  1. The too hot problem with the early SBMM SUB 'Rays lay with the preamp not the pickup btw.
  2. Sorry just read this. It's 1 5/8" so around a B width Fender P neck if that makes sense. The neck profile is lovely and comfy too.
  3. Here's my nearly new Guild Starfire 1 bass for sale. Walnut finish. I bought it new earlier this year, it's never left the house and to be honest I've barely played it (house renovations have eaten all my fun time this year). I payed extra for gigbag as they don't come with a case. Also I'm throwing in the new set of medium scale Labella flats that I bought for it but didn't have time to install. It's a shortscale bass btw but because of the bridge design it requires medium scale strings. There's a push/pull volume knob for series/parallel options with the pickup. *edit - £400 includes shipping Couple of vids to give you an idea of what it sounds like:

  4. Up for sale is a beautiful Tacoma Thunderchief acoustic bass. It's a top of the range CB28C made in 2006. As you may know, Tacoma instruments were hand made (in Tacoma USA) by highly skilled luthiers who used only the highest grade materials. Now Tacoma instruments are no more this is quite a rarity. It is very loud acoustically, and loud with a divine tone to boot. Sounds great through the preamp too. It has a top grade spruce top, gorgeous flame maple sides, a stunning quilt maple back and tort binding throughout (looks real deal celluloid tort to me but can't be sure - looks great anyway). This particular bass was an artist custom order, the artist in question being John Cowan - a big name in Nashville who also recorded and toured with The Doobie Brothers back in the day. It comes with a letter of provenance from John himself. You can hear him playing this bass here: At some point in it's life this bass has had a neck repair near the headstock but this doesn't affect it's playability and it holds tune perfectly. The 9th fret on the G string is a little high so there is a buzz there. It came to me like that but I never got around to getting it levelled unfortunately. I've owned it for 2 years but have to sell it and a couple of other basses due to needing to release some funds for a custom build that will be finished in a few weeks. Oh, it comes with the original Tacoma hardcase and catalogue from 2006. Also there is the receipt of sale from the store in Nashville where the second owner bought it in 2009. New, a CB28C Thunderchief bass was over $2000 and this one has custom inlays and the quilt back so a bit more than that I expect. I bought it 2 years ago for £680 all in so in the spirit of Basschat I just want to get that back. I may be seriously underpricing myself but it's hard to know how to price it to be honest! It's a work of art for sure, but I get that it's a niche work of art. I love it but it has to go to a new home now. £680 shipped (it will be packaged extremely well!)
  5. The USA SLO Special Stingrays from a few years ago had narrow slim necks.

  7. Might need a wee fret dress?
  8. Probably lifted the photos from a genuine for sale ad elsewhere.
  9. Stax and Motown. It's the best medicine for existential crisisitis.
  10. Looks like a Fender Original to me. Used to have one. Good pickup.

  12. Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos - Public Enemy "… I got a letter from the government the other day"
  13. I listen to the song enough times so I know it in my head and can sing or scat the bassline. I'll maybe also write down some notes for myself regarding the form of the tune if needed (not musical notation notes btw) When I eventually put my hands on my bass it comes easily. For me, learning tunes this way really takes away all that frustration of trying to learn both how the tune goes and it's bassline at the same time.
  14. Sorted for E's & Wizz - Pulp
  15. Send them a message on Facebook or Instagram and pick up the trail! I'd do the same to find my old bass if I knew where to start...
  16. An early Ernie Ball 2 band Stingray ("StingrayBass" decal, headstock trussrod bolt, 4 bolt neck...) , trans red, rosewood board, finish worn through on the forearm contour with lots of dings and chips around the bottom, modded it at The Bass Centre in Wapping and had a Basslines Hot Jazz neck pickup installed along with the input moved to the underside of the body. Pots were vol/vol/treble/bass. It had a nice bit of flame to the neck too. It was the bass I cut my gigging teeth on around London during the 90s, sold it to cover rent in 2002. I don't have any pics of it unfortunately but there is a great live video knocking around in someone's attic but we're long out of touch. Hit me up if you own it or know of it's whereabouts. I sold it to a couple of guys who were opening a new studio at the time. That's all I can remember. Also it was pretty bloody heavy! Great bass though.

  19. I've gone for mapleglo but with a personalised trc and tailpiece...to be revealed! 😄 Cheers Maude 👊
  20. Cheers for that mate. Good to hear. I am on that journey now so I will soon find out if it's for me (ETA roughly 8 weeks from now). I'm not in a band at present so it's just for me doing my thing at home or out at a rehearsal room with friends for a free jam. I like playing a mix between dubby stuff fingerstyle and folky banjo melodies with a pick so I should be good (on paper, in my head 😄) I've gone for the Retrovibe '69 something pickups. They can be individually wired in series so that should be interesting. Can't wait! A 4005 is my last bucket list bass to own and the first bass I ever wanted. Seeing Mani playing one with The Stone Roses way back was what made me want to play bass in the first place. Will do a NBD when I've given it a good go. Cheers!
  21. Just checking in to see how life with your 4005 (tribute) has worked out for you as I'm hopefully going to be on the same journey...
  22. Shocking news! This will be the end of albums having A sides and B sides. I don't like the sound of this. I may be wrong, but I feel we're on a slippery slope here!
  23. The dopemine rush of acquisition > the joy of ownership. It's a trick, watch out!
