No Gas Gear - what have you never thought of replacing?

I never think about replacing any gear until I suddenly do. Nothing is safe. -

Never played one but I've always thought that these have the best shade and sparkle of orange ever to grace a bass. Just right. (Orange is my favourite colour btw 😊) -
Yes it's all about the moisture content.

Iconic bass-lines for aspiring bass players!
miles'tone replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I Am The Resurrection by The Stone Roses. It's definitely iconic for those, like me, who came of age during that time (especially the bass break which has been sampled a lot). Seeing the Roses was what inspired me to buy a bass in the first place so this one is kind of my ground zero. It's a perfect song (to me). -

Totally with you there, and been there too. Like the Beach Boys said, "I just wasn't made for these times". This made me laugh and sums up my own relationship with "Tech". *mucho swearing alert*... https://www.facebook.com/share/v/15RSjfTYm3/ -

Playing basslines on the Baritone Saxophone

My kids love the soundtrack to this and I think I prefer this brass/wind low end version of Uptown Funk to the original. Apart from the chipmunks 😄 -

Donna Lee? I kid! Sounds like a great idea, also interested in what other instruments you'll be playing with. -
Great vid here by Tony Franklin on why he plays unlined rather than lined. It's all good but go to 3.30 for his reasoning and demo...

Yes, mute the strings with your fingerboard hand and spend some time focusing on just your picking hand, eyeballing it as you do. Alternate picking on each string, then when you can do that accurately, try going between B&A, E&D, A&G (like you would play octaves), again alternate picking as you go (1+2+3+4+ on each string at first). When you can do that accurately and consistently with minimum hand movement, mix it up how you feel like. This will help internalise the new string spacing which is what we all trip up on at first, picking especially. Won't take too long. Have fun, it's a good game!

You mean drop the B down to A# so you're still playing all the strings dropped down a half-step? Yes, if that's what you're used to I reckon!

After owning the 4 string, I'd plump for a used Yamaha BB605. The Nathan East preamp is sick.

Sierra Ferrell - Trail Of Flowers has been a welcome highlight. She's the real deal, and has an old soul from another time. Love her. Gruff Rhys - Sadness Sets Me Free. It came out at the beginning of the year but is still on repeat in my car, setting me free. A beautiful record.

Sorry, couldn't resist ☺️

Looks like there's one still inside peeking out of the grill.

Ben bought a Höfner and some bits off me. Nice easy deal with a great Basschatter. Cheers Ben 👍

Thanks Ruby, that's tonight's viewing sorted then! Much appreciated 🙂

Thanks for all your stories and suggestions guys, I really appreciate it. I'm going to go at it the traditional way and put the time in. Playing by feel and ears is where I want to be anyway. Using the side dots wasn't a problem at first because I was always standing side on, playing Rockabilly. It did become a problem later on when I was playing (ahem...bluffing) some jazz gigs as it led to some nasty neck and shoulder pain as mentioned above. I'm loving the Discover Double Bass youtube channel - there's plenty of great lessons on there to keep me busy. Cheers!
