Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
Linus27 replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
I have Greenking's old SB320, which is a honey sunburst colour and has gold hardware with the Gotoh tuners. It has a P/J pickup configuration and says SGC on the pickups and SGC Nanyo Bass Collection on the battery cover. The serial number is also a sticker on the battery cover and not inside the cover. It might be on the cover inside also but I have not looked to be honest. The serial number is 953293 so I guess the 95 means made in 95. The 32 means its a 320 so what does the 93 stand for?? Here is a picture of it with my other toys. -
I bet you got a real boost from this, good spot.
Well, I am just happy that we caught a fraudster. There are enough tossers out there trying to rip inocent people off. We should all be happy that we did this. The only thing that caught my eye was the headstock looked the wrong shape, which was a little geeky of me. Also the sticker clearly looked wrong, the top horn looked a bit pointy and the body looked a bit thin. It was the other guys who noticed the more technical details like the bridge and pickups. So a great team effect with a great result.
thanks for your messages buy the way!!! cool lot of geezers..CHEERS!
Hi Shonks, great to see you made it here. I am Linus27 on here and first alerted this clever lot to what i thought was a fake. I am 27Renault who also contacted you on Ebay. Really pleased you have not parted with your money. As you can see from the above comments, it sure is a fake.

Yep, emailed the winner also.

Good news in the end. Has anyone emailed the winner to say its not a real Musicman?? Oh, and I got an answer to my question for picture of the back, neck plate and rear of the head stock. His reply was, The neck plate has been replaced and the notivation sticker on the back has come off because its quite old. Another fraudster busted. Good work everyone.
Aren't individual opinions great Seriously though - I wouldn't have bought this Bass on looks, it's the decent reviews (and the price that swayed me). I think Jazz basses without the pickguard look fugly, so when I recieve mine I will change it (and surely even if I decided to take it off again the screw holes that are left would make it look more "Jaco" anyway?
HEHE I have a black jazz that I have taken the white scratplate of leaving the holes and it looks great. Anyway, I love my VMJ and I am sure your going to love yours when you get it. they are superb. The neck is especially brillaint.

Blimey. I am quite proud in seeing what I thought was a fake Musicman on Ebay. I wonder if this would convince my wife that as I know all about them I should own one I also hope that it has saved someone from being ripped of. I've just asked for picture of the back of the body, the neck plate and the back of the headstock. I bet I don't get them
Black
Yeah, thats what I think also. If your going to ruin it, I mean, change it and add a scratchplate, then I would choose black.
-
They are great basses and your be fine playing her. Just make sure to remember to play on the lines and not inbetween them. Personally, I think a scratchplate would ruin it. Its a pretty light sunburst colour.

Have a look at this link on Ebay for a Musicman. Look at the shot of the head. It just looks wrong. The sticker is different to normal. Also the body looks a bit thin. Anyone else think it looks a bit odd. Does anyone know where in the UK I can buy a set of Fender 70's jazz knobs like the ones in the below picture?

If anyone is looking to buy one of these superb Stagg EUB, just to let you know that one has come up for sale in the For Sale section. Not mine may I add. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;#entry346647 Hope that helps somebody out.
Thanks mate. Maybe you're right on the price. I'd do it for £300 inc postage or £285 picked up. This really is as new
No problem. I think that a much more realistic deal and somebody should snap that up. They would be foolish not to. I have put a heads up to this sale in the Stagg thread in the double bass forum. Hope that helps.
-
Just to say that I have one of these (bought from a fellow BC) and they are superb. If anyone is thinking about trying electric double bass then I can highly recommend this EDB. They are amazing value. My only comment is I think the price may be a little steep and may struggle to sell for £300 despite them being hard to find. Like you say though, if someone is willing to pay for it then good on them. Good luck with the sale.
Mine would be to break away from constantly following the guitar in the band im playing in at the moment. Because its pretty fast paced its hard to drop interesting parts in, but I think I need to be more imaginative in my playing.
Hope you don't mind me giving some advice, but, try playing the song with just the drummer. Just raw drum and bass. Your be amazed at how much space you'll hear and will will be able to put your own things in. Your also hear the song from a different angle and hopefully get some inspiration to try some new things out. Its also good to just play the song as many times as you can with the drummer so the two of you can really get the groove and rythem locked in tight. Your be amazed at how tight the song feels after doing that a few times when you play with the whole band. Your also get used to listening and working with the drums rather than listening and following what the guitarist is doing. Hope that helps or gives you something to try.
Buy a bass
Have you not got one yet. I thought you went to try some out this week.

1. Play more. 2. Go through the music books I have. 3. Learn to play all the CD's I have put together of Fretless bass, double bass, pop bass and punk bass songs. 4. Become a competent fingers player (played with a pick for 21 years) 5. Join a band. 6. Buy either a Precision or Musicman to complete my collection.

Back in the mid 1990's I think, Fender released a re-issue of it's Fender Telecaster bass. It came in sunburst and I think a very pale yellow colour. The difference between this version and the current 51' re-issue is it had a contoured body and not a slab body. The studio I was recording in actually had one and it was a pretty decent bass. I am not sure where it was made but memory is saying Japan. That could be wrong though. Now the thing is, I have never seen any info or one for sale ever. Does anyone have any more info on this bass or know about the bass I am refering to?? Thanks
Hi Linus . Long time no speak. I should get the band up on the gig thread if I ever get round to it. Next gig is the Prince of Wales Hammer Vale, Haslemere on the 29th Nov then Crown Inn Knaphill 19 Dec. You can My space "Six Miles Away" to see if our other bookings suit better. Would be great to meet up at one of them. Cheers Don
Hiya Don, thanks for the info. Yes, would be great to meet up and say Hi. My wife is about to give birth anyday now so might not be until the new year but I will check out My Space. How you getting on wih the Stagg?
Dont be too hastey in selling, I lost interest in bass playing for a while but it came back to me and I had to re buy a load of gear, perhaps just tuck it away in a corner for a while and see how you feel in a while?
I agree with this also. I had some amazing bass gear, all paid for by the record company. I just sold it and gave up for about 6 years and have now had to go out and buy everything again but stuff thats good but not worth as much as what I did have. If you can keep it and just tuck it away then I would highly recommend that. I promise, you will regret it, especially if you lose a bass as beautiful as this.
your tutor is a guitar player first things first, as guitarists use plectrums, i hope you or your tutor dont everybody knows real bassists dont use a pick
Bad monkey, some of the best players in the world use picks.
