  1. Well, this year I will be 50 and my 32nd year of gigging having starting in 1988 at the age of 18. Last year I did around 90 gigs and the year before 119 so I clearly still love it. This year we have consciously cut back to only 40 as it was taking over our lives and finding that the quality was dropping and we were getting burnt out. Still, 40 in a year is still 3 gigs a month. It is important to share the load, to try and make life as easy as possible, have as much fun as possible with the right people and have a positive attitude. It's also important to remain flexible and open minded and make changes if something is not working. Even more so as you get older and as they say, when something is no longer fun, then it's time to make a change or stop.
  2. I only want one bass to finish my collection, a Fender 51 Precision Reissue. That's all I need and I'm done
  3. Not my cup of tea in the slightest, in fact ugly and ponsy to my taste but that's because I just like old looking Fender's. However, my god Ibanez are making incredible basses and this looks stunning. Good on them for making these basses and doing something different rather than a Fender clone. Great basses and such a great brand. Top Mark's Ibanez.
  4. Yep, unlined as well and I also dont understand the lined/unlined thing. You don't get lined violins, cellos, double basses, viola's etc.
  5. I would agree with 99% of this and certainly the part where it's in the individual players technique and fingers. This is very true and I've had people play my best sounding Jazz bass and it sound totally different to how it sounds when I play it. The closest was Silverfox but even then, he even sounded darker than when I play it. The only part I would not totally agree on is being able to recognise the difference between certain types of basses. Running everything flat and with the same strings, I would say that I would be able to recognise the difference between a Stingray over a Jazz/Precision and a lot of other basses but that is purely down to knowing the sounds of those basses. I wouldn't however be able to tell you if someone was playing a Thunderbird, a Status, Rickenbacker or an EB3. I did a similar test on my wife and played my two Jazz basses, my Stingray, my Precision and my Kala Ubass and she could pretty much identify each one.
  6. Playing a rather large club which is ticketed. 2 x 1 hour sets and we'll finish about 12.30am. We are getting paid £2k. This is for 5 band members and a soundmen. We are also booked for NYE 2020 in a different club and getting paid £2.3k.
  7. Edited for you Dave because you missed a bit out 🤣😂
  8. Oh geez, I love my Ampeg PF500 but I love my Ashdown CTM15 and this will sound sooo good through my Barefaced Two10. What do we think this will be priced at?
  9. That was my Ashdown Mi550. The TH500 I mentioned was your one as well 😁
  10. Not sure you can ask that question as you will get lots of personal opinions back. I personally use an Ampeg PF500 and it sounds amazing. I've also played a Tone Hammer 500 through it and it sounded amazing. I've also ran my Ashdown Mi550 through it and it sounds great. If I was to be honest, I would say that as it's such a great cab, most decent amp heads will sound good.
  11. I just want a Fender 51 P-Bass reissue. Then I'm sorted and happy.
  12. I have an Ampeg PF500 which I love but I was looking at the Fender Rumble 800HD. If I didn't get my Ampeg force stupid £150 then I would of probably bought the Fender head.
  13. Well I've had a fairly busy year buying and selling gear this year, however I can't really tell you much about the stuff I've bought as it's not turned up 🤣 The first thing I bought was a Limelight 1960 fretless Fender Jazz. This was back in April and told about 12 - 16 weeks. However, a few issues along the way, mostly CITES and it's still not here. However, Mark has been great and I believe it's not far off now. The second thing is a maple fretless neck for my natural Fender FSR 70 Precision. It's going to be a replica of the one Sting used to play. Told it would be 6 - 8 weeks so sent the bass off back in July and still not got it back yet. I've also just bought a Stagg Deluxe EUB. Paid and got email confirmation from the shop and now nothing. Need to contact them tomorrow to find out what's going on. So at this rate, I might get 2 new basses and an electric double bass for Christmas 🤣😂 Of the things I have got, they have all been ace. I got a Barefaced Two10 from Chris on here and it has simply been brilliant. Such a loud, clean, punchy, lightweight cab. I also bought an Ampeg PF500 for a stupid £150 and I really love this amp head. I've never had an Ampeg and just wanted to scratch that itch and I love it to pieces. It sounds incredible through my Barefaced Two10. I also bought an Ashdown CT15 valve head and Ashdowm Mi 1x10 cab just to play through at home and again, it sounds amazing and looks so hot. So my two new rigs are great so that's a start.
  14. There's something really good about a beaten up sunburst bass. I really want a beaten up 51 P-Bass but this Jazz just looks amazing.
  15. Generally, I'm going to have to disagree with you (sorry, you did say it was ok to) but I think in the verses, it's that funky rhythm guitar under the straight tambourine. The rest of the song seems a bit bland to me.
  16. Nice little review. I went through the same process as you minus the back injury but wanted to go smaller as lugging my Epifani 310UL was just getting too much. It was an amazing sounding cab and wasn't heavy but the size was no different to a 4x10 and getting tiresome. So I took the risk on buying a Two10 from Chris who was selling one of his and I am blown away with it. I run it through an Ampeg PF500 head and it sounds truly amazing. Its loud, punchy and the tone is amazing. I play in a 4 piece 50's Rock n Roll band that plays mostly clubs and the occasional pub and I have zero problem hearing myself. It's a truly great sounding cab and I have no need to change or upgrade.
  17. When I first saw your post Tom, I didn't catch the 3eq bit and panicked and thought you were selling my old one 😬 Good luck with the sale of this beauty 😊
  18. That Stingray 😍😍 I've resisted three this year that were exactly like that, stunning, just stunning.
  19. When I was 10 back in 1980, I wanted to do music at school, so they sat me in a room, played me The Beatles - When I'm 64 and some classical music. Then gave me a written test on what I've just listened to. The end result was the music teacher told my parents I will never make a musician, I dont have a musical bone in my body.
  20. I have the PF500 as my main gigging head running through a Barefaced Two10 and it sounds fantastic. Really lovely tones. Bought it secondhand for £160 and it's been great.
  21. Same, just gonna keep my eyes open for a Jap re-issue.
  22. That looks fabulous, where did you get it made? Limelight?.
