Floyd Pepper Thanks for the info, might get me one of them stands.

I had no idea John Entwistle was dead. That one passed right over me. Amazing bass playing. Thanks for posting.
My bad, yea thats the one. The one I played was black like neilb's though.
OK cool. Thanks you. I was getting very confused.

I am trying to find a Musicman between £500 and £600. I have been told that a few have been grabbed for these prices, even one for £499. Still, I am struggling to find one at this price and they all seem to be selling at around £680 to £800. So not sure if prices are dropping that much just yet, I think you just need to be lucky at the moment.
I'm in love with the 75RI also. I've messed about quite a bit with different jazzers in shops and actually really fancy a Marcus Miller version. They are MIJ, but each one I have played is faultless. I've had a Jap jazz (62RI) which I bought from Japan which was my first intro to Jap Fenders and in my opinion they are great.
Do you mean the American 75RI or do you mean the same bass that joegarcia is talking about which he says is a MIM 75 RI??????? If you mean the MIM version then which bass is this? The same as i posted in my link or different?
Yea I played a MIM 75 RI the other day and it was lush. Much better than the US one they had in IMO. never bought a new bass before as I always prefer the feel of vintage instruments but this one felt great. Might go and have another play on it tomorrow, it's only 2 mins down the road. Very dangerous it being so close.
Do you mean the one in this link? http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product~name~F...rst~ID~9701.asp This one is called a 70's re-issue but you refer to a 75 re-issue and I can't find any 75 re-issue.
Yeah, that rings a bell. nice one.
Oh boy, I sound like a Fender officiardo now and thats also a far too big a word for me let alone a bass player
Actually im not sure what red they call it although as you have said, it is transparent. Its certainly not CAR though.
OK, I think I have got the colour sussed. The Highway One comes in Transparent Wine which I think is what colour yours bass is. Midnight Wine is the other colour Fender do and is a very very dark deep red that shows no wood grain.
Ok guys. As requested. A few of my HW-1 Jazz. Please excuse the reflections. Ive not got the hang of getting shots without them yet.
WOW, that looks stunning. However, are you sure thats Wine red? Looks more like a Trans red. At the moment I am leaning towards the Fender Jazz 70's re-issue although the Highway One looks stunning. Thanks for the photo's.

I have owned a 1973 Telecaster bass and a 1977 Precision. The Precision was an amazing bass. Not heavy at all and fairly chunky but not too chunky. I felt part of it when I played it. However, it sounded bloody amazing. A really big rich sound. The 73 Telecaster bass on the other hand was the heaviest thing ever. The neck was super fat and everything just felt stiff and rigid. It sounded nice, fat but wooly which I guess is what it should be.

Is the bass part on Ben E King's Stand By Me played on a double bass? It sure sounds like it.
I Love my USA 75 re-issue it is my main gigging bass if push came to shove and all but 1 had to go that would be the one. I agree with the natural finish, Not nice, but the previous own had mine sprayed Shoreline Gold I spent a couple of hours at Coda music in Luton a few weeks ago while their tech sorted out a problem I had on another bass and I played everything they had there. Vintage P bass, some beautiful Musicmans, Warwicks down to an amazing Danelectro, but the bass that came out on top was the MIM 75ish Jazz basses (both a black and a sunburst) they are a lot of bass for £450ish if I hadn't recently added a All parts nice in a similar style to my other Jazz, I would have got one. the neck seemed slightly chunker (like the Allparts one) but not a great deal Go for it.
Darcy, whats that blue Fender Jazz you have in your picture? Looks great and such a wonderful blue colour.

Good thread this. I also adore the Fender American Vintage 75 re-issue Jazz bass. I love the colour and its one of my dream basses. However, I can no way afford to spend £1200 on a bass, not at this moment anyway. So I am looking at all my options also. I love the Fender 70's Re-Issue Jazz bass that you have pointed out. They also do a Fender classic 60's Jazz bass for £549 and a Fender Precision 50's bass for £445 which also looks ace. Then you have the Fender Standard Series Jazz Bass for £350. The thing is, apart from the name. what are the differences between these basses?? Is one better than the other or are they the same and just different branding?
Dave, any chance of more pics of your HW-1? Ive wanted one for years and think the wine red is soooo sexy.
Would love to see more piccies also, especially with the pickguard on it

Working on Level 42 - Children Say. Not the hardest bass line in the world although a few odd notes in odd places. Just a great effective bass part that I have loved for years.

Nobody has really given any feedback on a standard Fender Jazz? Is this because they are crap and not worth the money? Are they made in Mexico? Just wondering why nobody has made any comments about them but have said the Squire is awsome.
Linus. Just took these of my HW1. This is after a year's usage. Ive not used it for about 2 years now. I do look after my gear and i have never had the back go like this on any of my basses. The paint was just rubbing/falling off. Its still got the costing on the patches, just not the paint. The front is obviously where i rest my hand (pick playing).
Thanks for the photo's Dave. It certainly looks worn in
Wouldn’t your budget be better spent fixing the ESP?
To be honest, this crossed my mind the other day and it is something that I need to do as the bass has a lot of sentimental value. However, as it does have sentimental value, I want to cherish this bass and so not use it as my workhorse. So this is the reason to get another fretted bass that I can use and abuse if need be.
Is the Squier VMJ still in production? It's not on the Squier site anymore. The VMP is, along with the Dirnt, Wentz, Affinities and Classic Vibe series. No VMJ in evidence. Not too bothered, as I've already got one. Very good it is too for a £225 instrument. I agree that the electrics may well be the weak link. Mine just has a BadAss II and nice Schaller control knobs on it. So far.
VMJ is still on the site. Here is the link, http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...mp;cat=jazzbass Still undecided though on what to get :)
Ive got a first gen Wine red HW-1. The neck is fantastic. In fact ive had this neck on two differnt basses. I got a HW-one P last year and that to was nice but i didnt get on too well with the neck so the Jazz neck went on while i had it. When i went to get it (my first Jazz) it played the best in the shop, including the USA ones they had. And of course it was the cheapest. I never use it these days as i fell out with the jazz tone but i kept it as im sure ill need a Jazz at some point. I would offer to sell it but to be honest it looks a bit of a state due to the finish falling off. Its been very well looked after but it looks about 30 years old. Quality wise im not too sure whats the best but i really like the finish on the HW-one so that would get my vote.
Do you have any piccies you could post or send me. I have read lots about the paint flaking off and I would love to see to what extent it does and how it looks.
Quality wise - probably not a patch on your ESP 400
HAHA good one. My ESP is in need of a little attention or the neck is so she has been put to sleep for a while. I want a bass that can be my workhorse and I can use and abuse

Looks like I am having no luck getting a Teal Musicman for my budget, plus my budget has shrunk a little so I am looking at maybe getting a Fender Jazz bass for now. I am looking at the following, Fender Jazz Highway One in wine red £489 Fender Standard Jazz in wine red £350 Squire Vintage Modified Jazz £225 The Highway one might be a little bit over my budget but I may get a second hand one if I can find one in wine red. Just wondering what peoples opinions are of these basses and how they compare to each other in quality and sound. Thanks for any advice.

Listening Start Your Journey right now and man that sounds superb. What an amazing groove and a bass sound to die for. What bass you playing? A tad too loud in the mix and the guitars too quite but still great. Just listened to Or Maybe Later and what a superb tune. Love the band name also.

Nice sound and a very full bass sound. Sounds a bit like Reef/Maroon 5. Elementary has a nice chord structure especially the chorus. My only criticism, which may not be valid is unless the singer is American then he should stop singing with an American accent. Apart from that, all good stuff.
