  1. I would probably have to say the States for me because I prefer the music that has come from those shores. If we are talking 50s/60s then Motown, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc. is more my cup of tea. Grunge is probably one of my favourite forms of music with groups like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against The Machine and I will also include Linkin Park. Where Brit music for me was the best was 80's pop like Talk Talk, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, Depeche Mode. Nothing could beat 80's Brit pop.
  2. I'm hoping it will be ok for me as a back up to my main rig as it will run at 4 ohms and for acoustic, my Fender Rumble is 100 watts so plenty to cover that. The other option is the TC BH250 which is still small and 250 watts at 4 ohms. I think these are about £180 new.
  3. I'm waiting for the BAM200 to come out as I'm after a small back up amp head to keep in my gig bag so if my Hartke HA5500 goes down, then I have something still. Also, I will use it with some 1x10 cab for when I do acoustic gigs and will mean I can sell my Fender Rumble 100 combo. They appear to be selling for about £110 and if you look at this video, it appears to be about the size of an adult hand so very small. My understanding is they are 200 watts at 4 ohms.
  4. I would love one of these Lakland's as I love the colour.
  5. Just over 30 years and still learning new things, still improving and certainly still loving it. When I was at school along with my parents, I was told that I will never make a musician and I don't have a musical bone in my body. I must of been about 10 and I then picked up the bass at about 17. I played it every day in my bedroom for 2 years and then went out and joined a band. I've played Stadium Rock, Indie Guitar Punk Pop, Folk Pop, Acoustic Soul, Electronic EBM, 50s/60 pop, 50's sounding Rock n Roll and depped for a U2 tribute band. I've had a record deal, been on TV, written music for an advert, multiple live radio sessions, many tours either supporting or on my own. I've worked and recorded with many named artists, did 119 gigs last year and have gigs booked up for the next 3 years. I consider myself very lucky but every day there is something new I learn about playing bass, it never stops, it never gets boring and I love it to bits. No idea how long I will keep going as my fingers seem tighter these days and a couple of knuckles get sore occasionally so gonna make the most of it while I can.
  6. I've not tried either but I would be interested in hearing the Epifani UL901 with these. However, I've never been happy with the 3 or 4 class D amps I've owned. So much so that I've picked up a Hartke HA5500 amp (owned one 20 years ago) for peanuts and it totally blows away my Little Mark 3 for dynamics and tonal nuances. It's a brick in comparison, but boy does it sound incredible especially when you blend the tube and solid state pre amps. Oh, it mega loud as well.
  7. I would also go with a 2012 - 2015 US Standard. I had a white with rosewood and it was a cracking bass. Didn't look very 70's as it was a modern spin but it sounded and played great. If you wanted to save some money but get the looks, you could also look at the Fender FSR 70's Precision Bass. It is natural, maple neck and has the Vintage 58 pickups. I have one and its superb. About £770 new.
  8. Fender Pino Sig Fender Jazz Spector
  9. That is gorgeous. Do you have any more details or pictures?
  10. Haha I so hate this tablet and its predicted text ggrrrrrr 😬🤣
  11. Loved that, thank you and fretless Banjo 😮
  12. What's the song? By the way, had a listen to the stuff you posted on SELOC and it sounds great.
  13. Go viral if they dont play ball. Obviously let them know but Basschat, Talkbass and Facebook are strong tools for this. Very disappointing the way they are treating you. Let Flea know as well, he'll probably send you a whole new bass 😁
  14. I play with a "my-way-or-the-highway drummer that has their own view and will play on regardless even if their selection sounds awful - tend also to be a know-all". Even my 10 year old daughter last night was talking about the band and asked what's the name of the one who can't play drums very well Has no idea of dynamics, timing, playing for the song to the point where people are commenting that the songs don't actually have a back beat and are just a series of fills. The band is a hoot to play in though but there is zero musical enjoyment as there is no drum and bass locking in. He also follows the vocals so when there are no vocals he tends to get lost. The only way I can sustain it is to look as it as a bit of fun with the rest of the band and a money making exercise and not as an enjoyable musical project. So, as a side line I have formed another band with superb musicians and its so refreshing and rewarding to play with incredible musicians. It has kept me sane.
  15. For me, Fender make the best pencils and even though I prefer the look of the Precision pencil, I find the Jazz pencil suits me the most. I don't even try any other pencils now, I have two Jazz pencils, an AVRI75 and a Japanese 66 RI and two Precision pencils, a Mike Dirnt Mk.1 and a FSR 70's RI. They are all solid, reliable and feel the most comfortable to me.
  16. Wasn't it Alex James who said something along the lines that bass is like a pencil, you just need to find a pencil you find comfortable to use. Sort of insinuating that they all do the same job and not really any different. I tend to agree with this somewhat, certainly live. In fact I bet it would be pretty impossible to identify which bass is used if a bunch of tracks were posted and then asked the question, Precision, Jazz, Stingray, Thunderbird, Telecaster bass, Warwick etc.?
  17. I'm thinking of buying one of these and sticking a fretless neck on it, a black pickguard and a set of Fender 62 Custom Shop Precision pickups. I think it would look and sound amazing.
  18. That is a gorgeous yellow. Do you know the name of it?
  19. Yep, very sad. The Colour of Spring is probably in my top 3 albums ever. All the musicians are amazing and Pail Webb is one of my fav bassist.
  20. A Status neck will be a nice idea, its looking like the probable route I will take. Its just deciding what bass to marry it to
  21. Its not a case of the cost, its more a case of trying to find one. They are just so rare. It is possible to find a genuine 70's one but then we are talking silly money into £2k - £3k territory which I don't have, or want to spend on a bass that will be a regular working bass. I've also not seen a Mexican unlined fretless bass ever, only American and Japanese and again they are so rare. I don't understand why Fender don't make a standard unlined fretless Precision and Jazz for those that want to play fretless. Apart from Jaco, I don't know of any named bassist that plays a lined fretless. Pino Paladino, Sting, Jeff Ament, Derek Forbes, Tony Levin, Tony Franklin, Mick Khan, Percy Jones, Bakithi Kumalo, Jack Bruce, John Giblin plus many more all play unlined. I'm sure there are known players who play lined but the majority are unlined. I'm not worried about the value from resale as its not something I will ever sell on.
  22. No, just the neck. I did enquire and the cost to make me a P-bass neck, with a side dot in the first position, holes drilled at heel and for tuners and to be fitted to my bass with a restring and setup was £537.
  23. Oh, Gareth was round my house last week picking up my two MarkBass cabs. I could of asked him about this bass if I had known hehehehe
