[/quote] When the Pistols reformed in '96 Glasto was taking a sabbatical that year so the Sex Pistols played the Phoenix Festival in Stratford instead. Saw half their set which, as much as I grew up loving them, seemed a bit by numbers. Decided that the J.T.Q. who were playing in a nearby marquee might be a better bet. I was right. They had half the crowd on stage and the whole place was dancing their arses off totally having it. Amazing!

Maybe it's a case of the chase being better than the kill? Maybe the statistics prove something and the result will be disappointment? Maybe I'll have cracked the code with this bass. I used Elites Players steels and they had burp a plenty. Had them on there for months and they always sounded good.

In my opinion I would leave the bridge as the original 70's fretless P basses just had a standard bridge and sounded like God I would also leave the electronics as ok, they may be cheaper pots etc than a USA or classic P but they will the same values so if it ain't broke... Pickups - Fender Original. I've had few different types of P pups (including the holy Fralin), and the Fender is amazing for the money. Sounds like all my favourite records. Job done. I'd spend my money experimenting with strings instead. Oh and a good set up by a great tech is always first on the list for me. Good luck!

No bad thing if they are as I have GHS P flats on my hollowbody and they are fantastic, love them (long/light gauge 95-45 which on paper looks a bit odd but they are perfectly balanced and very easy to play - only $24.65 at bassstringsonline.com too! ) Edit: thinking about it, it's probably because JO has jumped ship and joined Dan Lakin on his new venture (new JO sig Jbass) Well done stockpiling a few sets BTW!

Hey Wot, did you have the JO flats you used here anyway as I've just been looking at the Lakland website and it seems they just sell GHS Precision Flats now. Normal gauge. Shame as I wanted to try the custom JO gauge at some point.

F**k the police! (in the nicest possible way of course) this '65 refin really works for me. Plus I don't believe any of us are in a position to tell Pino he's wrong about anything! (I refer to his fiesta red P with tortness of course) Back on topic briefly, I wonder if Limelight would be willing and able to make me a reliced "vintage" 5 string Pbass? A historical folly but it certainly would tick all my boxes.

Yes the Ray34 and Ray35 are very good indeed. So good that they are reasonably hard to pick up second hand. The question then is, do you buy a new Sterling by Music man Ray or a second hand real USA EBMM Stingray for the same price?
