3.
no matter the music genre, there are good and bad music vids, live or other. some taken by a crap phone camera, or by pro cameras and sound equipment. anyways this has got be a favourite of mine. Raphael Saddiq is great, and the singer at 7.45 is off the wall good. its only from my own musical perspective of course, but i like to post music that i reckon is great, and if I'm going post my sh*t i want it to be in the best possible quality.!!!! anyways. here is some great stuff. https://www.youtube....h?v=xDsHJW5E1zk whats your favourite quality music vid.
PS. Seen this a few times before. It is totally badass on so many levels. Great choice!
4. The Doors - Ghost Song. Recorded by the remaining Doors using Jim's poetry as vocals. Bob Glaub serving up some lovely P bass goodness too...(he's not in the vid itself, just on the track - which is ace) The Doors - Ghost Song (Music Video): http://youtu.be/Y3Ja7wDuY9o
5. *Decals sold* Fender Precision top quality waterslide decals. Not inkjet or laser printed. Bought by me from this chap in the states: http://oldfret.com/vintage-precision-bass.htm I bought them for a project that I've had to part out: £10 posted - now sold Pair of P bass flat-top barrel knobs: £5 posted. *Pickguard sold* A brand new Vintage Tony Butler pickguard which still has the protective plastic film on: £6 posted - now sold Cheers.
6. FinnDave I have no idea sorry, wouldn't like to guess. Owen I've pm'd you.
7. Fender HMV bridge. Used but in very good condition and perfect working order. Strings thru or top load option, brass saddles and back plate. Comes with original screws. £40 posted
8. A "they're most excellent and although it might seem a lot, they're brand new, cheaper priced than new chrome Hipshot Ultralites which these Gotohs are superior than and will look much better on your bass while remaining cheaper than anywhere else in this country that might stock them. If you can find them." kind of bump.
9. Sims Custom Shop celluloid tort Precision pickguard. It's a straight fit on vintage spec Fender P's, which I had on a Sims '64 CNC clone body. Comes fully wired up and ready to use in vintage cloth wire, 250k CTS pots, Dimarzio jack socket, Audiophile quality (just because ) AMPOHM 0.047uf paper in wax capacitor and Fender USA vintage spec flat-top heavy knurled brass barrel knobs. Nice! Very little use, part of a project that didn't really come to fruition so I'm parting it all out. 60 Quid's in the Cardiff area or an extra fiver if you want me to post it. Cheers. PS.. The pickguard alone cost £80 from Sims, it has the trussrod notch and comes with the correct screws too.
10.
Thanks so much guys, you are all very kind x I'm not going to join another band for the sake of it though, I'm in two other superb outfits that give me joy, but they don't gig much and there's not much recording to be done. I think I'll see how I feel in a month or two, at the moment I just want to chill. Finding a band with a great vocalist and songwriter who is also motivated, reliable and organised ain't going to be particularly easy
Great to hear you've still got a couple of things going to keep you happy Nige (where do you find the time man?! Haha). You never know though, every change brings new opportunity. Keep your ears down to the jungle drums and listen out for some tasty auditions. They do happen. The best thing about being a decent bassist is walking into a good situation and making it great. Plus you've got the personality to make any band fun mate Best of luck man.
11. Bought an Italia Rimini off Mark and although the initial deal was put on hold due to unforseen circumstances my end. We worked something out and he held it for me while refusing to take a deposit (3 cheers for Basschat trust! Hurrah!!!) It arrived today and boy was it packed well! It's exactly as described and Mark was even good enough to swap the pickups back to their original position for me. Top man and, as already has been said, a true credit to Basschat. Many thanks Mark, been a pleasure. Simon.
12. I actually really like the laminate stripes through the headstock. Reminds me of a Rickenbacker in a way, funnily enough. That bass is a beauty and Nige is right, they do really look good in white and I'm not usually too into white basses.
13. Set of brand new, never used, still boxed Gotoh Res-O-Lite GBR640 traditional reverse wind lightweight tuners for Vintage spec Fender basses (pre-CBS style) I bought and imported them myself from the states for a now aborted custom P project. I found them very hard to find this side of the pond, with Thomann being the only people who had them for £140 (but only the regular GB640's with modern forward wind, not the vintage spec ones) So, a great way to make your reissue, or indeed true vintage Fender even lighter (made from 'duralumin')and more evenly balanced. Cures neck-dive. The all round quality of these tuners is nothing short of amazing. The best available. Luxuriously smooth winding with adjustable tension. **price drop £90** picked up from the Cardiff area but will post Special Delivery for an extra £6. Pics to follow soon but as stated, they are brand new still in the box. Cheers, Simon.
14.
Lol was listening to it this morning on spotify ...what surprised me was how many lines I've stolen from that album as fills. Actually felt a bit guilty.
Don't feel guilty as Jaco himself used to say,"I know where I stole every lick" It's all fair game.
15.
So, you can't know if you will actually get CTS or RSI no matter what technique you use and it could take decades for it to show? So how do we know Carol Kaye isn't going too suffer for her technique in the future? How do we know it's her technique that has kept such problems at bay? Maybe she is just one if the lucky ones that wouldn't have got it even if using a poor technique? Taking such a hard line stance based on just one person seems a bit rash. Unfortunately my Bass history is severely lacking and right now I wish I knew more about other pick players going back as far as Mrs Kaye.
It's not really that the technique is great because she's lasted so long using it with no problems, but more that when you look into it, it's a common sense approach that utilizes the way our hands, wrists and arms are meant to function. It's like you can really tear it up by not putting any stress on anything you shouldn't or by using too much energy to do so. Scott Devine is thinking the same way when he's explaining how he slaps on one of his vids actually.
16. The Carol Kaye pick method is ace for playing insanely fast basslines with ease, laughably so sometimes . Unfortunately it's pretty tricky to do live if your a mobile bass player or just standing up generally (in my experience) unless you have your bass strapped quite high. (I know the argument of having your strap the same length sitting or standing, but I'm 6'1 with long arms) I can see it would be the best way to do it if you're sat down in a studio all day everyday though. Loves the Kaye I do.
