  1. I have an upright that I've not played at all for many years. I used to play out with a band and got by with using side dots. Now I'm keen to start again and learn "properly" without the side dots, but I'm considering using some small dabs of nail varnish for my thumb to feel on the back of the neck to help me learn the different positions. Is this a done thing or has anyone else here used this method? Is it cheating? Makes kind of sense to me though! Looking forward to your thoughts and experience... Cheers.
  2. Great 👍
  3. As the title says... light home use only a handful of times. Another project gathering dust. Extras are: Pyramid Gold flats fitted. Zero Glide zero fret conversion nut (not fitted). Genuine Höfner Germany ebony bridge (not fitted). Höfner Germany Artist gigbag. Includes original case candy (complete with the stickers) and the unused original pickguard. You're looking at about £160 worth of extras here. £260 posted
  4. 😄 I once had an Avenger that had a Rover V8 gear knob that I acquired from a scrappy. At the time I was convinced it felt like it made it go faster 😂
  5. Actually, that sounds like my dream bass! I love a fat neck, especially with the 70s nut widths. My old '65 was a serious bass of doom but given the choice (one day..) a narrower neck lightweight 70s P would be the one ('72 to tick the YOB thing while I'm at!)
  6. Nice basses. I believe Jamiroquai is Jay Kay and whoever he chooses to hire. Since the now late Mr. Smith left in 2002 anyway.

  8. That's a good enough excuse for a new bass as any 😄
  9. Shame, but at least you have a band again. There'll be other gigs.
  10. Have a look at some 80s MIJ Tokai Jazz Sound basses. They are up there with the older MIJ Fenders. Great basses.
  11. D'addario 5 string black tapes are great and low tension. Perfect for an ABG I would think. They last forever too.
  12. Reminds me of being a youngster running up some stairs to catch a train...my pointy headstock Westone actually cut its way out of the top of my gigbag and slammed into a step, snapping off said pointy bit. I liked it better afterwards to be honest! 😄 @Steve Browning my current bass is fairly new so nothing to report so far (won't be long knowing me).
  13. Iris was my mum's name ❤️ I hope wee Iris and the fam get sorted with this soon @AndyTravis Nice one @Clarky 👊
  14. All I can offer is to frequent the open mics around your way. You'll always meet new people and new people bring new opportunities. Never say never 😉

  16. Your memory?
  17. Sweet serendipitous score! A 'Ki0gan' loom (fellow basschatter) with series/parallel push-pull vol pot ftw! 👊
  18. Congrats mate, Looks ace! That finish looks superb 👌 Nothing wrong with poplar btw. I used to have an American Ernie Ball Stingray that had a poplar body. That bass killed! Happy NBD 🙂
  19. Same. First thing that comes to mind is seeing them perform their new single "Your Missus Is A Nutter" at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff before Wales took on England way back. They dedicated it to David Beckham who, whenever he got the ball that evening, the Welsh crowd would chant, "Your Missus Is A Nutter!!" at him. Fun times! 🤣🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
  20. Great stuff. I'll be doing something similar myself as, during a good clear out of bass bits and bobs, I discovered a Lollar P pup that I'd completely forgotten about...Well, it would be rude not to!
  21. Formal: I learnt how to construct any chord by understanding what intervals they are made of (not as hard as it might sound). I can, in at least the simplest of ways, play anything with anyone and bulls**t my way through a chord chart now 😄. Informal: If you can sing it, you can play it.
  22. Rod bought a bass body and neck off me. Perfect transaction, lovely chap. Thanks Rod!
  23. Don't be that sound guy. You're better than that.
  24. I must try this as my fatigue is driving me mad. Glad it's working for you. Might go for Welcome To The Jungle 😁
