1.
Re the not hearing back from myspace messages, myspace have recently implemented a beta mail system which is giving a of of people grief. I can't send or reply to messages on there with my mac, and I know our drummer has had to reinstall IE to get it to work. If there is an alternative way of contacting them it might be worth trying that.
Thanks Musky, I never knew that. Will look at other options in contacting the promotors.
  2.
Nice one. Back to playing live at last eh? Ive only just seen this thread so not read it all yet but very pleased for you. I'll be working so cant make it but good luck.
Thanks Dave. Hopefully we will be playing in your neck of the woods soon.
  3. Thanks guys, thats a big help in understanding the situation. Having been out of the scene for 8 years and not really the one to book gigs, i was just wondering if I was doing something wrong. Early next year we plan on releasing a single and video which should get us a bit more exposure so that might help get us some gigs.
  4.
Great news. If you haven't got the gig it's usually no eye contact or chat and all over in 2 numbers. Have they any gigs lined up?
Just to say, first gigged booked. Wednesday 26th August at the Boileroom in Guildford. Should be a cracking night and hope to see some fellow basschatters there. Really excited as I get to play my new Lakland Darryl Jones and Genz Benz Shuttle 6 rig for the first time ever. If any basschatters do make it down, come and say hi.

    My/our 1st gig

The man in the background in the last picture clearly has a drinking problem. he has the whole bottle of wine to himself and looks to have a very firm grip on it Congrats on your first gig.
  6. Bit of a rant here. Trying to book up a bunch of gigs from September through till December. Only around 8 so not lots. Contacted lots of promotors who I know are looking for bands to play, are asking for bands on their webpage/myspace page to play or the venues direct who are asking for band. I contact them, gig them some background on the band, a link to our Myspace page but do any of them get back to you? Like hell they do. Total waste of time. Just finding it very hard to get gigs at the moment and very frustrating. Anyone else have problems with promotors/getting gigs?
  7. Ah a Finnish band. Only been once to watch the WRC but loved the place and the girls are yummy. Remember playing some game with some wooden posts called Molke I think. Great fun. Anyway, good luck and let us know how you get on.
  8. Happy Birthday Leo. What I find amazing is how you designed the guitar/bass yet never played. How could he know what angles, shapes, fret spacing, string spacing, neck widths to use. Amazing it ever got of the ground.
  9. Hey all, the new band I am in, The Fleas will be playing at The Boileroom in Guildford on the 26th August 2009. It should be a great night with some good music. We are on second around 9.15pm and entry is £5. Please come down and support us and say hi. I'll be the bass playing surprisingly enough Here is a link to our myspace page which has some out of date songs on, www.myspace.com/thefleasplease Tickets can also be bought here, http://www.wegottickets.com/event/54465 Let me if you need any other info and would be great to see some of you there.
  10. Been chatting to some friend who work in the music industry about the current state of affairs, and one thing they said to me was about paying for a promotion company to promote the band when releasing something. Using them to get radio airplay, TV airplay, media promotion etc etc. They said its about £1500 per month and if releasing an album then do 3 months promotion. In my old band we did this and get our songs plugged and played on XFM, Radio 1, in the press etc but the record company sorted all that out for us. Now I am in a new band and its 8 years down the line, we are thinking about doing this ourselves when we release our first couple of singles next year. Just wondering if anyone else has done this and any experience, tips advice etc.
  11. I have a Lakland Darryl Jones (ex Happy Jack) and a Duck Dunn and they are amazing basses. As somebody said to me, Lakland have improved on the original Fender design. The Darryl Jones is my main gigging bass and it is a wonderful, easy to play bass. Big big Lakland fan here and the customer service is amazing. Nothing wrong with Fender and in some ways, they have more of a vintage look with the re-issue stuff but in terms of a better bass then Lakland wins hands down.
  12. Pretty much GAS free at the moment. Bought bass amps and sold bass amps and now settled and very happy with my GB Shuttle 6 with GB NEO 212 cab. As for basses, more than happy with my Lakland Darryl Jones as my main bass and don't really wany any others. However, I would like to sell my Squire Vintage Fretless and buy a Fender CIJ or US Fretless at some point but no rush to do that. What I am after is a white pearl scratchplate for my Lakland Darryl Jones and an Artec Vintage Chorus pedal.
  13.
I have just bought a Shuttle 6 and I love it. I first played it through a borrowed Epifani 310 and it sounded amazing. I then bought the Genz Benz NEO 212 cab and this also sounds great. However, I feel the Epifani with the Shuttle 6 sounded better. Much crisper and precise sounding. However, I will add that I have not really had much chance to fiddle with the Shuttle 6 and NEO 212 together so in time, I may say this setup sounds better. Either way, the Shuttle 6 is awsome.
Just to say, put new strings on my bass tonight and all the crisp, precise sound is back and the Shuttle and cab sound amazing so a very happy bunny.
  14.
Is it me or are those bass strings ridiculously thin? See around 3:16.... I think it's cool bass playing, and cool drumming. The song is good but the performance is a bit boring to watch!
Yeah, some great bass playing. Never realised he was such a comtetant bass player. It's odd as he does not look like a bass player or shall I say, he looks uncomfortable playing bass despite being very good.
  15.
I really like Drama by yes, thought he and Geoff Downs did a cracking job.
My old band, Inter recorded our album in Geoff Downs studio in Wales which was also co-owned with John Payne from Asia. Geoff ended up playing some wicked Hammond on the album and John did some backing vocals on one of the track. Got to play around with all of Geoff's keyboards. So cool.
  16.
Michael, i was refering to your DJ4 as it has the Audere in it and my battery comment above was refering to the DJ5 IF i put a Audere in it. Sorry for the confusion.
Mine does not have the Audere in it or not that that I am aware of. Mine is 100% passive as far as I know.
  17.
Cheers. Can the bass be used if the battery dies? Thats always been my big worry with active basses. Not that ive had it happen.
Dave, the DJ is passive.
  18.
What are the stock Lakland pups like? As in Skyline DJ?
Mine sound lush in my DJ4. More than happy with it.
  19.
Yeah but i have a Fender not a Fender copy Of course, come this time next month ill be saying how much better Laklands are to Fenders.
Yeah but your Fender is like the original Beetle where Lakland have improved on the Fender design like Porsche did with the Beetle :):)
  20.
Very good. I'll bide my time......and then strike. EDIT: by the way, i had two that both worked :-)
HAHA I'll be ready for when you strike You may of HAD two but I HAVE one now, as well as a Darryl Jones :):)
  21.
Overcharging again eh
HAHAHA ok, forget the goats and its yours :)
When I do go back to 4 stings I expect I will buy a DD again. I dont really get on with 5 strings.
I fixed that quote for you
  22.
Hmm, maybe i should buy a Duck Dunn then :-)
I have one for sale, you can have for 4 goats, a can of special brew and a packet of space dust
  23.
Oi, thats bit off. what do you mean a "proper" bass player. Ive never been insulted in all my life (to my face anyway;-). Why do i need even 4 strings? I only use one pick. Am i supposed to pluck the thumb rest as well then
hehehehe well a proper car has four wheels, a proper violin has four strings and a proper bass has 4 strings. It's your destiny ...... my son. May the four be with you :)
  24.
Cheers guys (even Michael, thanks father ;-). I think ill have to sell the P5 at some point as it wont get used but for now i think under the bad is a good idea. Out of sight out of mind etc. Until the Mastercard bill comes in. Ive read so many good things about the DJ5 that im not bothered that its a Jazz. Nothing wrong with that of course but its what ive been trying to get away form for the past few years. Im sure im going to love the neck and thats the main reason. Nancy. When i first saw my P5 i wasnt impressed as i was hoping for a whiter white but i thought it played well And it does and for me that the important thing. If only i hadn't played a JO5 last month i would be more than happy to keep the P5. It will be nice to get back to Lakland though.
This is great news and you will love the Lakland. All we have to do now is fix the string problem and get you back to 4 and you'll be back to being a proper bass player soon again :)
  25.
Blah Blah Blah some rubbish about Fenders, white basses, too many strings etc etc Blah Blah Blah Cheers. Before you say anything Michael, yeah, i cracked a lot sooner than expected :-(
Your powers are weak old man, together with our Lakland's we can rule the whole of basschat. Now our Lakland's are fully operational, we can rule the forum together. Welcome to the dark side ...... my son :)
