Garry Gary Beers - which album/songs?
I was wondering this. I am a big Garry bary Beers fan and not aware of what tracks he played fretless bass on.
With the demise of some great venues (th tumbledown, and the astoria) will there be anywhere left to play in the future?.. So many venues are being closed down and turned into restaurants, or being knocked down for the new high speed rail link..
Also the West End Centre is still on shakey ground. I think the Star in Guildford is still going strong for now.

Maxcat, No problem with the help. I think your be pleasantly surprised at how much better the red looks in the flesh. Its such a lovely deep powerful red that does not really show in the pictures. I think your going to love it even more when you see it for real. Good luck and let us know how you get on with the Stagg.
My guess is that the bubble is set to burst as music ceases to be as important to future generations as it was to previous ones.
This is a very good point and I have noticed this for a few years already. A lot of younger people who I meet are just not interested in music, not to the extent when I was younger and my sisters who are older than me were younger. They might latch on to one or two cool songs but they don't go out buying CD's or checking out new bands. The interest is just not there. One thing that I think will happen in a much bigger way is live media will really take off. Say for example you want to go and see U2 in concert but you can't get the tickets to go and see them in person. Not a problem, you will be able to pay a fee and watch the concert, still live from multiple camera angles or as a complete broadcast package, either on your PC, media console or TV. I think in time, this will become main stream as the costs to do this will come down.
Hi mate, I think so - let me get hold of the guitar player and get him to cook one up for you. Any particular tempo/feel? Cheers ped
Hiya, the same sort of thing but much longer would be superb. A couple of minutes if possible. Also anything else but similar sort of style would be great. I am learning double bass so anything that I can jam along to and make my own lines up to for practise would be excellent. Thanks.

Hi, I am still looking for my amp and cabs to buy and I have pretty much dialled it down to two makes. Either the Ashdown MAG range or the Hartke VX range. I have read a lot about the Ashdown having a certain sound. Some like it and some don't. I previously owned a very good XL series Hartke setup which sounded nice but the alluminium speakers I found gave a thin sound which was not to my liking. Can someone tell me what sort of sound to expect from the following, Ashdown MAG 300 head Ashdown MAG 210T Deep Cabinet Ashdown MAG 115 Deep Cabinet and this, Hartke HA3500 Hartke VX2x10 Hartke VX1x15 I have no idea what sort of sound the Ashdown Mag will give me but I get the impression it might be fatter but less bright over the Hartke. I don't want a wooly undefined sound but I don't want a thin twangy funky sound like my old Hartke rig. Thanks for any help.

Has anyone got one of these Little Giant amps yet and if so, any feedback?

Jools Holland being live and Estelle's bassist with mad skillz
just watched last nights repeat. loved the tone off the Yeasayer's bassisist's Asat fretless. the guy had a nice sense of space to his playing with some wicked little fills. the vocalist though seemed to lift a lot of his posturing and movement straight off Brandon Flowers, and anyway singers with beards are just not on
I really liked the Yeasayer song and bassist. He had a bit of a Jaco look and theme to him. I ended up downloading the album. -
Calm down folks - it's only a piece of music we're talking about..
Plus, its not a very interesting or good piece of music to start arguing over. In 2 years time, nobody will be thinking, listening or talking about this song. Its not going to be a classic, thats for sure. -
Hey, I really like that, do you have anything longer so I can jam along to?

As requested, here are a couple of pictures, 1 of the stand and 1 of the bass standing in the stand. If you would like some more then just ask. To play the bass, you would take it out of the stand unless your about 8ft tall. The pin stand on the bass is already set to you desired height and slides into the top of the stand. The bottom of the bass rests on the lip around the hole on the stand. The nut on the stand winds in and meets up with the pin sitting in the shaft of the stand and this is what holds it in place. So to take the bass out, you just unwind the nut on the stand and then slide the bass out. In terms of the colour of my Stagg (ex Bassace), the only way I can describe it is a deep wine red. However, it does not look plastic as you can see the wood grain on it so it looks great. When I was looking at this bass, I really wanted black, but this red would had been my second choice. However, now I own the red one, I love it and if I get a NS EUB, I might choose red again if its as deep red as this. If anyone really is having any thoughts about getting this Stagg, then I can really recommend it as a great instrument as an introduction to EUB. I certainly have not had any problems getting used to playing EUB and it has pushed me to go and get lessons. Its not holding me back at all and for £250 new, you can't go wrong really. Plus, if you don't like EUB then as you can see from the interest in this thread, it should not be a problem if you wanted to sell it on.

I ended up buying Bassace's Stagg from him complete with home made stand. I would be lost with out his stand. The standing pin is set to my height so I can keep the Stagg out all the time and just slide it on and off the stand whenever I want to play. Its great. As for the two prong connectors on the Stagg, I never use them and so far it has never been a problem. In fact the smaller one on the left as you play I never got from Bassace. Not sure if he forgot to give it to me or he also never had one. The larger one on the right I never use. I find it gets in my way.

I decided not to get the Ashdown stuff as the more I read about the MAG models, the more problems I keep reading people have. Anything from the blue speaker cones not being up to the job or the amp head needing repairs always. So I have decided to go with the following, Hartke HA3500 amp 350 Watts @ 8 Ohms/240 Watts @ 4 Ohms Hartke VX115 speaker 300 Watts @ 8 Ohms Hartke VX210 speaker 200 Watts @ 8 Ohms Can I just check one thing though. If I connect both those speakers into the amp, will that turn them into 4 Ohms and so I will get the full 350 watts from the amp or will they stay at 8 Ohms and I only get the 240 watts?? Thanks again for any help.

Thanks so far for the help everyone. I have got the offer of an Ashdown 300Mag bass amp and 4 x 10 at a very good price. Should I go for it or hold out and get a Harke 3500 amp??

If you really are not sure about the move then a Stagg is an ideal instrument to get. For just over a couple of hundred pounds you get an excellent EUB to start out on and if its not for you, then your easily sell it. If you love EUB then it will stand you in good sted until you fancy an upgrade.
