1.
You can't play blues bass any better than Tommy Shannon. It doesn't take monstrous technique, just the right feel, tone and note choices.
Absolutely!
2. The Lemon Song on Led Zeppelin II will rock your socks off.
3. I fancied doing the same thing to a Squier Classic Vibe 50's P, with a push/pull pot for series/parallel. A jazz sounds fat and even more growly in series so I bet one of these would sound immense!
4. Didn't Justin Meldal-Johnston produce the album? No surprises the bass sounds epic
5. This thread has prompted me to dig out BB after not really getting on with it many years ago just to see. To me now it sounds rather like melodic and instrumental fragments from In A Silent Way trying to fight for their place within a fox hunt. To a shuffle beat. Some of it I like, some of it makes my teeth sweat to be honest.
6. I happily stand corrected
7. Wow! The all black no-nonsense look here is exactly what I have often dreamed about when the day comes when I can actually afford to put in my own order to Wal (It's way up there on the bucket list) Sadly that day is not today. I don't blame you for increasing the price as what you have it listed for now is pretty much what you'll pay for a new one with these specs but without the 17 month wait. I expect a serious Wal shopper will show up soon rubbing his/her hands together with glee at the chance to not wait a year and a half for one. Best of luck with the sale of this stunning bass.
8. Hi all. Owen has a mate who is going to pick it up for him but if anything changes I'll let you guys know for sure. Thanks alot for asking. Si.
9. A Ric 4001 seems to have been designed especially for the job as they hurt just actually playing them. If you happened to drop that thin weighty beast on your head it wouldn't mess around with just dislodging teeth, it would just carry on going and simply embed itself in your skull. A very 'blunt instrument' indeed.
10. Owen, you're first in line now mate as Mike can't make it now. Over to you..

12. Hi Owen. You're second in line I'm afraid as mikegrovesmusic got in touch early this morning by pm. If anything changes I'll let you know. (Sorry for the late reply, just got in) Cheers, Si.
13. Praxis Makes Perfect by Neon Neon. I went to see the show earlier this summer. It was a gig/360 degree theatrical show that the whole crowd was in/history and politics lesson..and freedom fighting rock n roll! Best and most original show I've ever seen The album is great.
14. 2 × 12" black widow speakers. Looks scruffy, works fine. I have no use for it anymore and I need the space. I'm in the Cardiff area if you want it.
15. Get some fat flatwounds on that Pbass, a piece of foam under the bridge to mute it a bit. Roll a bit of treble off now while increasing the bass until it sounds sweet. Don't be afraid to crank up the volume either.
16. Cheers Greggo, mucho appreciated! I really am tempted, shame I can't try one first but it is alot of bass for the money (as all Vintages are it seems) so not too worried about buying unseen. Cheers again mate and good luck with your further mods!
17. Wow, that's great thanks Greggo! I can't download your track on my phone for some reason so I'll check it out on the pc tomorrow at home. Cheers! What's the weight like on your bass? I'm hoping they're lighter than the MM Stingrays (a deciding factor in the sale of my own Stingray - great bass, weighed a ton). My Vintage V4 Pbass weighs 8 3/4 lbs and the Vintage V96 Jaco fretless Jbass I had weighed around the same (I agree, wonder why they changed the model names around? Confusing indeed!) Seems the eastern poplar is a good sounding and light tonewood. Thanks again!
18. Yes, the Yamahas look great value, especially second hand (£100ish quid for a bbn5!) Thanks! This vid is what is drawing me to the Vintage. Can't understand what he's saying mind, but I can hear in there a nice honky tone that I could really get on with methinks. Wish he'd used the B a bit more though. Funnily enough this is a stingray copy that sounds less harsh than a stingray. I like that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZuCHuX2das
19. Thanks for the input. I've just been looking at Squiers and the Active V Deluxe looks great. Full 19mm string spacing too! It really is mindblowing how cheap decent basses are these days.
20. The fact Mani has been touring the world playing them with The Stone Roses says enough to me about how good they are. Black!!
21. Hey everyone. Does anybody own or have you played one of these basses? If so, how have you found the B string? Is it up to the job? I'd like to get an inexpensive 5er you see and I've been very impressd with the two Vintage basses I've had, and I miss having a MM vibe at hand since I sold my Stingray a while ago. They are cheaper than the SBMM SUB 5, and I trust that the Trev Wilkinson electronics and hardware are up to his usual standards (read of some people having probs with the SUB's pre - farty distortion etc..) So, any good anyone?
22. Wow that's amazing! A true labour of love. I adore these recordings, thank you so much for sharing all your hard work!
23. Sounds too good to be true... You know the rest.
24. Congratulations!! A great design you did there. Go Basschat! :)
