1. This ^ As long as you've got an internet connection you're sorted. SO many songs to download off their forums. And super useful when you wanna transpose It's also great for playing along to the jazz standards, tells you each scale to use for each chord. Real useful.
2. UE Boom 2. Fantastic.
3. Try iRealPro for that! The app is fantastic as well. And a huuuuuge library of songs.
4. Send this over to the Transcriptions Page, that'll be handy! Look forward to seeing more! Also, may I suggest, instead of chords, maybe using the Nashville Number system would be really useful. So that one chart can be used, no matter the key :-)
5. That's fair enough, but like you mentioned, you need to have a pretty good case and it'll be fine :-)
6. No one would dare put anything on top of it, with the mono tick attached there just is not room. Had mine at the back of the locker and a guitar in front.
7. Recently flew to a gig in Paris from Gatwick using Easyjet, and had no problems getting my bass on. In a mono case with also the mono tick attached. I found that as long as you're first in the queue you're fine. Myself and the guitarist had no problems and had them both in the overhead lockers.
8. Load em up guys, I would also love to see these! Such a great song.
9. Nothing better than turning up to a gig with a DI and running IEMS. Sounds fantastic, and takes about 30 seconds to set up and pack down.
10. Give Chris a shout, he is most helpful.
11. Thanks for the info dude. The only thing was, on the Interference light, it was only at the bottom, indicating that the signal was okay. No metal structures in the way of me either. Was a huge event, big Shure antenna//masts things were deployed as we were all running IEMs. I just turn up and take the pack so have no idea of configuration.
12. hmm. Well it was in a huge venue, lots of cameras, everything was wireless e.t.c You guys are making me think twice about it. Maybe I'll email Chris and see what his thoughts are. Thanks guys :-)
13. Used it in Paris last weekend, sounded great, but was dropping out when out of sight, which is expected. Was a huge stage with a walkway going into the crowd, but was getting lost at the very end. Anyone know the max distance it is meant to go? Also any ideas on how to replace the sticky pad, had some issues with it. But apart from that, I love going wireless. It's great, also setting up the Smoothound was so easy.
14. Ringos drumming was just perfect. Go listen to Rain, or the newly released Sgt Peppers with just the instrumental tracks, lovely stuff.
15. Finally purchased one of these! Looking forward to trying it out.
16. Pelco for gear/accessories I've got a bass flight case which I wanna sell- although the foam is cut out for a P-bass. I couldn't be arsed taking a flight case when I went abroad, so I use my Mono m80 and that is fine.
17. Got this set-up as well. Along with my Aguilar SL rig, I can travel super light. Even better when I don't need a cab and just DI all evening. So much easier.
18. Man, thats nuts. Awesome rhythm reading dude.
19. Thanks man, loving the Cannonball Adderly tune.
20. Can I ask, may I see a pic of the case, looking to get a custom case for my SL112!
21. I have the M80 Vertigo. It is fantastic. It's been around the world with me (working on ships), on planes, in vans e.t.c and it hasn't got a mark on it. The Vertigo is worth getting, so much protection on the strap pin its great. Couldn't recommend it enough.
22. Just had my P-Bass re-fretted from these guys: http://www.eternal-guitars.com/basses Based near Chichester. Had a Re-fret, a new pot, electrics cleaned, new strings and a 1 inlay replacement. Came to around £300.
23.
Lots of big name professional artists performing original material use deps on every gig, they are called musicians!
This.
24.
Thanks for 'going on', John! This is an interesting checklist for me as I have my first (proper) dep gig coming up on Sat and I'm still a bit concerned about a couple of the things on your list. In particular, song arrangements. They are all Rolling Stones covers, one or two in different keys which they have told me of in advance and I'm fine with. It's just the arrangements I'm concerned about. If they are exactly as per the original recording then fine, but if they suddenly chuck in an extra chorus or do a longer/shorter intro then I'll need to be on my toes! Also how are they ending the ones that fade out on recordings? Plus I still don't know the estimated start time. Just been told we're 'last on'. Also been told 'don't worry, have fun, it's just a charity gig'. I'm not really comfortable with that attitude - there is still an audience there who are going to want to enjoy it. I don't expect they'll mind if I don't sound exactly like Bill Wyman, but I think they might notice if I'm still playing a final chorus when the rest of the band have stopped, lol! :-) Having said all that, I'm still looking forward to it. I was really pleased to be asked (I previously played in a different Stones covers band and sax player who is in both bands recommended me). And I love playing all those old Stones hits, so as long as I turn up at the right place and time I think I can probably wing it!!! :-)
Mate, it never goes wrong. With Dep gigs, just look at the drummer. All the time, beginning and end, then you're fine. I don't do pubs as I can't live off them, but functions/weddings/originals I can and dep on these as a Job. It's my role as a session player that's all.
I do wonder what percentage of an audience would be able to tell (or care) if a band member was deputising for another...Front person aside....let alone notice any musical nuance a dep brought.
Never really. Like I said the majority of agency gigs on the weekends are just 4/5 guys chucked in a band together to play the standard wedding setlist. Everyone loves it, everyone is happy. Everyone gets paid. :-)
25.
I have a dep gig on Saturday. I've done a few dep gigs in my time, some gigs where no member of the band has met before.
Ha! Too many times this has happened to me. Bloody agencies. Always awkward when the bride or groom come over and say they've seen us before that's why they hired us
