1. Does anyone know what the difference is between a standard jack socket and the muting version thats available on Dave's website?
 2.
+1 with thinking the "real bassists only use their fingers". Re switching. On tunes where I use a plectrum (hey, lets use the "proper" English ;-), I pop it into my mouth. Dunno why, just find it easier, more handy and cheaper than lugging it away then having to pick one from the top of an amp or from the mic stand. Does have it's downside. Remember almost swallowing one during a particularly energetic "Beethoven" ending to a set once. LOL T
I wedge mine between the A or D string on the bridge where the string sits on the saddle.
 3.
If you don't recognise the advantages of both, you don't know your instrument.
Very good quote indeed.
 4. I don't get the people who say real bass players don't use picks or no good bass player uses a pick. To me thats just narrow minded. It's just a different style, the same as slap is and finger playing. Some songs sound better with a pick and the style works better with some songs. Also, a lot of people can't play effectivly with a pick. There is a skill as much as playing finger style or slap. Saying that, I have played with a pick for 20 years and for the last year, been learning to play with my fingers. Not because playing with a pick is wrong but to just re-learn to play bass again with a different style and a different approach. If you play one style for so long, you tend to fall into the same routine, pattern, approaches. Changing playing style has made me open up to new bass lines and patterns.
 5.
Christina Aguilera: Candyman (Another Stagg number. Crap song though which I'm going to try and persuade the band to drop)
I have this one down to learn on the Stagg also.
 6.
I've been reading the wiki and i have a question to put to people. I have a 350 watt 8 Ohm cab (Aguilar DB210) which i use with my Orange AD200 valve head (200 watts. I never have to turn the volume past half way). I want to get a cheaper SS back up and i have my eye on MAGs. Would i be crazy getting the Mag 600 (575w) and using it with my cab? At 8 ohms it would be drawing about half the power and i doubt i'd have the volume full up. Or, would it be more sensible opting for the Mag 300 (307w), which as mentioned would be pushing 180w? But i'm probably more likely to be pushing it harder. Linus, do you find your current set up loud enough?
Tee, I really don't know as I have only used it at home and not in a live senario. However, I do suspect it will not be loud enough thus the reason to buy the 210 so I can get more out of my amp.
 7. Just a quick question about my amp and the Ohms ratings. I have an Ashdown MAG 300H EVO II Head with a speaker outputs minimum impedance 4 Ohms. I am running it through an Ashdown MAG 115 Deep Cabinet (Evo II) which is rated at 8 Ohms with a power handling of 250 watts. So am I correct in thinking that roughly, I am getting about 180W out of the available 307W as I am running it at 8 Ohms? If so, if I also add an Ashdown MAG 210T Deep Cabinet (Evo II) rated at 8 Ohms with a power handling of 200 watts, would this setup then convert to 4 Ohms and I would get the full 307W out of the Ashdown MAG 300H EVO II Head. Thanks in advance.
 8.
Hang on, how old are you? I'm only 16, and I got the Stingray joke! "ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR!" Back on topic, I still think black looks better for a natural body, however, the tort does look nice!
Oh ok, sorry. I could not stand anything like Thunderbirds, Stingray, Jo 90 etc. I don't think I have ever seen a single Stingray show. I hated all puppets. I was more of a cartoon fan like Charlie Brown, thus why my nickname is Linus
 9. I imagine this question is going to get lots of different answers. My questions would be why do you want to teach? Is it because you think you have something to offer, or is it for money or do have a desire to help others? Also, what is it you can offer somebody? Do you know enough to be able to teach somebody for more than say 3 lessons? Plus, to what standard and what styles? Maybe see if you can put some course work together covering different levels and see if you have enough material for say the total beginner or for somebody who wants to play reggea, blues and jazz. I think that would be your starting point. If you dry up of things to teach, then your going to run into trouble. Also, you need to know what you can or want to teach. For example, if a pupil said they want to learn to read music, you might not be able to do this. Not sure if thats going to help or not but just my initials thoughts.
 10.
My old one..
I really like that. Anyone know where I can buy Stingray scratchplates from?
 11.
stingray pic wanted....ok... or
HAHA that last one is so cool. I want I want. Where is it from?
 12.
The latter mate. Not final yet but think it would look pretty cool. Cheers]ped
Cool, glad you mean that style. I have a couple like that anyway so with the bass logo on it will look super cool.
 13.
OK dudes, black with orange print white ribbed with black with black print, long sleeve black with grey sleeves and orange print caps/beanies ....will all be available soon. I will just set up a poll so people can pre-order items when I am sure of what I will buy. Cheers ped
What do you mean by long sleeve black with grey sleeves and orange print? Is that like a baseball style t-shirt so all the sleeves are grey or do you mean the style where it looks like a long sleeve grey t-shirt is being worn under a black short sleeve t-shirt?
 14. Does anyone have a picture of a natural Stingray with maple neck and white scratchplate? Mine has a black scratchplate and I was wondering what it would look like with a white one. Google is not really coming up with any results. Thanks in advance.
 15. Just interested in what make of string people are using including guage. I just fitted a set of Elite Stadiums 45 - 105's to my new Stingray and it sounds stunning. I have been using these strings for about 20 years but I hardly ever see them mentioned here. Do people not rate them?
 16. I would love a black one with orange print. That would look stunning. Put me down for one when you do them. Also, any chance of long sleeve as I prefer long sleeve.
 17.
Cheers for that Rich..... I think thats what put me off the stagg.... Those body rests seemed to be sticking out awkwardly.... I tried to push them in further but with no joy.... Was the only one in the shop too... may re-visit it again next week....
You don't have to use the body rests. I don't use them on mine.
 18.
Yep that was Richies shop, it use to be a great meeting place and he stocked some cracking tunes along with sponsering many a DJ and band. Sadly the shop although veery proftitable fell foul of the landlords (pearl assurance) who hiked the rates so high he couldnt afford it . Happy memories though
Thats a shame. I bought some gems in that shop. Prices were brilliant also.
 19.
Hi, How long ago was that. It sounds like my mates shop that sadly closed some years ago (applestump records).
Around 1999 so a while back. The shop was pretty much in the centre, near the main square. It might had been on one of the upstairs bit. If I remember correctly, if you walk through the alley bit with WH Smiths on your right and Dixons on the corner on your left and you head towards the main square bit which is not covered. I think the shop was over on the left up the steps. This is about 10 years ago so its a bit blurry. I remember a really big MVC store there also.
 20. As you have a Stingray already then go for the Jazz.
 21.
Yes its better in nearly everyway. The older ray has a flat battery in it and still sounded better in my ears, tommorow i will playing it with a new battery. The only way it might not be better is the looks (My current one is a lovely black sparkle with matching headstock.) And the piezo pickup (Which although useless in a band situation is pretty awesome alone) The problem is. A modern ray can cost as little as 550-600, Whereas this is more then three times the amount. Is the price of near perfection worth it -Rob.
It sounds like your not overly happy with your existing Ray. So why not sell that and buy the vintage one and the Vigier.
 22. Welcome to basschat. Spent a few months recording our album at Loco studios which is between Caerleon and Usk. Used to take day trips out to Cwmbrian to go CD shopping in a little second hand CD shop. No idea if its still there. Used to spend most nights in the White Hart Pub in Llangybi having dinner. Loved the area and miss it lots. Keep meaning to pop back someday.
 23.
I actually came across this video and then saw the comments from other BCers. It's very good. I have a tab for this somewhere. Must dig it out.
Cool, thank you.
 24.
What ! I didn't realise it was actually 1/2 size - can you buy strings that short ?
Thats actually a very good question. I have seen half size padded gig bags but not strings.
 25.
Am still trying to polish Talk Talks' its my life! matt
Here you go. This is the last one I learn't to play. Sorry I don't smile much in the video but there is a story behind that. For the last 20 years I have only ever played with a plectrum. I gave up bass for around 5 years and when I started up again at the end of 2007, I decided to learn to use my fingers so this is my first ever complete song I have played using fingers. So basically I am concentrating lots. Oh, plus I am playing on a fretless which is also my first song on a fretless. If you want any tips on the song then just ask.
