  1. I once had an absolutely gorgeous Fender Mike Dirnt Precision is yellow that looked and sounded amazing. I got so many compliments from sound engineers and I adored the look of it. Probably close to one of the best looking basses I've owned. However, despite desperately wanting to love playing it, it was so heavy and the neck was so chunky that it just became hard work and tiresome to play and I grabbed my AVRI 75 Jazz instead. I still miss it now but even if I had it, I doubt I would play it.
  2. Also the Mustang bass is a great bass and played by so many.
  3. I do remember those Fender Jazz Bass Specials, they were gorgeous basses. Fender originally released the first fretless bass as a Precision with a maple or rosewood board in the 70's but I'd be happy with a Mexican or Japanese re-issue now. I actually have the Mexican Fender 70's FSR Precision which on its own is amazing but I got Shuker to make me a maple fretless neck for it and it is a thing of beauty
  4. I'm really happy that Fender have released these, they look lovely but I do also get what people are saying about it being nothing new. My regret is Fender still haven't released or even offer an standard/vintage unlined fretless Precision or Jazz. Oh well, that is life.

  6. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful
  7. That's so cool, please post a picture of the crackle red B20. Would love see it 😍
  8. I think the first bass I bought was a Washburn Force ABT bass in red with the lighting crackle design on it. No idea what happened to it but I know I bought it from Andertons in the late 80's when they were in their original building. I've also has a couple of Washburn AB20 acoustic basses. They were great basses but to me were a bit pointless if not fretless. Here I am playing one in 1998 that belonged to John Payne from Asia in his studio whilst recording an album.
  9. I had something similar at school as well. I wanted to learn to play the trombone around 1981. They put me in a room, played me The Beatles When I'm 64 and some other music I'd never heard, maybe classical. They gave me a written test. They called my parents into the school and basically told them I will never make a musician, I don't have a musical bone in my body 😄 Thirty Six years later, I've had a record deal, released multiple albums, written a piece of music used in an advert, done many tours, two John Peel sessions, a Virgin and XFM session, various TV and Radio shows and made a living out of it. Moral of the story, follow your dream and don't let anyone say otherwise 😀
  10. I absolutely agree, I would love this also but need to get rid of my fretless Fender Japan Jazz first
  11. If I had one of these I'd do exactly the same, looks awesome.
  12. Thanks for sharing Tony, the fretless sounds gorgeous.
  13. For sale is my beautiful Fender Made in Japan Traditional 60s Fretless Jazz Bass in sunburst from 2015 - 2017. This is a super rare bass which I bought from JamesTun on here back in July and is a fabulous bass that plays and sounds amazing. Condition is excellent with only a small ding on the back of the body as seen in the included picture by my little finger. The bass has low action, is super light, plays beautifully and comes with a genuine Fender gig bag. I'm slimming the herd a little as I'm not playing so much these days and along with other family commitments this is now up for sale. Based in Camberley and price is £725 which includes postage. More details can be found here, https://en.audiofanzine.com/electric-fretless-bass/fender/made-in-japan-traditional-60-s-jazz-bass-fretless/ https://www.notreble.com/buzz/2019/01/26/fender-unveils-limited-edition-made-in-japan-basses/
  14. Woohoo, I guessed right, do I win a prize, a 1957 Fender Precision in Sunburst, a Custom shop Fender Precision to my liking, my very own signature Fender Precision, a years supply of Rotosound bass strings of my choice, a signed Fender Precision pickguard, a night out with Natalie Imbruglia, a year of eating out at Nando's, a packet of wine gums?????
  15. Didn't grab me either and started to find it irritating lol Sorry
  16. Nate's tone when he was doing the second track with Brian and Lars was to die for. Not sure if it was a Metalica or AC/DC track but it was the second track they played. The verses were just bass, drums and vocals and it was phenomenal.
  17. Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden. Didn't like anything else by them and yet grunge is one of my favourite styles music.
  18. Plus is 2021, the most popular genre of music was Hip Hop/R&B followed by Pop and Electronic and on Spotify, the most played genre was Hip Hop followed by pop.
  19. Very interesting topic. I initially thought that vintage instruments would perhaps be of some considerable value but I look at some of them now and most are not really what I thought they'd be worth. Excluding some Fender's, if you look at old Warwick's, Stingray's, Status basses then they aren't collector prices so I'm generally not really sure vintage basses are going to be crazy money. Obviously some will like a 50's Precision but I'm not convinced a 1987 Stingray will go silly. I'm also wondering if Skandelver is on the money where he says Rock is going to go the same way as Jazz and other genre's and no longer be mainstream. If anything, it could be a good thing as you'd have a few good rock clubs opening up in the style of say Ronnie Scott's or Jazz Cafe or various Rock festivals like Cambridge folk festival. As for me, I gig with with a couple of wonderful Japanese Fender Jazzes. Worth about £800 - £1000 and they are wonderful instruments. However, after the music career I've had, I felt I owed it to myself to have at least one bass that's a bit special so I also have a Stingray which I gig with occasionally. If it wasn't a Stingray then it would probably be a US Precision or Streamer Stage 1. So nothing fancy or vintage but respectable but wont be worth much when I've turned to dust.
  20. Awesome, he is a superb drummer. Absolute joy playing 50's Rock n Roll with him, he made it so much fun and great to be around. Please please say hello to him from Michael who was in The Bee-Bops and that I hope he's keeping well 👍
  21. So Alan who played in Heartfakers and I believe DiamondHearts played drums for us in The Bee-Bops. Lovely chap and a superb drummer.
