1. That saxophone player with the mullet though
2.
I have a few irons in the fire but I'm just not feeling it lately. I'd like an upright gig but I don't feel good enough to try joining anyone decent yet. Without sounding like an arse I can play it and I'm sure there are many players gigging on elec bass at a similar standard to my upright standard but its a long way off my normal ability on elec bass if that makes sense?
Best thing you could do mate is find someone decent to play your upright with. Just dive in there, it's the only way to improve really.
3.
It was extraordinary. Lovely to meet BC's miles'tone and his friend James, we had a damn good natter and a drinkie, top people! And I bumped into my old drummer, and a geezer from my street A thoroughly splendid and memorable evening. Massive orchestra!
It really was mind blowing, what a sound! Great to meet up with you at last mate - brilliant night! :)
4. Very interesting! Would be a shame if they are no longer in business.
5.
http://www.thebassplace.com/parts-miscellaneous-c-8_26/fender-jazz-bass-mute-kit-p-54
Nice one, good find! Shame they're not adjustable though, looks like when they're on they stay on. If you could get the same kind of individual mutes but adjustable like the ones on the older Stingray bridges then I'd have them on in a shot.

7. Been watching some old Led Zep vids today and noticed something interesting which reminded me of this topic being discussed here. I too always thought JPJ must be mistaken when he said he used Roto rounds even on the earlier tunes, when of course they sound like they're flats... Check out the beginning of this classic early days Dazed and Confused live vid. You can clearly see the stock Fender foam mutes still in situ on his jazz and they are very much engaged on the strings. So yeah, looks like the man himself was right all along.. Roto rounds for his preffered faster attack but with foam mutes heavily applied to give that flats-like fundamental and note decay. Plus he sure is plucking that bass right over the neck as some here previously suggested. Stands to reason he used this set up for what we've all heard on the recordings too I reckon. Love this vid, John Bonham is amazing here too.
8. Moved my reply here to GD as it's probably more appropriate there.
9. Nothing wrong with that, enjoyed it. Some mates having a blast and playing pretty darn tastily. No one here ever play a cover version of a song that's not been quite as good as the original or what?
10. I reckon he's just being tongue in cheek with it. There's actually alot of humour going on within Smiths songs that can elude some people.
11.
Haven't heard that in a while! That was my take on Carol Kaye who's on the original Lalo Schiffrin version. We actually recorded it as a performance in the studio and it was quite a blow!
Oh my! "Gary Crockett on bass!" That solo you take on the live version of Yo-Yo is still one of the best I've ever heard. Both melodic AND thunderous. Plus it keeps everyone dancing! (I too saw you live with JTQ many times, best live band in the country then in my opinion) Bravo, great playing sir I must check out your post JTQ music immediately! (I'm a bit slow keeping up with things to be fair )
12. Kenny bought my Fender Jazz american special neck in a very easy and friendly transaction. He paid instantly and was great to deal with. Cheers Kenny!
13.
Ironic name of the first thread responder I'm guess I'm lucky that our singer is able to sing in the original key, no matter what the song. Handy really, as I'm trying to think where we might apply these capos on her....
Haha! :-D
14. Just completed another great deal with Geoff, selling the bass I bought from him earlier this year back to him. Funny old Basschat He paid instantly and, as before, was an absolute star to deal with. Great comms, friendly and a credit to the forum. I will deal with Geoff again without hesitation (probably when I buy that bass back again next year! ) Cheers Geoff, it's been a pleasure doing business with you once again! Simon.
15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JktycNwNwNg Just found out they played in Cardiff where I live on Saturday. Gutted, would have loved to have gone. I had no idea they were back as I thought Dave had long retired. New album That's What Happens is out end of the month. (Vid above)
16. Cor, I was only thinking the same myself earlier. I found an old live tape this morning and had it on in my van today. Great gig! His bass tone there is as good as it gets in my opinion.
17. Balls! Read this too late and missed it. I love a fistful of dollars.
18. Sold! Well that's worked out nicely (again) Cheers Geoff!
19. Pete bought a nice Gotoh bridge off me this morning in a very easy and friendly transaction. Great comms via PM, and instant payment. A lovely chap to deal with. Thank you Pete!
20. **the price is actually £85 - the £87 above is actually a typo I can't seem to correct.. that's late night posting for you! ** I traded this V4 with Geoff Randombass earlier this year, but unfortunately it never sees any use as I also have a Sims Pbass that gets all the attention so I'm just going to sell this on now. Comes with Wilkinson pickups (which sound great and are lacking nothing - they sound a bit hot if anything) Vintage (as in old style) spec Wilkinson tuners which are always precise and bloody bulletproof to be fair! Vintage (again as in old style) spec bridge with brass saddles. Although used, this bass has no dings or any wear of note and plays really well. It sounds like a good P should and even acoustically it has a quality tone. It also has one of the most comfortable neck shapes I've played on a P, not too wide and not too deep but enough mass to resonate nicely. As you can probably tell I really like this bass! I'm really a fan of Vintage basses and what they offer (I used to own their version of the Jaco reliced fretless J bass which was another killer bass for the money). This isn't like buying a Squier in the same price range where you end up wanting to upgrade the tuners, then the pickups etc etc.. These Vintages are good to go solid workable basses. They just don't have an "F" printed anywhere on them and that will always keep their price down. This V4 comes without a case but will be packed very securely. £85 picked up in the Cardiff area or £100 couriered in mainland Britain via Interparcel. Cheers for looking, Si.
21. I bought this bridge for a project bass which never came to fruition. It is brand new, never used and comes in it's box with the lil packet of screws and allen key (unopened) A perfect for Fender 19mm string spacing, brass saddles (which are nickel plated) £26 posted
22. Yep, that's pretty darn filthy sounding! Think you're right that she's in BEAD and it does sound like a regular Precision too. Her strings look like the bottom 4 from a 5 string set to me. Really enjoyed that Wot, thanks so much for posting (going to check those guys out further too!)
23. Hey everybody. I'm considering tuning my Pbass to BEAD tuning, or possibly CFBbEb I've a vintage spec split P pickup in it at the mo but I'm wondering if it will be up to the job. On a budget right now so can't go buying new pickups really and don't want to spoil my bass! I've been messing around on our old piano and been loving coming up with stuff down the 'dark end' and want that range on my 4 string (love my P and can't afford even a cheap 5 string right now) So, anyone here had any success tuning down so low without installing say a Model P or a SD Quarterpounder or something equally beefy?
24. Tommy Shannon live in '83 with Stevie Ray Vaughan of course as half of Double Trouble. GREAT gig and the bass is mixed really well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smSiCjYIvrM
