Also tried Silddx's fretless Warwick at a bass bash once as well, liked it a lot. I'm planning on defretting my spare Precision Special bass (well, now my second spare bass!!), since I have two basses with rosewood boards, both currently fretted. Looking for that sweet 'mwaaahhhh' from it once I swap over the LaBella flats from my Vintage 'Ray copy. That will get me into fretless territory without a large amount of expense. I'm eager to hear of people's experiences with fretless P-basses and what pickups they'd recommend Ta, Ian
Derek Forbes, Ex Simple Minds uses 1/4 Pounders in his fretless Precisions if that helps.
 2. I also love playing fretless. For me, this is when I enjoy playing bass the most.
 3.
Yeah that's a new ClassicRay, Nice ain't it?
And I've put my fretted neck back on and now I don't like it. Much prefer the Stingray as a fretless, or at least in my hands
 4.
Well, you wouldn't be where you are now without us all.
5.
Yep, nothing wrong with keeping people sweet, especially the ones you appreciate. Some do go on a bit though, thanking everyone they have come in to contact with over the last 30 years is a bit too much lol.
I'd thank you Dave in my next release. You are top of my list of people to be thank after Keira Knighley, the entire cast and crew of all 6 Star Wars films, everyone on Basschat, the entire female population of Sweden, Subaru, Fender, Musicman, Warwick, MarkBass, Genz Benz, my friends and family, anyone thats been to the Monaco GP including the King and his daughters, nieces and cousins, Guinness including past and present employees, all the ladies of riverdance including Michael Flatley, the population of Tulamore for making the finest Irish Whiskey, Finland and fellow rally fans around the world, Renault for making great racing cars, people who make nice lakes and mountains around the world so we can feel all warm and fuzzy when we visit them on our holidays and my sisters old cat called Tallula :)
 6.
I work in advertising as my day job so call me cynical, but... If I'm in a band high-profile enough to be on the main stage at Glastonbury, then if you want your logo visible during my performance then I want something in return. That's how advertising works. And it would extend to everything not just the musical equipment I was using. Plus there's nothing stopping me from using the gear with all the identifying marks removed. It also bugs me when a band's CD has a whole page of the booklet given over to the band thanking various people. AFAICS most of these people are simply doing their job and have already been paid in full. There's no need to give them any free advertising - because that's what it is.
I get the whole advertising gear on TV and stage thing but not so sure I am with you on the thanks in the CD booklet. You do build relationships with these people and sometimes its more than doing just their jobs. You are trying to get these people to work for you and hard for you and to have them on your side for next time.
 7.
Pretty sure that's who I was thinking of now you mention it. I retract the "reasonably" high profile
I can't remember why now but I think it was something to do with a falling out with Warwick or some protest with Fender. I could be wrong though
 8.
I seem to recall a reasonably high profile band a few years back (I can't remember who) covering the Fender logo because Fender had refused them an endorsement deal. Seems pretty pointless as protests go!
Didn;t Stuart Zender do the same to his Fender's?
 9. Beyonce's bass player was playing a couple of nice all white, including headstock Warwick Streamers.
 10.
Well I wouldn't be me if I didn't say that Musicman ClassicRay with the white pickup and pick guard that Janelle monae's bass player was using, Yum!
Yeah I was thinking that also. I saw the white pickups and thought, I wonder if thats a classic. Sounded so good, it has made me put my fretted neck back on mine and take it to rehearsal tomorrow.
 11. Reminded me of Miami Sound Machine. That's not a criticism but thats what it sounded like to me. I was waiting for Gloria to bounce on stage and start singing 1, 2, 3, 4, come on baby say you love me.
 12. Whilst looking for Stingray clips on Youtube, I came across this which I thought sounded really cool and different. Its the bit she does at 2m18s and sounds very flamenco. I just love it. Need to try and work out what she's doing now.
 13.
I didn't know the song either before looking for a good Stingray soundclip.
Listening to it again now. Just love it. Might have to watch her on Glasto tonight now
 14.

That is probably my favourite piece of music ever. Not listened to it in a while so thanks for posting.
 15.
Fredded, and a vid, but this is a pretty good example. With some sweet bass tone too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vH8uZ51RVRE
Ah perfect, even if it is fredded :) That bass would be stunning fretless. Is it wrong to admit to never hearing that Beyonce song but really liking it
 16.
Ha.....didn't read the fretless bit...... I can do a fretted version.
Fretted is good, just to get an idea on looks.
 17. Hey thank you. Not too keen on the stealth to be honest. More like this but a Stingray and not a Ray 34 and fretless.
 18. Does anyone have a photo of a black stringray, with matching black headstock, black pickguard and for the tricky bit, fretless? If so please post on here or send my way please. Thanks
 19. How long was the deliverly from ordering brand new?
 20.
Thanks for all your comments guys Not sure about a Jazz Michael. Tried a few and still not sure. I see from your Sig that you've got one though! Spill the beans
Yep, got a lovely MIA Fender Jazz in Olympic White. It sounds stunning. It was for this new band I am in but I made the mistake of taking a fretless along to one of the rehearsals and they have fallen in love with the fretless tone so it looks like I might be playing that now
 21. Lovely story Nick and thanks for sharing. So now you need a Jazz
 22.
Jake, will your forthcoming P have flats on it?
Damn, I've just come hear to ask that question and you beat me to it. Now, I'm going to have to think of a new question. It took me long enough to think of the last one :)
 23.
Fixed !!
24.
So many great replies and offers thanks guys, Linus and Lojo so very kind of you to offer... I'm going to get one, I'm just going to play many until one fits. I have some serious tools in the shape of the '77 Jazz and the Alembic, both record exceedingly well, and I spend at least half my working life on my 1880 German DB so I can bide my time Chris, that D'Angelo track is seriously grooving... And Barrie.. you were posting at the same time as me.... seriously... thanks.
No worries Jake, hope you find what you ar looking for and if you do want to borrow the P, the just drop me a PM. As you know, i'm only up the road.
 25. I love my Precision but to be honest, I prefer a Jazz. Just suits my playing more. However, as aleady said, a bass players arsenal is not complete without a precision. Jake, I have a 2008 I think MIA Fender Precision in Olympic White (as can be seen in my avatar) that I don't seem to be using at the moment. If you want to borrow it for a bit to see if a Precision is for you then you are more than welcome. I might need it back sometime in July or maybe August for some recording but you are welcome to give it a go for a bit. Just give me a shout.
