  1. I’m a bass player. If my band is making a recording you’re damn right I’m playing on it. How can I get any pleasure from the finished product otherwise? A wee bit of minor copy / paste is ok in my book for the sake of expedience but it will be me playing nevertheless.
  2. I bought a Concorde used in 1982 I think. Brilliant bass. That thing has been through hell, including a cracked headstock and me setting it on fire. Still play it, still love it.
  3. EBay. Cheap as chips.
  4. My own damn breathing cos I can't bloody well sleep. Again.
  5. PIL. A truly memorable night.
  6. Is tennis grip tape the best way to combat neck dive / strap slippage?
  7. He was and is one of my 2 favourite bass players, the other being JJ Burnell. I don’t care if he didn’t have all the technical wizardry prized by some these days: the man is a dude.
  8. Iron Maiden! They were absolutely outstanding, ably supported by Killswitch Engage. A fantastic night.
  9. Chron Gen - Chronic Generation. Bit of nostalgia!
  10. Update: I raised a PayPal dispute and suddenly, still with no communication of any kind, my order arrived today. Obviously the dispute was the impetus needed to get them shifted. I doubt I'll use them again though. Shame.
  11. Bugger. Placed a £20 order with them 3 weeks ago and I’ve seen / heard nothing. I’ve emailed them and tried phoning , to no avail. Did not know they had gone so downhill. Think I’ll have to raise a PayPal dispute.
  12. Gary Numan in Belfast last night. Absolutely brilliant. Support by Nightmare Air who I’d not previously heard but who were excellent. Black Label Society next...
  13. The production isn’t great but the music is blisteringly intense. Another favourite is Paul Simonon.
  14. Whatever fires your engines dude but personally I’m not a fan. I’m sure it sounds and feels beautiful though.
  15. I’ve an iPad Air and an irig knock-off. Use AmpliTube into GarageBand and it’s fine for practice and for jotting ideas down. Quality isn’t great but that really doesn’t matter for what I use it.
  16. Ali McMordie of SLF is another great from back then - check out Gotta Get Away. One of the earliest lines I learned though was Warhead.
  17. Quite. Some of those really expensive ones are the worst offenders.
  18. Agreed. So many ugly headstock designs. Ones I like are Schecter, Spector, Ibanez. Dislike big blocky things, pointy things and overly elaborate things.
  19. Have a look at the Dr J series of bass pedals from Joyo. I got the Sparrow DI and think it's excellent. Nice gritty overdrive with the added advantage of a DI pedal. No loss of low end. http://www.joyoaudio.co.uk/DR.J-Guitar-Effect-Pedals If you want fuzz or really heavy distortion, try the Little Bear which is a Woolly Mammoth clone. Fantastic, built like a tank and cheap as chips. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Little-bear-BS1-Wool-pinch-Bass-fuzz-guitar-pedal-Stomp-Box-effects/401469585187?hash=item5d7973b723:g:94oAAOxyrrpTffxM
  20. Two beautiful basses. The Spector is particularly stunning - would love one of those.
  21. Cool idea. Good luck.
  22. Loved their first album. RIP.
  23. We used to have a certifiably nuts neighbour who complained about everything (really, everything) especially our cats. It got so bad I used to dread coming in from work in case of a confrontation. It was a little old lady with obvious issues so we just got on with things as best we could. We did get some petty revenge one drunken night by taking all her plant pots and placing them in different gardens up and down the road. Felt great When she finally left it was paradise! Good neighbours are invaluable, trust me.
  24. Proper bloke is JJ. Not a man to trifle with. Also, one of the chief reasons I picked up a bass in the first place.
