Hmmmm Ive had the same thoughts as you for a longgggg time. I would definitely keep your 2x12, as those Genz cabs are pretty damn fine. With a 1x15, no matter how 'small' and light, its still not as small as I wanted. Unless you go for the Schroeder 15+L. My Orange 1x15 is a fairly good size, but still for some types of gigs/home practice, its too much! The Aguilar DB and GS 1x12s are not light, but very easy to move. They weigh approx 45lbs max. Not light for a 1x12, but they pack a punch. I love the DB series cabs....much more to them than I ever expected. But, I still want a 1x12. Id definitely consider saving and going for Epifani or Bergantino. I think the Aguilars are more reasonably priced though.
The Aguilar GS 1x12 seems interesting and quite a good price. You say its heavy but I think its 37lbs and not 45lbs. The Epifani would be lush but expensive The Bareface Midget also seems interesting but not seen any pictures or reviews of it yet.
Sorry, but I don't understand why you would want to change a cab you really like just to be able to make 1 trip from the car instead of 2! If you get a 112 you'll be looking for another before you've done too many gigs anyway! I'd get a trolley for the 212.
Sorry, maybe I was not clear. I will be keeping the GB 212 for most gigs where I can use it. However some gig it would be handy to just take a 112, for example some London gigs etc or much smaller gigs. The 212 will not be going anywhere

I have a superb Genz Benz Shuttle 6 and Genz Benz NEO 212. I can't fault them but the cab still require two hands to carry it due to it being fairly tall. Its light and has casters but you can't get away with carrying it in one hand. So, for the smaller gigs, I am thinking about getting a 1x12 or 1x15 that is light, powerful (around 300W 8 ohms ) and can be carried with one hand. Idealy, I would like to be able to have my bass over my shoulder in gig bag, the shuttle 6 in the gig bag and the cab in one hand. Lightweight and portable basically. Price is also an issue. I would look at the Genz Benz NEO 112 but they are about £500 and I believe still fairly chunky compared to other 1x12 cabs. So, what are my options for a lightweight 1x12 or 1x15 that I can carry in one hand?

Bassist magazine/gigbags and some stands.

I would like the Fender gig bag if still available. I am also in Camberley so very close. -
would you use flats on this..in steel
I don't see why not.
While we're on the subject, can you just stick steel flats on an acoustic bass guitar? I wouldn't really want that bright bronzey guitar sound, but I don't know if regular bass strings work on an acoustic bass.
As far as I know, normal electric bass strings are fine.

Washburn AB10 is the only one I would have. Fretless also.
Chords in the verse are G, Em, B7, Em, C, Am, D, (B7) Yeah, you should probably avoid the D on the B7. At the moment you're playing B D E F#... to be honest, that E is pretty weak too. B D# A F# would work better (IMO)
Great stuff, thank you so much for your help and everyone elses help. You're all very cool

OK, I have found a version of the song done acoustically. You can't hear the bass so well but you can hear the acoustic guitar in the verse. At the moment, in the verse where I am doing the walking part, I am playing the following notes G, B, D, F#, E, B, G, E, B, D, E, F#, G, A, B, D, E, D, B, A, G, E, D, E. Its what I am playing over the B7 chord in the verse which is the problem. Also, the third verse which is the instrumental verse I am playing a much busier walking bass line which may have the odd wrong note in Please feel free to point out wrong notes. Sorry for the quality but its the best I can find and thanks for any help

Just spoken to the guitarist again and he says its a B7 and has apologised for the confusion. So should I then be playing B, D#, E, F#, G, A, B, D# ????
Hold on a minute. I don't want to sound patronising, and I certainly don't mean it as such, but... you don't mean B7 or Bm7 do you? The flat symbol in Bb7 refers to the B, not the 7. From the sequence of root notes you've posted, it looks like you're in the key of G, in which case Bm7 fits nicely -- it's chord III in G. If the chord's actually Bm7 (notes: B, D, F#, A), then your walking notes will fit OK. If it's B7 (notes: B, D#, F#, A), then it'll still sound OKish, but the flattened 3rd (D) in the bass might cause a few winces on a strong beat. I guess we'll find out when you post the recording. EDIT: Paul beat me to it while I was posting! Great minds...
To be honest, you could very well be right. The guitarist told me it was Bb7 but Bm7 makes more sense. What I am playing sounds ok but he said one of the notes sounds wrong but we could not work out what the note was, thus me asking here :) To be honest what I was playing sounds ok but he which makes me think its Bm7.
I think we're probably more confused now! Best bet: post up that rough recording.
Ok, will post the rough recording tonight
There's a pretty important distinction between B and Bb. If you post the chords (making sure you get the flats/sharps right) you'll have a better chance at getting some sensible suggestions.
Yeah, I just realised that after I posted. If I was to play just the root notes then they are, G, F#, E, B, E (plus one other chord at end but can't remember) Not sure if that helps
It depends where you're coming from and where you're going to. Are you just playing over a static Bb7 chord? or is it resolving to somewhere else? What's everyone else doing? What sort of music is it? The chord tones, particularly the 1, 3 and 5 (Bb, D, F) are going to serve you best in terms of outlining the harmony. You might want to try to play those on the strong beats (in 4/4 on the 1st and 3rd beats of the bar). On the weak beats you're going to want to play a note that lead you towards the next strong note. That depends on what you just played and what you're going to play...
The chords that preceed are Em I think and again Em after if that helps. Maybe I can post or send a rough copy of the song to make it all a bit clearer. 1st, 3rd and 5th (B, D, F) sound right and a good starting point.

I am doing a walking bass line over a B7 chord. At the moment I am playing B, D, E, F#, G, A, B, D as a scale going up the fretboard starting on the B on the A string and ending on the D on the G string. Are these notes correct or am I playing a wrong note somewhere?? Thanks for your help.
Hours and hours of one-finger-per-fret scales practice I would suggest!
Yep, have to agree with this. Remember to try and keep the hand flat and the thumb firmly placed at the back of the neck. I also find that if my bass is too low or angled up a bit, this can stop the hand remaining flat. Practise makes perfect as they say.

I have some things planned when I get to the stage of not being in a band or want to be in a band anymore. I plan to do the following, a. Spend a large percentage of time, focusing 100% on double bass. At least a year or two, to get to a standard I am happy with. The plan at the moment though is maybe in around 10 years time or wait until retirement as I just don't have the time right now to fully focus on it. b. Spend a large percentage of time playing fretless bass. I am actually doing it now a little bit and loving it. However, I would like to sit down with proper training material/instructions etc and focus on getting good at it rather than dabbling in it. c. Learn to read music. Not sure any of those interest you.
actually I found it Bowie At Beeb
Thats kind of it but I thought it was from a different source. If my memory is right, I think someone said it was released as an official video but I could be wrong. Thanks for looking though, its certainly the right show.
