fifth place in the bass line up and she’s too good for that. Finished in black she’s immaculate apart from one patch on the back where it looks like the finish has reacted to the rubber on the stand I kept her on in Holland. The finish is intact and not soft, but you can see the contact patch from the stand in one location. I’ve tried to photo this but it’s a bugger on a shiny black bass! I’ve ‘upgraded’ her to metal knobs from John East but she’ll come with the original plastic knobs and the original tort scratch plate. Great active five string bass and she’ll come in the Sire gig bag which was an extra purchase. Prefer collection only from Killingworth. Price £400, or £350 without the metal knobs and gig bag.
  9. Here she is on her debut gig. And without wishing to repeat myself, Wow what a fabulous piece of kit. I’m smitten 😍
  10. Up until quite recently, I’ve exclusively used active basses starting with my Ibanez Roadstar RS940, all the way to my trio of John East equipped Overwaters. But then I assembled a passive five string precision and I’m quite blown away with the difference. It’s hard to explain, and maybe it’s just that I normally don’t play P basses (I know 😞), but the sound feels more ‘open’. Anybody else experienced this or is it just me?
  11. Yes, it’s a very ‘musical’ eq pre-shape. Sat well between two guitars and acoustic drums.
  12. Wowzers! Just used this in anger for the first time today at rehearsal playing through an Ampeg 6x10. What can I say other than I’m blown away. Pre-shape engaged, EQ flat, passive five string Precision bass and this thing sounds and more importantly feels like a full valve amp. It has that ‘bounce’ and for those who are interested, it has enough heft to demolish walls. Whack on the doom control and it’s instant Geezer Butler. Can’t wait for tomorrows gig now 😎

    Todays Amp choices

This was me. I’d tried the ABM’s and the MAG’s in various rehearsal rooms and always found them to be a little dull or lifeless. Then I tried the Head of Doom and I’m a convert. Oh and spot on about the customer service - absolutely first class! Yes that was my point - by choice I meant choice of manufacturer rather than amplifier topology.
  14. …..it’s a Platypus? 😂
  15. This was me. Tried many Ashdown amps from the ABM’s to the Mag’s in rehearsal rooms and always found them to be a little dull or lifeless. Then I tried the Head of Doom and became a convert. And you’re spot on about the excellent customer service.

    Todays Amp choices

Without wishing to get into the whole 'heft' class A/B/C/D/E/F etc debate, I do feel like we have a much smaller range of options these days, or is that just the effect of my rose tinted glasses?
  17. Radial BigShot I/0 for sale in the accessories section here but might be better advertised here. Gives the option for two different inputs to your rig (active/passive basses, electric/acoustic, electric/EUB etc.) Possible trade for a bass wah pedal.
  18. You could always buy this from me, its the proverbial Swiss army knife for acoustic bass and has the really useful notch filter for those problematic feedback frequencies. Only selling as an old hand injury makes double bass or EUB playing too painful.
  19. Still available if anyone is interested.
  20. New amp day here at JPJ towers thanks to our very own ryancowell25. Having used nothing but SWR for the last 15 odd years (save for a brief flirtation with an Aguilar AG500) I decided to try something different as I’m being drawn more towards that lightly overdriven valve sound. I’ve posted before how despite wanting to, I could never get on with the Ashdown ABM range so this was a bit of a leap of faith. So far I’ve only been able to play this through a little TC 2x8 cab at low volume but it sounds mighty and sort of reminds me of someone but I can’t quite put my finger on who? 🤔😉😎 Thanks to Hermes, the amp has obviously had a knock in transit damaging the Subs control knob and thank the gods Ryan opted to ship in the Gator gig bag or who knows how much worse things could have been. Quick order fired off to Ashdown for a set of 5 replacement knobs so she should be looking at her sexiest best for her first public outing next weekend.
  21. I’ve just shielded a recent build with that slug tape and can confirm that the glue is indeed conductive enough (resistance test with multimeter) to not need to solder each join. Mind I did solder leads to each pickup cavity and feed those back to the control cavity shield before connecting that and the bridge earth to the ground on the output jack. Result is the quietest passive bass I’ve ever owned.
  22. I had a Fender Jazz V DLX a few years back and the active pre on that used to distort a little when the battery was getting low.
  23. For those of you who double on acoustic and electric, I have just posted my Radial BigShot I/O switcher pedal for sale in the accessories forum here
  24. For sale here we have my Radial BigShot I/O instrument switcher. I used to have this on my board when I doubled between EUB and electric bass, but with the EUB gone, its time to let this little beauty go too, Switch between two instrument inputs, with a trim pot on one input to allow you to match volume levels and a handy little bright switch, useful if you’re matching active and passive instruments. Separate tuner out with foot switchable mute. Runs from a 9v pedal supply but the 9v is only needed to run the status LED’s, its otherwise totally passive and wonderfully quiet - like most Radial stuff. Built like a tank in a metal enclosure with metal jack sockets. Comes in original box with box candy. Velcro on the bottom where its been on my board but comes with the original Radial stick-on rubber feet if you want this free standing. Price is £60 + postage.
