  1. SUNN Mustang Fretless Precision was gorgeous.
  2. What is this method? Please explain this black magic 😁
  3. Thanks Graham, I'd forgotten all about this interview and I can't believe it was 9 years ago, how time flies.
  4. Thank you, I shall be buying one
  5. Oooh yes, I forgot about her. I remember Clare playing a Bass Collection.
  6. I've found football supports have absolutely no sense of humor when it comes to their own football team. I'm more than happy for someone to take the mick out of my favourite F1 team or driver ( I support Renault and have supported Alesi, Montoya and Alonso so quite an easy target at times) but football fans seem to not be able to take with some sort of humor. I wonder if it the gang/tribe mentality.
  7. I was talking about this yesterday. I was watching the F1 which was in Spain and the commentators starting talking about Barcelona and some football match or championship that Barcelona didn't get through to or something. What bugged me was the way he was talking as if we all followed football and knew exactly what he was talking about. I had no idea and no interest and you never here then talking about Rugby or Cricket but its as if we all follow football.
  8. I have a Fender Mike Dirnt Precision in yellow in mint condition. It's the mk1 version and I've never seen a yellow one before. It's an amazing bass but I really dont need it and I keep deciding to sell it and then changing my mind. I just know that I will never see another one again if I let it go, it sounds and plays beautifully and is in mint condition. I know sellers remource will be high if I let it go so I've hidden it under the bed, out of sight, out of mind 😂🤣
  9. For me, I've never really been able to capture the sound I like. What I liked and what worked for me were two totally different things. I love Derek Forbes's early simple minds sound. We even spoke about it but even if I got anything close, I hated it for my own sound. Just didn't feel right for me and flanger works great for him but for me I hated it but I love his sound. I also love the whole Stingray sound but when I played my Stingray and got that sound, I hated it. Even the woody sound of Warwick's I love but for me it just didn't work. I did once get that typical Precision sound and it was glorious but generally my sound is very rounded and warm. Not thumpy like Jamerson, but full, balanced and no matter what bass I play, it always goes that way and if it doesnt then I just feel uncomfortable and awkward. As for technique then what I found was I was being subconsciously influenced by a lot of fretless bass players. A lot of my bass lines had slides and points where I would sustain certain notes so when I did start playing fretless, the lines came alive. The few comments I've had about my playing that have stuck are my notes are consistent in volume and I hold a note and let it sustain rather than cutting it short. I'm also a melodic player and like to keep busy which might be linked to the comment earlier about Jazz players tend to be melodic and play more in the middle of the neck. As for basses, I love Precisions but always play Jazz, again, I always feel more comfortable with them tonally. I have never liked fancy woods like birdseye this or roasted that. Plus, no fancy colours please, just natural or pastel colours please.
  10. Ok thank you, Rotosound rounds would be my choice but I would like the lighter gauge of 40 - 100. I might drop him an email. Thanks for your reply.
  11. Mark is making me a 1960's stack knob light relic fretless jazz in Sherwood Green. I so can't wait. He said its going to be 12 to 16 weeks so I won't get it until July at the earliest but so excited. Does anyone know what strings Mark puts on the bass or do I need to specify?
  12. Wow, such a highly regarded bass manufacturing and it doesn't look like he's passing it on to anyone. I'm really surprised nobody snaps his business up to keep the brand alive.
  13. Stage left for me as its easier to make eye contact with the drummer, not that it makes any difference with my drummer as he has no understanding of playing together, either with bass or in a band and being a team player. I've actually learnt an amazing skill of tapping my foot to create my own time beat regardless of what the drums are doing. Anyway, stage left as I am more comfortable that side.
  14. Nope, 2eq is the best. Had 2 x 3eq Stingrays and never liked the tone but the 1 x 2eq Stingray I had I loved. Just my opinion and not fact. Nothing wrong with the 3eq so maybe just a bit more time playing with the eq is needed to get the tone you like.
  15. Yeah, this thread has got me thinking about that fact as well. For me it's going to be the following, U2 - Any member of U2 passing will be gutting. They have been such a huge impact on me growing up and a massive influence musicall including professionally. Madonna - My first teenage crush and I adore her first three albums. So raw and she was still awkward with an innocence about her still. Sting - One of the reasons I picked up the bass and one of the reasons I discovered music thanks to my sisters. Pearl Jam - Probably my favourite band and Eddie Vedder is one of my favourite singers.
  16. I tried one of them and compared to my LM3 I had at the time and its is fantastic.
  17. I thing some of the big names artists surprised me and made me stop and think, artists like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Prince, George Michael and David Bowie. However those who I have felt sad for were Michael Hutchence of Inxs, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and very much Mark Hollis of Talk Talk.
  18. Mine is Castle Combe, just love driving that circuit
  19. I've skipped brushing my teeth sometimes when I'm sleepy as I've found that going into the bathroom, turning the light on, doing the whole brushing teeth routine just wakes me up again where as I just want to remain sleepy and try and fall asleep.
  20. Yes, this, I forgot to say that works for me although not podcasts but piano music. If I listen to what I usually like then I can start to get drawn into the music and start analysing it but piano music works really well for me. So I'll listen to ludovico einaudi and Yiruma.
  21. I've suffered with this for as long as I can remember and I am 48. Regardless of being in a band or not, as soon as my head hits the pillow, my mind goes into irrational thoughts and starts processing ideas, thoughts and total nonsense. I can be literally falling asleep in front of the TV or hardly able to keep my eyes open but as soon as my head hits that pillow, my mind switches on. It got so bad that when I went on tour, I would take a bottle of whiskey with me and have a glass before bed to make me sleepy but after a while the glass got bigger and bigger until I was pouring it into pint glasses. At that point I realised it was no longer having any effect. For me sometimes, it's like the day is not long enough so I'm just not tired when it's late. I also tend to become wide awake at around 9pm. I can be sleepy all day but as soon as the evening comes then I wake up and I'm raring to go at 9pm. I put this down to 30 years of gigging so getting up late morning and then gigging in the evening and going to bed in the early hours. I think one of the big factors for me is the change in body clock. I seem very sensitive to any changes in this, even an hour can have a huge impact. I always try and avoid anything too heavy at work on a Monday as chances are I'll have a late night on Friday/Saturday and get up later than a work day on the Sunday. So when I go to bed on Sunday I'm never tired and never sleep much. Sometimes I'll even set an alarm clock on Sunday an hour later than a normal work day just to try and kick start my body clock. I'll be tired all day in the hope I will fall asleep quickly Sunday night but it doesn't always work. I also find that I feel worse and suffer the most with sleep when the clocks change for winter. When they change for spring it's literally like flicking a switch and I feel so much better. More energy, less lethargic, less sleepy and more positive. One thing I try and do during the week is be in bed before midnight. I try and aim for 11pm. Physiologically I'm told that going to before before midnight is telling youself this is the end of the day and if you go past midnight, it can muck you body clock up as you are into the next day. So I don't know what the answer is but I have always suffered with this. I like the idea of not turning lights on before bed as this can re-stimulate you. I'm guilty of doing this so I will give this a try. Oh, and something I read about last week is to not eat a large meal at night, especially carbs as this will release energy slowly when you should be try to sleep. You're better of eating a larger meal at lunch and smaller in the evening.
  22. I found when I ran a LM3 and 2 x MB 112 NY cabs, I ran everything flat but had to dial the bass back to 10 o clock and the low mids back to 11 o clock. Very rarely could I run everything totally flat. Occasionally I would depending on the room so don't give up hope just yet as it might of been the room.
  23. I think you'll find the Elf and BAM are actually 200 watts at 4 ohms so about half at 8 ohms. You'll really want a 4 ohms cab for any live work. Also the BAM is not out yet. It was supposed to be out in April but looks to be set back to August. It might come earlier or it might come later, we just dont know. I'm in the same boat and have been waiting for the BAM but might need to settle for the Elf. TC also do the BH250 and MarkBass make the Nano. Not quite a micro amp but still small.
