1.
Im guessing the ABM 4x10 is about 79 pounds ish then? Hmm....thats still a lot lighter than a fair few non-neo 4x10s. My Orange is about 98lbs! hahahahah. Ampegs are roughly about that as well. Anyway, if you still want to go 4x10, id go for a Berg AE410.....but that only saves you about 17lbs and some bulk. I practice with my Orange 115 and thats much lighter and can easily handle a lot of power...but its still 60 ish lbs. Id maybe...maybe suggest looking at Schroeder.....1212L or 1212BMF. Ive not tried one but I hear they do a very good job.
Yeah, 79lbs or 36kg. Thats the thing, I could lift it ok and carry it ok and it did not feel any heavier than cabs I used to own around 10 - 12 years ago when I was out gigging lots, but I do suffer with a bad neck and shoulders and I am really suffering today. I think the age thing has caught up with me now and the neck and shoulders have had enough
 2.
Ah man im sure this will go. I hate it when you buy stuff then realise its not right or practical for you...(like my Ampeg which ive had to lose some money on but its going now). Good luck....perfect nick
I know, I love it, it sounds so warm and punchy and is just my ideal setup. I used to install TV's and lugging them around, up and down stairs has weakened my neck and shoulders. I used to be able to cope but now I am 10 years older, I think my days of lugging bass cabs around are over. It's not any heavier than my old Trace and Hartke cabs I used to own, I just think I am an old fart now
 3. Hi, I am reluctantly selling my Ashdown ABM 410T 4x10 Speaker Cab with Tweeter. I bought it brand new and it is only a few weels old. It has only left the house once which was last Saturday for band practise. The rest of the time it has been used at home. I run it with an Ashdown ABM EVO III head and together they sound amazing. I really don't want to sell it as this is my perfect bass sound, tight, full and punchy. It sounds amazing with my Lakland Darryl Jones, Duck Dunn and also my Stingray. However, the time has come to admit that I am not as young and fit as I used to be and my shoulder and neck problems are getting no better so I am going to go the lightweight route from now on. Technical details from Ashdown. Power Handling: 650W continuous, 900W programme Speaker Configuration: 4 x 10" + HF tweeter Frequency Response: 70Hz - 20kHz Impedance: 8 Ohms SPL: 103dB 1W @ 1m H x W x D (mm) 661 x 610 x 420 Weight: (kg) 36 As this is only a few weeks old, in mint condition and pretty much brand new, I would like £300 for it. I also have the original box although it is a little tatty as my son decided to pretend it's a tank. Also, due to its weight, collection would be better as a courier is going to cost a fair bit. I am based in Surrey and any inspection or trial is welcome. Please feel free to ask any questions or request more photos.
 4. What about the Nemesis range by Eden? They do a lightweight 4 x 10 which also seems a very good price. Anyone got any experience of them?
 5.
You mentioned Barefaced, but really, if I was to buy a cab nowadays that's what I'd get.
It is certainly on my list of ones to consider. That is for sure.
 6. I have an Ashdown ABM EVO amp which I run through an Ashdown ABM 4 x 10. It sounds superb. However, I used it for the first time ever in rehersals yesterday and today my back and shoulders are killing me. The carrying it in and out was a nightmare and I really struggled. Out of the back of the car, across the car park, twisting through two doors and through the rehersal room. This thing weights 36kg and I do suffer with a bad neck and shoulders but I have never had a problem before but nothing has ever weighed this much before. I was hard work. I think at my age now (39) and with the possibilty of gigs coming up, I think the time has come to go lightweight. I think I will keep my Ashdown ABM EVO head as the sound suits me and is superb but I need to change the cab. Idealy I would like a 4 x 10 or 2 x 12 and it has to be lightweight. However, I fancy something that is not going to colour the Ashdown amp to much. I know Alexclaber - barefaced bass stuff is supposed to be uncoloured and is on my list but just wondering if any others that would do the job. Markbass is also light but so far I get the impression that the cabs are not that great and do tend to be coloured. Its been a little frustrating as I have only had the cab a couple of weeks and it does sound amazing. I should had listened to my wife when she said it would be too heavy for me and to go for a lightweight cab but then I am male and stubborn. She is currently enjoying saying, "I told you so" :) All I need now is dave_bass5 to join in with the Ashdown comments So any recommendations would be really appreciated.
 7.
Pitch and put Wayne?
OMG!!!!!
 8. Really sorry they strung you along but it sounds like you are better off without them. Just don't give up ok. Bound to be a band out there wanting a great bass player. Took me 6 months to find my band.
 9.
Superb basses. I've had both a JO4 and a DJ4 and they were both faultess, outstanding instruments. That DJ needs a white pearl guard on it to finish it off IMO.
Yep, white pearloid scratchplate for the DJ4 is on the list
 10.
Well, back from audition. Being the first of three they auditioned tonight I cant tell you if I got the gig until tomorrow, but I certainly dont think I disgraced myself at all, kept in the pocket, didnt do anything silly and made sure that the pants remained on 'swing' for the whole time. Job well done. Damn they play Fire fast in the flesh though! Dont think they noticed any errors in their stuff, except the ending of one of the tracks which has a load of surprising stabs that I've not heard (not on the edited versions on myspace that I had to listen to) - that was a highly entertaining moment as we all discovered the limits of my telepathy. On the plus side the other edited track I nailed the ending on, to the point where no one mentioned it. Now that was a classy moment At this point I either get it or not, but either way I had a blast this evening. The horn section (what was there) were as tight in the flesh as they are on the recordings, very very cool indeed! They're a nice bunch, very well organised, if I get the chance I will be saying a definite yes. Fingers crossed! And thanks again for all the support and advice - it was much appreciated chaps... P.S Played through some god awful peavey rig. It was plop, the Roscoe still sounded amazing - caught the barri player eyeing up the headstock all evening trying to figure out what it was, left him guessing - he was also a bit nonplussed by the whole 3 finger RH technique that was going on, ace!!
Good stuff. Sound like you played as well as you could so if you don't get it, then its probably nothing to do with your playing. If its not to be then it was not right for you is the attitude I always take and something better will come along later.
 11.
The blue strings on the DJ really make it stand out.
Yeah, I did not even know you could get coloured string. This is Happy Jack's old bass and he introduced me to the strings. I am going to try and get some red ones for the Duck Dunn if thats possible
 12. Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones in Lake Placid Blue and Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn in Candy Apple Red. Two of the best basses I have ever owned.
 13.
Ah, i see where your coming from. Play the DJ through the Ashdown and i wont get all excited about it. ;-).
HAHAHA good come back
 14.
That would be the nail in the coffin LOL.
You can also play in through my Ashdown and see what your missing and then sell your over priced and over hyped Mark Bass stuff
 15.
Ah right, thought i hadn't seen it for sale. Glad its still working. Yes, those two Lakland's make a very nice pair. Im starting to feel like i need a change because of seeing your DJ so please dont post a pic of the two together. I cant afford it LOL.
HAHA will do tonight for you and don't worry about not affording, I could not either As always, your very welcome to come and try the DJ at any point.
 16.
Blimey, what happened to the DD?
Duck Dunn is still going strong, it just does not suit the band I am in. I needed a Jazz tone and its perfect for this band. The Duck Dunn will be played at a couple of gig in August and I can't wait. So in my lounge I have a beautiful vibrant red Duck Dunn and an uber cool Lake Placid Blue Darryl Jones. They both look so cool next to each other.
 17. Up to date one of me with my brand new Lakland Darryl Jones which I bought on Saturday from Happy Jack and is the best bass ever.
 18.
Just bought a sweet MIM 70's Jazz from Linus27. Bass is exactly as he described it. A bomb could have went off in the delivery van, it wouldn't of damaged the bass it was packed so securely. If i had a question it was usually answered within a few hours. My first purchase thru basschat, and it was perfect. Cheers Linus27
Thanks Boab, only just seen this thread. Had no idea it existed so thanks. Great dealing with you also and really pleased you are happy with you new bass.
 19.
Here is one from last saturdays' gig in the middle of Watford high street.
Thats a very good photo actually.
 20.
Going back to the original thread, I use a fishing trolley I got from Argos. If I don't use that, my drummer carries it out to the car (seriously). He's soooooo keen. P
As in this?? 21.
After doing some more research, I have found out that it is infact, the weight of the magnets in the speakers that are responsible for the weight. What I would suggest is that you remove the weight of these magnets from the cab by removing the speakers. That should make the cab more manageable. That and a lick of white paint... ...and you should be in business! ROCK THE HOUSE DOWN!
Thats just crazy. Why put magnets in a speaker cab? Don't they know thats just going to make it heavier. Good plan, I'm just going to take the speakers out, chuck them in the bin, paint the cab white and jobs a carrot on the end of a fishing rod.
 22.
I would suspect the cable if the head is silent until it's plugged in. How is the hiss with no cable, and the valve drive + volume at full?
With the valve dial on full and the input and output on full with no cable attached it is silent. With a cable plugged in, the valve, input and output set at 9pm, you can hear a hissing sound. If I turn the valve to full, or increase the treble dial, the hissing gets louder. I have tried different cables and there is no difference in the hissing sound
 23. I think its conclusive that unless i can train the Squirrels in the garden, the best bet is going to be a trolly.
 24.
I have a team of 43 midget Ghurkali warriors for the cab and 15 tame trained shrews for the amp..... I carry my bass and leads bag myself though (cant find the staff)
I have an Ashdown head also so 15 just won't be enough. I wonder if I can train some squirrels to do the lot
 25.
No. It will "colour" the sound.
HAHAHAHA good point
