  1. Excellent, thank you, I may just do that if I keep it. I can easily get into London for the Bass Gallery so I'll look into it. Thank you for the suggestion.
  2. Ebony is absolutely gorgeous for fretless, my fretless Jazz has an ebony board and that sings beautifully. This is my fretless Ray though which has a Pau Ferro board. Its lovely and does sing but also having an ebony Jazz, I wish it had an ebony board as well. I also have a fretless Precision which is a high gloss maple board and that also really sings.
  3. Ah yes, how could I forget those who we are aware of but must never be spoken of in public 😁
  4. The red fretless is absolutely gorgeous 😍
  5. Welcome, Basschat is super open, respectful and fairly tolerant. We have those that love Precision, those that love Jazz basses, those that love Stingrays and then those that hate them all. We even have the odd members of the family that play Rickenbackers and Gibsons 😂 We have those that play unlined fretless basses and those that play lined fretless basses and those that play with flats and those that play with rounds. It's all acceptable and one big happy family. We also all have the same problems and stresses, usually singers and guitarists but we love drummers 😁
  6. Thanks for the info, I will look into those patches and give them a go. The one's I've been using are Molly, The Solitude, Hermitage, Bunny Bum, Open Space, Hendrick and French Funk.
  7. Good on you for getting back to playing fretless. I actually find it quite hard going back to a fretted bass now. It feels so restrictive and I had to sell my 75 Jazz which had blocks and binding as it was so messy to look at and was doing my eyes in lol I'm not sure of the name of the chorus patch I use but I have seen the Nathan East one. I do find a lot can get quite boomy so I'll give the Nathan East one a go tonight and see what its like.
  8. I asked this question a little while back as I only play fretless and play a fair amount of harmonics. I've settled on a chorus pedal and the TC Electronic's Hall of Fame 2. Works quite nicely.
  9. Yep, same.
  10. Ooh, I'm off to read his Wiki page as not actually read it.
  11. Love it, Bill Evans is incredible.
  12. I'm after a set of LaBella Low Tension Flats Long Scale. Prices seem all over the place from £40 up to £80. Bass Direct seem the best place right now.
  13. Ok perfect, thank you very much for your help.
  14. @Reggaebass Perfect, thank you very much, you're a star.
  15. Have to agree with this, my very first fretless was a Squire Vintage Modified that I played as a bit of fun when I was out trying fretted basses in music shops about 10 years ago. I was with my wife and decided to give it a go and said to her, this could be interesting as in this is going to be embarrassingly bad. Ended up playing it for about an hour with a perplexed expression on my face thinking this is actually great. A few days later, came home to find the bass waiting for me. My wife said you were so comfortable playing it, played it so naturally and looked so happy that I've bought it for you. Also, my main recording bass is a Mexican Fender FSR 70's Precision. Tried it in Guitar Guitar and it sounded phenomenal and was beautiful to play. I've got Stingray's, US Fenders and many other higher end basses that have come and gone but this Mexican Fender is incredible. Plus, what's the one bass I regret selling, my 77 Fender Precision??, my 73 Fender Telebass??, my dream Stingray that I bought when I got signed??, my first Warwick Streamer that cost £2300??, nope, it's a £700 Mexican Fender Jazz 70's Reissue. It was beautiful and sounded wonderful and fitted to my playing perfectly and I so miss it.
  16. So on my discovery of great Jazz albums, I've been listening to the following over the last few days, John Coltrane - Giant Steps Art Pepper - Meets The Rhythm Section Hank Mobley - Soul Station Oliver Nelson - The Blues and the Abstract Truth Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners Charlie Mingus - Mingus Ah Um Bill Evans - Everybody Digs Bill Evans
  17. I've had my Evo for a few months now and love it. However, one thing I noticed is that if I use the Active socket, the output is super low. I usually use my passive Jazz or Precision in the Passive socket and the output is fine but when I plug my active Stingray into the Active socket it is super quiet. Is this normal or do I have an issue.
  18. Just a quick question regarding the LaBella Low Tension Flats, for a regular Fender Precision, is it the standard long scale set I need to purchase? I really fancy trying a set on my fretless Precision after all the great reviews.
  19. I believe its just a 72 Precision that has a Jazz neck on it. Its not his first bass or basses he owned but certainly from early in his career. The pickguard was either broken or cut deliberately.
  20. I agree with what Happy Jack says and that as a musician, we are all on the spectrum somewhere, some more than others. Even I, who thought I was the most level headed and normal person in the world has this year, after 35 years of playing come to the conclusion that I too am on the spectrum thanks to my wife and daughter pointing certain things out to me. Thankfully nothing serious just little quirks and idiosyncrasies but perhaps what I thought was perfectly normal is in fact less so. I think its impossible for a musician or in fact any artist or creative type to not be somewhere on the spectrum, its what makes us us and every real musician I have played with I have always thought had flaws with their personality, some more so than others. I just never realised that I did to. I also very much subscribe that there are a lot of dreamers, weirdos, and people who can dish out criticism but can't take constructive suggestions as well.
  21. I was going to post in the other thread "Things I'd like manufacturers to do..." asking MarkBass to stop designing amp facias that look like they have been designed by Fisher Price but it seems that the current range of amps are more classic and subtle looking so well done MarkBass.
  22. He was awesome and the head was a MoMark TA500 which sounded fab.
  23. I need to do a photo of all of them together and the sunburst Precision now has a black scratch plate but here you go. Top one is a Mexican Fender FSR 70's Precision with custom Jon Shuker fretless maple neck. As standard it comes with US Vintage pickups and all the pots etc. have been upgraded. It's strung with chromes and it sounds and plays amazing. The middle one is a Japanese ESP 400 series 62RI Jazz bass that is from 86/87. It's was made at the Japanese Fender factory and all the dimensions and fittings are interchangeable with Fender so basically it could of come off the production line as a Fender or ESP. It has a Jon Shuker fretless ebony board and Bartolimi pickups. The best bass I have ever owned and I would buy another in a heartbeat. The bottom one is an EB Stingray with fretless Pau Ferro neck and the last one is a Japanese 62RI Precision that I picked up last month. You've had some awesome fretless basses yourself, especially the Wal 😮
  24. Yep, 100% this.
  25. Does actually make perfect sense, on my fretless basses, I have to play certain notes in certain places which to the eye look wrong but are in fact in tune.
