1. Nik, has just purchased my Schroeder cab. Excellent comms throughout, great guy to deal with, I can't recommend him highly enough. A credit to the forum, deal/trade/buy/sell with Nik without hesitation.
2. Surely it really depends on what you are trying to achieve? For example, our little (loud) pub rock 5 piece use two 15" subs and two 15"+horn tops for vocals and drums. Backline takes care of itself. I think we get a decent enough sound (I should, I do the mix) and having a separate outboard crossover helps me tailor the rig to the room. In truth, I'd like a bit more top/upper mid but budget dictates that we use what we've got. PA gear has advanced significantly in the last few years. Yes, at one time I would have insisted on a pair of 18" bins (2x18" if I could get away with it) but modern powered 15" bins will give you plenty of 'thump' in most scenarios. If your playing massive clubs every week then yes probably still 18" is the way to go, but down the dog and sproat its overkill. My own belief is that as the digital mixers become more feature rich and cheaper, more bands will be dumping the racks of outboard they currently use and doing it all in the desk, meaning that they can afford to go back to passive PA cabs and a small rack of lightweight Class D type power amps. A rig like Alex is suggesting will with an all-in-one box cabinet per side become a possibility in terms of portability and will probably do away with the need for separate bins and mid/tops. If you've ever used Mackies 1532's you'll know what I mean when I say you can still get a great FOH rock sound without the need to carry separate bass bins. If your buying today with a budget of between £3k - £5k then you'll be spoilt for choice. My preference would be for some of the powered RCF kit but that is because I'm looking at a particular application.

Show us your rig!

Well you lot have finally gotten to me and I've relented and downsized from my two Golly 4x10's (other luddites fear not, I'm keeping them for the bigger gigs) but this is the new lightweight portable single cab rig
4. Well there are some esteemed 'experts' on this here board with both Alex Claber of barefaced and Bill Fitzmaurice posting regularly. If your a PC user you can download WinISD for free and play around with different speakers, cabinet volumes, port sizes etc to your hearts content. It isn't difficult but remember that the cabinet volume refers to the internal volume of the cab calculated using the internal dimensions and not the external dimensions, so you need to make allowance for the material you are going to use, your chosen bracing and anything else that will protrude inside the cabinet (handles, crossovers, hf horns, wheels etc. I've 'designed' and built a few cabinets using WinISD and obtained very favourable results. I know the programme only simulates the performance of a given speaker in a given cabinet volume and doesn't consider speaker alignment, acoustic coupling etc etc but it really depends what you are trying to achieve. Both Alex and Bill produce 'neutral' cabinets that come as a bit of an aural surprise after using stock manufacturer branded boxes. But its horses for courses in that department. Its a bit like the lightweight versus old school debate - use your ears and choose what produces your sound and fits your budget.
5. Here's a shot of my 'new' small rig
6. West Moor, you've obviously gone up in the world :-)
7. Here we have my Schroeder 21012 for sale. Before going any further, a few things you need to know about this cab. I obtained this cabinet empty after a fellow basschatter received an exchange 'box' from Schroeder due to there being a small 'crack' in the bottom of the baffle. I have left this untouched and re-speakered (if that is a word) the cab with genuine Eminence Delta speakers (2 x Delta 10, 350w, 8 ohm, and 1 x Delta 12, 400w, 16 ohm) to give a combined 1100w at 8 ohm. The cab has the original Schroeder crossover and tweeter fitted and this has an attenuator on the back panel. This has been my 'small rig' cab for the last 3 years and has been gigged regularly, although it is in very good condition save for a few scratches to the plastic corner pieces. It is currently fitted with castors but can be supplied with the original rubber feet if you prefer. This is one of the original American series cabs that has the 12" driver mounted on the angled baffle. If you've never heard one of these, you won't believe the 'room filling' sound you get from such a small box. The cab is 600mm x 600mm x 405mm deep (23.5" x 23.5" x 16") and is an easy lift. I don't have an accurate weight for this but the old bathroom scales say its around 30kg. The cab is available from Killingworth, North Tyneside and that is about 7 miles north east of Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. Prefer collection or meet halfway within reason. This is for sale for as long as the cab I'm after to replace it with remains available locally. Any questions, please ask! 9. I'd play around with the limiter as the control is sort of counter intuitive being fully on when most other knobs would be off. Failing that, contact Phil Jones support as they are probably the quickest and most helpful support team I've ever come across (other manufacturers take note!).
10. Just received a bass body, scratchplate, neck, nut, string tree and tuners from Jez. All as described, well packaged and posted promptly. Trade with Jez with confidence - great bloke and a credit to the community.
11. Hmmm reminds me of something........
12. It really depends on what you are trying to achieve. It is possible, with a lot of patience, investigation, research and in no small part, skill, to make a bass that will rival the best output of the Ritters, Overwaters, Shukers et al and at this end of the scale, you will save a small fortune over the purchase price mainly because you will not 'cost' your own time (labour) in making the bass into the equation. The biggest challenge will always be finishing the bass as achieving a pro level finish with rattle cans is difficult if not damned near impossible. At the other end of the scale, you can buy all the parts you need ready finished and bolt together a respectable bass, but in truth it will be no better than a good Squier bass and probably cost you a lot more due to the manufacturers and distributers adding mark-up to each component rather than the bass as a whole. That said, I recently put together a 'road worn' fretless P bass project which has turned out to be a belter, at least as good as anything Fender have produced in the last 30 years, for a fraction of the Fender price simply by using secondhand components (body, neck etc) procured from this very forum. There is no feeling quite like gigging your own handiwork especially if it receives compliments from the audience. The more basses you build the better you become as you hone your craft.
13. Well it arrived this morning, and despite the irony, it was extremely well packaged (in a cardboard guitar box, that itself was inside another large cardboard shipping box with plenty of loose packing around it). Straight out of the box it was playable and in tune! If I wanted to, it would be a fairly simple job to pop the ABS shell off the soundboard and repair the shell before reaffixing. But that would be too simple........ The bass has a really nice neck of P bass proportions, and is quite loud for an acoustic, especially considering the damage to the bowl. Electronics all work (including the tuner) and so the winter project is a go go Watch out for a (re)build thread soon
14.
If you are cool to cash the guy if I paypal gift/bank transfer, and I can sort a courier, can work with that.
PM'd
15.
You actually bought it? Sorry if I've offended you. It makes sense if you're going to build something from it.
No offence taken, its intended as a donor for a project - expect photos to appear in the build section ;-)
16. Still for sale on Big Ginger Gits and on https://www.facebook.com/groups/musiciansmartne/ I advised the seller of this place but so far he doesn't appear to have taken the bait. If any basschatters are interested, I'm only 3 miles from this if you need an intermediary for collection/courier pickup. In his post on facebook he claims to have the original packaging so courier should be no problem.
17. I've been toying with ideas for a 'thinline' fretless electro/acoustic for a while now without taking the plunge and buying any wood. This will give me a chance to put those ideas to the test - who knows, this time next year I could be a millionaire (alternatively i may just have wasted £33 that would have been better spent on lottery tickets)
18. Absolutely gorgeous! I say it again, marrying the original series body shape with the progress headstock is pure genius - lovely lovely lovely bass - congrats Kees
19.
Bump (before adding posting option)
If you add a postage option, put me first in the queue please
20. The ONLY amp rig I'd possibly think of selling the SM1500 for - have a bump on me for one hell of a bass amp!
21. Tell her that you fancy a lad at work and would she mind if you explored that side of your sexuality. As her world collapses around her smile and say 'sorry love only kidding' and whilst she is in euphoric relief slip in "by the way I've bought a new bass" Then run........fast
22. Doctor Doctor by UFO In my defence it was the longer live version......... Anybody seen my coat around here?
