I just ordered a Warwick Corvette Standard and I have been told its going to take 2 - 4 weeks as its made to order. I guess its nice to know my instrument is being personally made for me rather than an off the shelf one. I imagine Fender are more off the shelf.

Is it a case of not settling in but actually the wood changing? Would the moisture content of wood naturally change over the years and thus changing the feel and sound the wood creates??

Well, today I ordered my passive Warwick Corvette Standard in Ash. I went for passive as I am not a big fan of active basses and if the passive is dull, then I always could upgrade to active at a later date. I am getting it brand new from Andertons and they price matched the Bass Centre at £598 which is a bloody good price. Its going to take 2 weeks according to Warwick in Germany but Andertons said this is more like 4 weeks as they are made to order. So I guess its quite nice that some clever German chap is crafting me my own bass. I hope he picks a nice piece of wood. Anyway, I'll keep you all updated on how it goes but I really am very excited.

I also prefer the single humbucker but only because I like tradition. I did try a Warwick Corvette the other week with two humbuckers and it sounded amazing and it got me thinking what the Stingray with two humbuckers would sound like. As for the jack socket, I can't stand it on the bottom of the bass like mine has. I much prefer the older style that had them next to the contols on the face plate. Underneath the body is a really annoying and stupid place to put it.

I feel i would use the MM pup soloed a lot more than i would the jazz pup on the DJ5.[/quote] Dave, if you keep your DJ5 or not, I think, if your going to head down the route of a 4 string, then I would get something more mainstream and traditional that a Sandberg. I would play if safe in case you do decide to get rid of the DJ5. Personally, if I was you, I would get either a Duck Dunn as you know you loved this and it ticks all the boxes, or a Fender Precision or a Stingray. All safe, all do exactly what they say on the tin and all easy to shift if you ever feel the need. If you got something a little more less mainstream like the Sandberg and ended up not liking the sound or feel of it, coupled with the DJ5 which does not sound to your liking, then you would be in a difficult position. Seriously, I would play it safe with a 4 string and get Duck Dunn, Fender Precison or a Stingray.

Dave, I think borrow or come and try either mine or OBBM's Stingray. You really need to spend some time with it as tonally they are very different and you need to have it for a bit to get used to it and see what you can do with it. If after that you are not happy, I think the only option is to go down the Duck Dunn route as you were happy with this bass once.

Got the green light on getting me a Warwick now. After thinking long and hard and reading all the posts here and at the Warwick forum, I am going for a Corvette Standard Passive in Ash. I was going to go for the passive with active electronics but I have since found out that when you select passive mode, you bypass all your tone controls which seems a bit naff. So, very excited but also pretty nervous in case I really don't like it when I get it

For me, a Jazz can cover finger, slap and pick the best as an all rounder. However, a Precision is better with a pick but weaker with fingers and slap. A Musicman is better with fingers and slap but weaker with a pick. A Warwick is better with fingers and slap but weaker with a pick. So a Jazz for overall in my book. Of course its all individual and in the hands of the player. I am sure there are many players out there that could prove me wrong, for example, make a Warwick sound amazing with a pick and a Precision sound amazing at slap.

They don’t seem to attract as much cash, but I personally think once you see a new band with a Stingray, the sales will go up Remember ‘Blur Song 2’?! To me, no instrument cuts through like a Ray. A Ray with a Markbass amp is stunning….they pair up incredibly well. I have some flats coming to try in my rosewood board Ray….which im really looking forward to. The way you feel about the Stingray is exactly the same as me. It was always my dream bass and I longed to own one oneday. That day came and I adored it but I failed to get the sound I wanted from it. Partly because of the top end clanky Stingray sound, partly because I had the Harke alluminium speakers which were also very bright and also down to my own lack of experience/skill/lazyness in getting a good tone. I plugged my 77 Precision in and instant perfect sound which made the Stingray redundant. However, to this day I never gave up on the Stingray as to me, it is the perfect bass and I now own a natural model which is in super mint condition and cost me £670. Not a single mark on her and for that price it is a bargain but alas, was the going rate. Infact, I saw some going for a lot less. I am getting closer to the tone I want from it and I adore player her. I'll never sell her either. I'm not really sure what the problem is with them these days. The price has seemed to rise again nearer to £800 which does seem to be more realistic for a mint condition second hand Stingray.

[/quote] Right, I gave that a go and I found that made it all a little to bassy and boomy and I lost some of the definition. This was at home so running at a louder volume live might work better.

Dave, my MM is a 3EQ from 2005 and sounds like a Musicman. Your welcome to try anytime. Might be intersting to compare against your Laky as I bet its a very different tone.

[/quote] Yeah, after Alex explaimed it to me, I have started to run mine with the mid dial full off or the bass boost up a little. It certainly fattens the sound out and takes away a lot of the clank. Tonight I will try what you do and see what results I get but I imagine its going to be an improvement.
