1.
Wow, i really thought you were like in your 20's, must have been your previous avvy, good work!
HAHAHA nah I just act like it sometimes :)
 2.
Its the angle between the nut and where the string meets the post of your tuners. If its to "shallow" (ie the string is wound up the post instead of down), then the nut doesn't "break" the string enough and your left with the string making a weird noise. Does that make sense?
Cool, yes makes sense thanks but my strings always wind downwards towards the bottom of the tuner.
 3.
I'd go with Skank and say break angle over the nut isn't sharp enough. Had the same thing myself. Makes a really weird noise.
Whats break angle Could you explain this please.
 4. I think I have the same problem with my DR Peacock Blue strings but on the A string. Its certainly loose in the nut and I am wondering if this is vibrating.
 5. One from last weekend. Found an excuse to use my Stingray. First time I have used it and not sure when I will get to use her again. Plus one from the week before using my Lakland Darryl Jones. Not sure when I will use that again either as I just bought a Fender 75 re-issue which feels amazing.
 6. The best bit is guess who's getting his Fender 75 RI??? Yep .... me. My dream bass finally :) Everyones happy, apart from my Darryl Jones who I guess is feeling a little threatened. Awaits Dave_Bass5 to fall off his chair at the shock of me buying a Fender Jazz and not playing my Lakland
 7.
Different basses on different albums... this isn't comprehensive, but to summarise, the early albums, up to Mother's Milk were mostly a Spector NS4, BSSM was mostly a Wal (with a 5-string Stingray on two tracks), One Hot Minute was mostly an Alembic Epic (apart from Aeroplane, which was obviously a Stingray), Californication & By The Way were pretty much all the Flea Bass, and Stadium Arcadium was the Flea Bass and a '62 Jazz with flats.
Thanks, I am quite surprised by that list, especially the Spector, Wal and Alembic. I wonder why he never used the Spector live.
 8.
Just as a matter of interest, in your avatar, Flea is using his Modulus Flea Bass (now known as the Funk Unlimited)... he hasn't used Stingrays for years, and rarely ever recorded with one.
Out of interest, what did Flea usually record with?
 9. For looks and to some degree to play, then a Musicman Stingray but the sound lets it down for me. As an overall, then some kind of Jazz, either my ESP 400 Series Jazz, my Lakland Darryl Jones Jazz, or fingers crossed soon to be Fender USA 75 Re-issue Jazz.
 10.
*slaps forehead* Of course! How could I forget them, probably my favourite 80s band. "Spirit of Eden", "The Colour of Spring" - brilliant albums. And their music has aged very well, especially compared to other artists from that period.
I adore Talk Talk. The Colour of Spring is one of my top 5 albums and one of the few albums I can listen through from start to finish and not want to skip a single song.
 11.
Hell yeah! They did a bunch of different re-releases, I think it was earlier this year. Brendan O'Brien had already remixed a track or two for the 'rearviewmirror' greatest hits thing, but the whole album got done. Sounds much more ballsy and like his stuff on Vs, I like it! See BigRedX's point about the production placing it in it's time though, it does have it's charm! I'm just a fan of his sound, I guess, I love the stuff he did with RATM and Incubus too.
Ok, thats really interesting. I vividly remember discussing with the record label about producers for our album and we came so close to flying over to Seatle to record with the guy who did Pearl Jam's first album. This was back in 1998 so I guess the original release. We were in discussions with him and had pretty much agreed to go ahead with it. The record company were really set on using this guy. However, we as a band really were not despite myself loveing grunge. Not only did we not want an american sound but the guitar sounded really thin and weedy. We were more Green Day than Pearl Jam. Plus the extra cost and hassle of flying to the US and getting all our gear over there. Really interesting that its now been beefed up. I am going to have to go and buy it. Is there any way of telling which is the re-mixed album over the original release???
 12.
+1 Imagine all the awesome songs that could be rescued. Brendan O'Brien did some cracking mixes of Pearl Jam's 'Ten' album for the reissue, took all those comedy drum sounds and massive guitar reverbs out and gave it a new set of balls, sounds great!!
Wow, hold ya horses. Are you telling me that the Ten album has been re-mixed and re-released?? Is there a big difference between the two? I love Ten but I did find some of the guitar very weedy and plinky plonky. As for TFT, awsome band. I love Mothers Talk, Woman In Chains, King Of Spain, Everybody Wants To Rule The World. Great great songs.
 13.
Yeah, isn't it the strangest thing! Lonely Planet Japan was also suspiciously taciturn about the fact that japanese girls are easyif you're from Europe. But since the guys there are usually somewhat fit be sure to do her without alerting him, since the humidity makes it a chore to run away. Yeah, many of the younger women there will think nothing of cuckolding their boyfriend to get some whiter meat on the side. Anders from Stockholm got burned really bad. He'd been in the game for a week and got to Kumiko's apartment when she told him they had to hurry before the boyfriend got back from work. Oh, about the band? I suspect I'm in, as I schlepped my rig there and it's not moved since and they keep informing me about the rehearsals. The writing's consistently good. It has much more variety than the two myspace clips even hint at, which is nice, but it does keep me on my tippytoes, as the grooves can go from bossa nova to picking straight eights at the drop of a hat. Perhaps too ambitious to sell, this material is? But it's a ton of fun so far! I was kidding up in that paragraph, they phoned me and let me know they'd want me in - they are great at communication so far. The guitarist and the vocalist are a cohabiting couple and also write most of the material. Let's hope no breakup drama ensues.
Great stuff, keep us posted on how it goes and good luck.
 14.
I reckon you'll just be playing to your mates, then. Looking at some of their previous gigs, it's hard to see much curation to get bands that work together (in order to build a crowd that stays to watch all the bands). Here's a typical line-up: XYM aka Da Yorkshire Rapper (hip hop artist with a Yorkshire flavour) Outcry (pop) Tranquilizers (fragmented pop with depth and energy) Tarantula (dub Reggae/Hardcore)
Thanks Dangerboy for your help. I think your right and we'll give it a miss.
 15.
You tell us the promoter and we'll tell you if it's a good idea. Lots of 'red flag' names to watch out for!
I'm not sure what the promotors name is as our guitarist was looking into the gigs but the nights is down as Club Fabulous‏. 16. Well I managed to get a pretty good sound out of the GB rig and Stingray. Its not perfect but good enough for me to do the gig. The settings I used in the end were, Tube Pre- Amp Set to around 10 O Clock Volume Pre Amp at 12 O Clock Low Set at 3 O Clock Mid Set at 10 O Clock Mid Freq at 12 O Clock High Set at 12 O Clock LF Boost On Mid Boost On HF Attack Off The Stingray settings set flat. It was quite a nice full punchy sound and the E and A string really kicked without the clank. The D and G string were not bad but a little thin but still useable. I tried to really boost the bottom end and cut the mid and take a lot of the clank out. It kind of worked. Overall, not bad and I managed to play the gig and sound pretty good. I also have a greater understanding on how the Stingray works and how to get more sounds out of my cab which I am really grateful for. It was also really great to play a gig with the Stingray. Something that Old Horse Murphy suggested was try stringing the Stingray with flats. This might take some of the clank out and make the bass sound fatter and boost the bottom end. Thanks again for all your help guys especially Alex for the technical advice.
 17. Gassing for the following, Fender USA 1975 Re-Issue Jazz (Like Molan's) Warwick Streamer Standard (Like Doc B's) I can't afford either but I can dream
 18.
I'm playing it right now - trying to keep up with Jimmy Johnson on James Taylor's live version of Up on the Roof - and failing miserably
Ok, not fair, I'm jealous. Going to bed now to sulk :)
 19.
I've just increased my offer on the blue '78 by $200. . .
Bugger I wonder how loud I need to play my music until I go totally deaf and can't hear you :):)
 20.
You know you want my one really
Must not listen to Molan, must not listen to Molan :):)
 21.
Cheers, I cant wait either. Im sitting here with the P5 going over some songs for tomorrow night and to be honest i cant think of any way the DJ5 will be better. I just love the P5 these days. Typical. The gig bag i have was given to me years ago. Its an angular one, very well padded and the strap goes the whole length of the bag so it sits lower than my head. Great for tubes and trains. Nice pic, what gig was this? any news on the Old st ones yet?
It will all be in the neck and the tone I bet you. I bet it will feel very different to the P5. The gig was The Boileroom in Guildford. Cracking gig apart from we could not hear ourselves on stage. It was like the onstage sound was mixed with the front of house sound so a bit mush and turning up just made it worse. The sound out front though was supposed to be great so I guess thats the important bit. No news on the Old Street gigs but it looks like we have a gig at The Fiddlers Elbow in October.
 22.
Just a quick update for now. Im picking my DJ5 up from the gallery tomorrow morning. I was very surprised when Alex said it comes with a Lakland gig bag. None of my other Skyline have. Ive seen these bags and they are nice but i doubt ill use it much as i prefer my Musicman gig bag but its a nice bonus. Ill be taking it to tomorrows gig (with no back up) then im off on holiday for a week. Ill try and post some pics if i can but if not ill have some of me and the bass in action at next sats gig. Ive managed to get a gig just down the road form where we are staying.
Nice one Dave. Can't wait to see it and I hope you have a great gig. Here's one of me from Wednesday's gig with my DJ4, By the way, I never knew Musicman made a gig bag. Will have to look for one of those.
