I take it I am low then?
I agree. The melody of the song (that's what it is is, yeah?) is lost trying to fit it round all the syncopation. It groves, but a bit w*anky for my liking and sounds a bit like a flashy demo on a posh keyboard.
Blimey, I actually thought that but did not want to say. Glad I am not the only one.

Derek Forbes' Vigier Passion on Ebay
Linus27 replied to darkandrew's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
This is an older one , and I suspect it's a graphite neck model , and been painted over (the refin he mentined) I've been watching this since it was on , and are suprised he's selling it . I PM'd Ped , who is the guru on all things Vigier , and he'll probably come on and tell me I'm wrong
Yeah painted in Dublin and he's going back to 4 string Precisions. -
Played the Bed Bar in Woking on Sunday night and what an amazing venue. Nice big area for the band to set up as well as a nice layout to the bar. The place also looks very cool as can be seen in the piccies. For me the gig was great as it was my first ever gig playing fretless which was always a dream for me. I also played really well as did the rest of the band and we went down really well. We will be back there again a few times during the rest of the year.

Derek Forbes' Vigier Passion on Ebay
Linus27 replied to darkandrew's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Is this his 5 string Vigier? If so he was telling me that he was thinking of selling it and do I know anyone that might be interested in buying it. He has gone back to playing Precisions and just bought a couple more, a fretless and a fretted if memory serves me well. -
Yes for sure but again, down to keeping an open mind, growing older, changing tastes etc. I started out with the whole U2, Inxs, Simple Minds, Radiohead, Manics thing playing driving but original rock type stuff. This morphed into heavier stuff with a more punk pop type direction with a lot of energy. After that it was more acoustic folky pop type of thing and I have finally reached acoustic pop with a motown, soul and 60's feel. I have gone from jumping around stage playing driving guitar punk pop with the audience moshing and stage diving to sitting down in an acoustic unplugged group with people listening to each song.

Question for those who know about flatwound strings
Linus27 replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
To date I've tried these flats; Sadowskys, Chromes, TI's, Roto's, Pyramid, Lakland JO, Picato, Status Hot wires, D'addario Nylons, Roto Trubass. The sadowsky strings are very good, and contrary to what I've read, mine mellowed considerably and have found a permanent place on my fretless. I actually bought another pack of sadowsky flats (which are now out of stock again) whilst over there with the intention of putting them on my decade...but I might try some Chromes on it first as they have that really dry unique sound that might work well with a decade. I was about to sell off a few of the sets I've been trying out..send me a PM if you fancy experimenting.
Thank you. What gauge are the Sadwoskys and I take it these are the Black Label Flatwounds? I am interested as the Roto's are too tight but let me have a proper play of them first to see if I like flats and if yes then i'll be in touch. Cheers. -
I'd say about the same. If you wasn't down the other end of the country I'd let you try my bass to see if they suited you (unless you want to pop up to Perth for a cuppa?).
Hehe thank you, a trip to Scotland would be wonderful, especially as I could stock up on some whisky that my wife keeps drinking but perhaps a little extreme to try some flats out -
Ive tried TIs (AWESOME) and EB Groups IIIs (worth every penny). The TIs are very flexible whereas the Group IIIs are more 'inbetween' medium tension,
Would you say the TI's are more flexible than rounds or about the same? -
Question for those who know about flatwound strings
Linus27 replied to Linus27's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys, really usefull. I have heard good things about sadwoskys flats so may give them a try. -
I bought my first set of flatwound strings over the weekend for my Precision after playing rounds for 23 years. My choice was limited but I ended up buying a set of Rotosounds RS77LD guage 45 - 105. First thing I noticed was how chunky the strings felt. I now think that this is because of the tension which is a lot tighter than my Elite rounds. So, for those in the know, are there any flats which have a much looser tension, closer to a set of rounds and if so, which ones?
I'm just bout to upload our latest track to our Facebook page which is in my sig. I had to do all the mixing myself so forgive me for it's amateurness. Personally I'd rather sound a mixture of Rage, Midget and Mad Capsule Markets, and I'd say my Writing style is similar to the bassists of all three. I just don't seem to be very consistent in how well I would play, and hearing how bad I played over the weekend put another downer ontop of the fact that I wasn't totally happy with how the sound engineer insisted we set up and the recorded sound from my rig was pretty naff. It was one of those days that just didn't go aswell as it could of.
Sorry to go a little off topic but do you mean the band Midget who were a three piece, around 10 years ago and did a song called camouflage? If so I know then and we did tons of gigs together. Great that they are being remembered if so.
Can't get down to Surrey this weekend, but wanted to wish you luck
Hey Gary, many thanks. Hope to see you at one in the future. Cheers.

I played one of these in Andertons today and oh my, it sounded awsome through the MarkBass rig set flat. The tone control worked really well giving deep thumpy bass up to bright twangy top end. It also felt and played really nice. I was very tempted. I also tried one of the Squire Jaguar specials, the one with the 4 dials and man was that utterly horrible. Sounded awful and felt horrid. Not for me.

Just a little reminder about tomorrow nights gig. Sunday 24th at the Bed Bar,2 Church Path, Woking, GU21 6EJ. We will be on around 9pm and off at around 10pm. Really hope to see some fellow basschat members there. Please come and say hi if you do make it.

Stingrays improve my playing...well they feel like they do.
Linus27 replied to Musicman20's topic in Bass Guitars
I am so struggling with my Stingray at the moment. Its a 2EQ and its either too bassy and boomy or too clanky. I just can't find a happy medium. I would really like to as I would like to use it in my band as something with a good voice and articulate like a Stingray can be would be perfect but I just can't get it right. Its like a Jazz and Precision on steroids, just too damn powerful. -
Apparently the Korg is true bypass which makes sense why the battery lasted so much longer when not switched on so if you use batteries it's probably the better buy.
Cool thanks for that. I think tomorrow I will take the Boss back and get a backup for my Korg.
-
That's common with most pedals, plugging the jack in completes the circuit and it starts drawing current. Boss pedals aren't true bypass so I assume draw more when not engaged that ones that are.
Ah ok, not sure I like that and much prefer the Korg.

I have noticed something a little odd on my brand new Boss TU-3 tuner and just want to ask you guys here if this is normal. My Korg Pitchblack I can have plugged in for weeks and weeks and the battery does not die. It is connected with a lead from the tuner out on the back of my amp into the input socket of the Korg. However, I have had the Boss TU-3 for a week now and I have gone through three batteries. It is connected up the same way as the Korg with a cable coming from the tuner out on the amp into the input of the pedal. I noticed that it says in the boss instructions that the input socket doubles as the power switch and power is turned on to the unit when the cable is plugged in. If that is the case, then to me that is really crap as you will eat batteries like mad and you can't have the pedal plugged in all the time. This is unless I am missing something here.

I am thinking about buying a Sunburst Precision because a. It will blend in better with the band rather than my white precision and b. I seem to be comfotable playing a precision and c. the tone seems to work best with this band. My only concern is I hate Sunburst
hi folks can anyone help me ,i have bought a warwick streamer lx jazzman whats the difference between a jazzman and the streamer .cheers
I am purely going from memory and semi guessing but is the Streamer Jazzman a Streamer body and the Jazzman a Corvette body?

I have the Korg Pitchblack and so far it has been excellent. I love the big bright display but I do feel that its a little fragile. I have just bought a Boss TU-3 and it is bullet proof but seems less user friendly and complicated compared to the Korg which is very simplistic. Saying that, once I get used to the TU-3, I am sure its a better tuner over the Korg.
