1. Somebody a while back posted a link to David Bowie playing a small private gig at the BBC for some fans but I can't seem to find the link anywhere using search. There was some great bass playing on it, one song with Gail playing and then another song with a guy playing some amazing slap on a Musicman. Does anyone have this link?
 2.
Yes please! Will be interesting to have two different players through both StingRays and Jazzes, though you'll have the colouration of the Shuttle 6.0 Si, I think you and your Roscoe could be good because I know you're quite a one for a bright modern sound which will show up the differences in the highs between the single drivers, woofer+mid, and woofer+tweeter cabs. Alex
I am also a pick player of 23 years so I can do both with pick and fingers if you like.
 3. I have a Stingray 4 3EQ with rounds, Fender USA Jazz 75 Re-Issue with rounds and Squire Vintage Modifed Fretless Jazz with flats on if any of these are any good to you? I can run it flat out of my Shuttle 6. Let me know if you want any of this.
 4.
in the mean time Ill try to get some pics to you/on here, soz but Ill need some help from a mate to do that but Im on it! ATB W
No worries, if you need a hand just ask. I will do the same but if will have to be after the weekend as I am away. Thanks.
 5.
how about If I wait till you're up here anyway (xmas) and that way if either of us change our mind, nothing lost (preston as I say is really quite close) as you'd be up here anyway? Oh,no hard feelings if a 2 band crops up in the meantime BTW I really enjoyed some of "the fleas" stuff!
Happy to do that if that suits you. If you do want to swap earlier then I don't mind doing that either. Just drop me a PM. Really glad you like The Fleas stuff. They are just rough demos on the Myspace page but they give you an idea on what we are all about
 6. What I find really interesting is that you think this sounds better than your 2008 MIA Precision. Thats quite a statement and an interesting one too.
 7.
Why don't we put on a London basschat originals gig between us? I have a couple of friendly venues, and I'm sure others do too. Let's cheer these guys up!
My band would be up for this also. I know what you all mean about crap venues, promotors, pay to play etc. My originals band is finding it very hard to get gigs. However, its actually been easier to get gigs in London that out. The promotors out of London never get back to you. So far we are booked to play, The Fiddlers Elbow Bull and Gate Currently working on The Dublin Castle. It would be good to play some gigs with fellow basschatters though.
 8.
Strange that it can't be at your gaff it's at mine!!! I just popped out to the bank and there was ruddy great big box outside my porch which is waiting to be finished off and inside it a nice prezzie of a Geddy Lee!! I take it it hasn't turned up yet then?
Ah maybe my wife got it sent on as she knew it was not mine. It must had gone to you then. Its a great bass. You can keep it if you want
 9. Its really odd that. I got a knock on the door today and a delivery for a nice Geddy Lee bass. The delivery address was Essex and not even my name but I took it anyway. Lovely bass. I wonder who it was for
 10.
could be done in school holiday coming up I'll contact you tomorrow cos I REALLY gotta go now! ATB
No worries. Talk to you tomorrow.
 11.
Preston is nice and close, when are coming up there? its not really a case of "too soon" just has to be a weekend (busy this one though!)
Well, it was going to be around Xmas which is quite a few months away. The other option is meeting up one weekend half way if you are up for that.
 12.
Im in Rochdale nr oldham, tell you what, Ive got to go to work just now and wont be back till tomorrow but thats a good thinking period. we'd have to work out where to meet up and "try out" and that, trouble is I work some insane hours but allways get school holidays(next one 6 weeks away-can you/do you want to wait that long?) pm me or Ill check back on this thread tomorrow cheers! Witterth
Yep, in no hurry at all so no problem if you want to have a think about it. I may be up in Shropshire this weekend but if thats to soon, then around Xmas time, I plan to go to my sisters at some point and she lives in Preston. So no rush. Like I say, I did really want to try a 2EQ but will take a 3EQ. Have a think and let me know and we can go from there.
 13.
I have black stingray 3ry old and very mint condition ( out of case maybe twice ) brought back myself from america. dunno what you think? its 3band eq and I'd like to keep my musicman case. hard to know what to do... your's does look nice but then.. so does mine... where are you? Im "oop north" always liked natual finish ones...what to do...aghhh
No worries about keeping your case. I also have a Musicman case which I would like to keep. I am down south. Typical hey :) Where abouts oop north are you? Have a think about it and let me know. Definately interested.
 14. I have a beautiful natural 3EQ Musicman Stingray with maple neck from 2005. It is in mint condition and plays beautifully. However, I now own a Fender USA 75 Jazz in natural so I fancy changing the natural Stingray for a coloured one. I would also really like to try a 2EQ stingray if possible. So if anyone has a 2EQ Stingray in black or Teal with maple neck and would like to swap for a 3EQ natural Stingray with maple neck then give me a shout. I would consider 3EQ if no 2EQ's are available. I would also consider Pacific Burst or Cherry Burst if either of these are offered. Please note that my Stingray is in mint condition so I would like one of similar quality. Let me know what you have.
 15. Fender bassed basses for me. I love Precisions but I prefer the look and tone of the Jazz and normally lean towards one of them. The Musicman Stingray also is a favourite.
 16.
This is a really lovely bass - I only sold it as part of my drive to get my collection of basses down into single figures. I gave it a 9.5 because there is a single blemish, which I didn't point out to Michael. He contacted me a couple of weeks ago because after owning the bass for two months he still couldn't find it! I had it strung with Peacock Blue strings when Michael bought it. They may not be to everybody's taste, but they look (IMHO) just stunning on this bass. They also sound just as good as any other DR strings. The US-made Hipshots are far nicer than the Korean copies. As to reaching single figures ... erm ... I didn't. Got down to 10 basses for two weeks, but now back up to 12. Dang!
I really liked the DR Peacock Blue String. I used to use Elites for about 20 years but fell in love with the DR strings. So much so that I have since re-strung her with another set and will include your old set as a spare. They seem to have a really nice tension to them. I will be stringing my other basses with them in future although maybe not in the peacock blue colour. Not quite sure it would look as good on a natural bass
 17.
If all these Laklands DJ weren't in Lake Placid Blue, one would have been mine.
I could'nt decide on blue or black when I was looking. Black looks nice but I was worried it looked a bit to much death metal with a black scratchplate. I liked the blue but was a bit worried it was going to be too light and too much like the Fender baby blue but in the flesh its not. Its a deep strong blue so no worries.
 18.
Email sent.
Replied to sir
 19. I am selling my Lakland Darryl Jones in Lake Placid Blue. The bass is in mint condition and used to below to Happy Jack who rated the bass as near-perfect condition at 9.5. The bass has Lakland pups and has had the tuners upgraded from the Korean-licensed Hipshot tuners to the genuine US-made Hipshot ones, which are much nicer, and includes a D-Tuner. The Korean-licened hipshot tuners will be included in the sale. The bass is strung with a brand new set of DR Extra Life strings in Peacock Blue and comes with a used set also as spares. I will also throw in a gig bag. I bought this bass back in June from Happy Jack and paid £700 for it. I would like to get the same back for it so a firm £700 I am afraid. The bass does sound and play beautifully and I am genuinely sad to see her go. I am based in Camberley in Surrey and any trial is welcome. Happy to courier at buyers cost. Please feel free to email for more photos or any questions.
 20.
I just wish you hadnt posted both those pics next to each other like that!!, first change trousers, then sell liver!!
hahahaha sorry :)
 21.
Thanks for this review. I love the Lakland 5 String DJ, the neck especially. I did notice its a different Jazz tone to what Im used to, but something about that neck on the 5's is incredible. I am a Fender nut, but I really don't think their 5 string bass necks can compete, which is a shame I really want one of the USA 75 Reissue Jazz Basses, but I wish they were available in different colours. I already have 2 natural instruments (MM EB and a USA Telecaster Guitar) so now I want something different colour wise, which is the blue of the Lakland DJ Hmm...I just cant find another 5 string Jazz that suits me, the Sadowsky really wasnt my cup of tea.
Your welcome for the review. I have just been comparing both basses again and I am even more convinced by the Fender. The neck really does suit me better and so does the tone. I am also finding I am less accurate with the Lakland and have to work harder due to the thinner neck. So its time to sell the Lakland. Sad to see her go but its just not for me. Looks like its time to admit that Fender is the one of only bass for me. As for colour, I know what you mean. I have a natural Stingray and now a natural Jazz. I seem to be drawn to them. If I could, I would change the Stingray but not sure to what and the natural does look great. Maybe a black Stingray with maple neck would be nice.
 22.
Hah, chance'd be a fine thing!!!
Oh I wish. In fact, I really think this thread needs a picture of Sarah and I am sure you would agree
 23.
What's Big Mike going to say when he sees you're not in the store?!!!
HAHAHAHA thats ok, Morgan will make an excuse for me If you look at the other picture I posted, I am wearing my Chuck shirt and tie. So, Sarah and Casey will look after me, especially Sarah
 24. Just want to update this thread. I have owned a Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones for a good few months now and generally been very happy with it. The build quality is excellent. You can't fault it in anyway and it looks superb. It also sounds really nice. The neck is nice and thin and pretty flat and the bass hangs well. Its a great sounding and playing jazz bass. However, there has also been a few things that I have not been so happy about. Yes it sounds very nice, but the tone is also very deep. Very bass heavy and I have always struggled to get a bit of sparkle out of it. I even got a comment at my first gig with it saying it sounded really nice but it needs to cut through more and this was with me trying to cut through. The other issue with it is its a very rigid bass. I have an ESP Jazz bass which seems to flex and move with you as a player. It feels soft to play and moulds into you. The Lakland feels really stiff and rigid and does not seem to flex. I feel like I am attached to a pole. Its also very heavy at about 10lbs. I have just recently got an Fender American 75 Re-Issue jazz and it is a totally different bass to the Lakland. Sound wise it is excellent. Lots of attack, punch and sparkle. It still has the bottom end but a much more balanced sound compared to the lakland. Its also very light or much lighter than the Lakland. It has a very different shape neck and feel which seems to be more to my liking. It also feels flexible and softer to play and I felt at one with it from the word go. Fel wise, it reminds me very much of my 1977 Fender Precision which was my favourite bass ever. However, quality wise, its not a scratch on the Lakland. It looks rough and ready and nowhere near the quality of the Lakland. It really does look like a workhorse. So when it comes down to it, both basses are excellent but very different. Tonally and feel, the Fender just suits me better. I would not say the Fender is a better bass, not by a long shot. I would probably go as far as saying the Lakland is a better bass but it has some characteristics that just don't suit me. This is a real shame as I love the Lakland and its a top bass but it does not suit me and I may consider selling it. I never thought this would happen as I love the Lakland brand but I'm not sure I will play her. The Fender just feels right and suits me tonally.
