In terms of power it won't be an improvement - in terms of sound there probably isn't much change either since it has similar functionality to the MAG (bar the parametric EQ). Thus the only major thing it can offer you that's an improvement is portability.
OK, fair enough, thank you for your help. No real point in me getting one to be honest. It does look bloody nice though. I may still get one at a later date as a backup if I ever need one.
If size/weight aren't an issue for you i'd stick with the MAG .
Why do you say that? Just interested in your reasons why.
Since when has Indie Been fast or fun? have you heard Radiohead? or The Verve? I nearly slit my wrists thinking about them. I should have added with an edge, Indie always sounds by-numbers to me.
I'm thinking more this for Indie than Radiohead and The Verve.
I think of Punk as being fast fun music with a social conscience on independent labels.
That also describes Indie music down to a T :)
Manics not punk? I'm no expert but in the early days they looked a little punk like.....didn't they? Punk Rock? So what's the real "punk" cos I've no idea..... punk to me is Sex Pistols and that's it, that's the only punk band I think I'm aware of. What exactly qualifies for punk?
This is some of the point. Original 70's punk was not only about music, it was more about fashion and attitude. Malcolm McLaren loved this and why fashion had such a strong influence on the whole scene. He was also the driving force behind the Sex pistols and the whole image. American punk was more of a backlash from rock which in the 70's had become very boring and soft. Nowadays, if somebody is a punk they can be into anything. From the Sex Pistols, to Green Day, to the Clash, to Paramore, to The Damned, to Hendrix. There are so many different layers that anything goes. I guess it depends on what generation you are from.
i agree, im a little confused by what linus said. i think he meant that although his band was labelled punk, those bands were similar to what they played yet they arent punk bands. am i right linus?
Yes, sort of right. We were never just labelled punk, it was guitar punk pop or even punk rock which is probably a more accurate description. Bands like Ash and early Manics played fast catchy, noisy guitar music. If this was punk rock pop or not then I don't know but our music was similar to this and we were classed as guitar punk pop. Thats all I am saying in response to LWTAIT's point about punk these days is different to what punk was in the 70's or 80's. Just to clarify, I do not think Ash or Early Manics is punk.
Indie? Ash, Feeder and the Manics are not Punk bands.
I never said they were.
yeah, but punk these days is completely different, more of a style of music than an attitude. its also a different thing entirely, punk back in the 70s and 80s was an attitude more than a style of music, you had the clash playing reggae, you had ian dury playing slightly jazzy sounding songs, then you had the sex pistols and the ramones playing fast, power chord based songs. they all had that rebellious attitude, but also played very different music. the stranglers had a keyboard player, can you imagine the sex pistols with a keyboard player? punk these days is more about the music. i see punk as music with -usually fast tempo -mostly power chords -playing quavers -3 or 4 chords in each section (chorus, verse etc.) theyre not all the characteristics, but for instance if ian dury and the blockheads, or even the clash, came out these days most of their songs wouldnt be classed as punk. however, things like ramones and sex pistols, probably would, because they have the characteristics of punk music.
Yeah this is so very true. My old band was classed as catchy guitar based punk pop. What that was really saying was the songs were catching so thats the catchy and pop label. Played like a band on guitars as apposed to keyboards so thats the guitar link. Had a fast energetic noisy up for it sound and attitude so thats the punk label. Similar bands to us were Ash, Feeder, Early Manics. So I can see the connection to punk pop and not really sure what else you could class it as. Pop, well no as thats Girls Aloud. Guitar pop, well no as thats Travis, Semisonic, Blur, The Smiths. Rock, well no thats Bon Jovi, U2, Queen. Metal, no thats anything like Metalica, GnR. Its all very confusing especially when you try and add Indie bands into the mix.
I have loved punk for over 30 years and that bass solo, however brilliant it is, does not strike me as very "punky". Sorry. The worlds Greatest punk bassist was Stuart Morrow from New Model Army. Any fool know that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkTFo-AZysQ
I'm glad you said that as I thought I was the only one here who also thought that the bass playing in the clip was not very punk. I thought the whole point of punk was that you could not really play very well but just got up and had a go. In fact, I thought punk was more about fashion and attitude and less about the music.

Nice review. I am looking at one of these to replace my MAG 300H. Not sure if this LG would be better or my MAG 300H would be better.

I would love to replace Adam Clayton in U2, especially if we are talking about earlier stuff like the War/Unfogrttable Fire/Joshua Tree era. Replacing Derek Forbes in Simple Minds around the New Gold Dream/Sparkle In The Rain era would also be amazing. If forming a band, then probably, Bass - Me Drums - Either Stuart Copeland from the Police or Larry Mullen Jr from U2 Guitar - Slash from GnR Vocals - Layne Staley from Alice In Chains I think that would be an interesting mix

I have never changed my battery either. I have had about 5 lessons, lasting about 2 hours each with the Stagg plugged in for all of it. Plus, playing at home which would amount to many hours. Maybe 20 hours in total. Maybe a little less or maybe a lot more and never changed the battery yet.
Correct, but as Merton has already pointed out it all depends on how far up you wind the volume control. You have control of the power control. Just because your Elise will do 100+, it doesn't mean you go everywhere at max power and max speed. Amps are no different.
Sorry, I don't understand that last bit about not going max power everywhere. Am I doing it wrong, I thought the the rule was to drive like it stole it with the arse hanging out Seriously, thanks for the help. I might get me an LG350 then as my main and use the MAG300H head as the backup. If I need more power later on which I guess I wont, then I will review the whole thing then. Thanks again.
I take it that both your cabs are 8-ohms. I've not had the chance to gig the LG1000 yet but will on Feb 5th at the Lion Brewery Jam in Ash where I will use it with two 8-ohm 1x12s. That should show up how it handles 2 x 8-ohm cabs instead of 2 x 4-ohm. I estimate the LG1000 should put out about 350-375 watts into 8-ohms. As far as your cabs go you would have lots of headroom but always with the risk of overdriving. The LG350 with 350-watts into 4-ohms would be a better match to your cabs.
So your saying that as both my cabs are 8 Ohms, if I ran them through the LG1000, I could use either one of the two 500 watt amps running at 4 OHMS getting the full 500 watts (maybe to much for my cabs) or both 500 watts amps at 8ohms getting about 350-375 watts. However, if I used the LG350 with my two 8 ohms cabs, they would run at 4 ohms giving me the full 350 watts from the LG350. Have I got that right??

I've got an Ashdown MAG115 1x15 Deep Speaker Cab which has a power handling of 250 watts. I will be getting an Ashdown MAG210T 2 x 10 Deep Speaker Cab which has a power handling of 200 watts to go with it. Will the LG1000 be too powerful for these two cabs? Just wondering if its worth getting a LG350 as a spare head for my two cabs or get the LG1000 as my main head. No point getting the LG1000 if its to powerful for my cabs.

Just learnt to play this, Phil Collins - Easy Lover on my new yummy Musicman Stingray. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gfnXsXTOBs0&...re=channel_page Not sure to either learn Santana - Smooth (Ft. Rob Thomas), The Clash - Rock The Casbah or something completely different.
And then went to to place an Esprit S3 and an Esprit Turbo in Bond films.
... and the best I can think off regarding an Elise is it has been used by Girls Aloud in one of their videos. Not sure if thats good or bad :)

I am thinking about changing my Elise for a Caterham someday as I prefer the front engine rear wheel drive config over the mid engine rear wheel drive of the Elise. Still, its more of a maybe as I would so miss my Elise. I want both is what I am trying to say.
I suppose you'd call it Rock covers - Thin Lizzy, G 'N' R, Dire Straits, Bon Jovi, Clapton, Chuck Berry, Quo, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Bryan Adams - all the usual suapects. Three of us are retired and the average age is 57.5, but that doesn't deter us.
Dad rock
