  1. They are a different shape due to the deeper treble bout cut-away. A custom pickguard starts at around 50 quid so it's either keep it as is or paint the existing one. The tort is growing on me a bit now.
  2. Let us know how you get on!
  3. It came from the factory new like that I believe. Interestingly, it never received a nitro clearcoat which is why the blue didn't turn greeny (the metallic paint used at that time wasn't nitro so it didn't yellow on it's own).
  4. Yup, the upper fret access is great. A welcome improvement 👍
  5. A bit heavier then but kind of average for a J. They usually do come in heavier than Ps though don't they. Other than it feeling a bit heavy, are you happy with it generally?
  6. Still waiting for the call from Noel but I'll report back soon 😄 I've been without a P Bass for a year and a half since I had to sell my 1965 Precision (Excalibur!...). That was "The One". Unfortunately, being otherwise skint and our house needing serious repairs, I had to cash in my chips there. The grieving process has now run it's course (sniff..) and I sorely missed having a P. This jet is a great bass and the fact it was so inexpensive is the cherry.
  7. Yes it is, really pleased with that fact Marc.
  8. Cheers Marc!
  9. Funky Monks - Chilis
  10. Just weighed it. In new money it's 3.7kg (which is 8.157lbs). I took a couple of very rubbish photos before I left for work (my elderly phone has a rather crap and colour-shy camera). It looks far nicer in real life! I've just noticed that the roasted neck has both flame and birdseye in the maple. It has that nice 3D effect when you move it in the light. You'll have to take my word for that though!
  11. Gutted.
  12. The tort is alright, it's not ugly as faux tort can be by any means. It's just I don't think it's a great match with sherwood green. Personal preference that's all. I'll get around to it eventually but I'm not in a rush. I haven't weighed it yet but from experience I'd say it'll be 8 1/2 lbs max, probably a bit less.
  13. Really pleased with this one (my own pics and a more detailed review to follow...) £340 from Stompbox on ebay using a very handy 10% off eBay voucher which popped up. Great bass! The fit and finish is superb. It's lightweight (not too much to feel neck divey) very resonant thanks to the roasted body and neck, it feels "alive" and sounds really funky. No dead spots, every note is true and clear. The tuners are good quality and have a decent and smooth ratio to them. Simple functional bridge (it's a P Bass) that is good quality. I don't know if the pickups are ceramic or alnico but I'm happy with them. What I'm not so keen on: The tort guard (will be spraying that parchment) While the fretwork is flawless and mirror polished, I can feel the fret end "bumps" (there's no sharp fret ends whatsoever) it's just I prefer a more 45° angle to them, probably because I'm used to vintage basses with hardly any frets left! I've got a chrome bridge cover to go on it for my muting foam to live and a set of TI flats at the ready. More deets to follow next week as I'm working this weekend. Just thought I'd give an early shout out as I've not seen the Jet P mentioned yet. I dived straight in when I saw it due to the favourable Jet J chats I read on here. Same goes for this baby... https://jetguitars.com/guitars/bass-guitar/jet-jpb-300-sg-r/
  14. It was when some lads I knew who had already been in a few local bands knocked the door. They had heard I was learning and that I possessed a bass and an amp. "We've got a gig in a fortnight and need a bass player...want to do it?" "Yes. Cool. Great. Thanks!" Being bowled over with excitement while all also shi..ing your pants is a very unique feeling 😆 We practiced everyday and it went surprisingly well! They were pretty good musicians which helped, and they could draw a crowd. The club was packed. I hadn't even played with anyone else other than a mate in his bedroom a couple of times. I'd been teaching myself by playing along to records for about 18 months and no way thought I was good enough to even think about joining a band. Luckily I was thrown into it. Played out with them for 2 years. Learned a lot. The joys of growing up in a small Welsh town. If you can make it through a song you're ready to play with a band. That's where you really learn. Just by doing it.
  15. Tonerider "The Duke" pickups are the same specs for a hundred quid less. Just a thought
  16. I struggled to make certain sounds. Mostly, "no, I don't need a new bass". 😄
  17. They always were semi motionless in the 90s so it will be business as usual!

    FCS P-bass

That was great! Ain't no day like new bass day. Well thought out specs too. Very cool bass. Fingers crossed for a Squier version ☺️
  19. Sea Shanty - The Pogues
  20. Most of these comments seem to be stuck in the 90s. I've got a lot of time for present day Liam. He's matured well, grown up even, is funny as hell and for a good few years now has been one of the hardest working men in show business. He's consistently put out good solo albums and is always either on the road or in the studio. He takes care of both himself and his voice these days. I'm a bit disappointed that the reunion is happening now as I was hoping that, after his current Definitely Maybe anniversary tour, he'd get to work on a second album with John Squire and keep moving forwards. Noel's solo output has never grabbed me in comparison. To me, an Oasis reunion seems like a step backwards for Liam.
  21. I meant that a genuine smile is from the eyes and face. Teeth? I could definitely pass the audition for a Pogues tribute band. Still got my fronties though thankfully 🤓
  22. Nah, I prefer to age naturally with my million dollar smile intact.
  23. Nice! A very useful looking machine.
  24. Congratulations. It's a beaut.
