As regards PA, I would say invest in finding a good, local hire company. Running a good rig and more importantly getting the best sound out of it is a huge investment in time, money and effort. Since we started hiring we have never looked back. To be 'professional' you at least need a separate engineer, so why not let them hump the gear and get it all set-up for you too? It makes gigs so much less of a chore.
I have great memories of mountain biking in the desert west of Tucson, and of going up Mt Lemmon. Also of exploring places like Flagstaff and Globe. Nice part of the USA. Mike E.
Eeh, guess what I was doing a few weeks ago! Celebrity Gear - once used by the famous
Ba55me15ter replied to Born 2B Mild's topic in General Discussion
I sold my Telecaster bass to him out of It Bites.
Wow - I used to love them. Saw them down at the Riverside - one of the best gigs I've ever been to. Dick Nolan is a great (and under-rated) groove player. In fact they're back with an album and touring this year - Newcastle Academy on the 1st Oct. My Kubicki Factor used to belong to some bloke who went on to play for George Michael amongst others. It also has a Willis Ramp fitted by the man himself while the previous owner was at B.I.T. (I believe!). -
Oh by the way, Mr Gregg of Greggs fame's brother used to be my headmaster if that helps!

I have the PJB Briefcase, and it is the best-sounding amp I have used. That's only as a practice amp mind you, I wouldn't put it up against a drum kit. The tone is just so...I dunno, rounded? The amp is only let down by the compressor which I find a little agricultural, but for practice who cares and for recording I've studio-grade stuff to do the job. I used to use an AH250/4x10 - I got rid of the cab cos it was just too damn heavy, but I still have the head as a back-up for my Mark Bass SA450 (haven't needed it for a while!). I mostly just use a plastic JBL Eon 15" cab as a monitor these days, and the rest goes through the desk.
So I'm not the only one then! - Which model do you have and what do you think of it? I bought both the Suitcase and the 4B from Guitar Guitar in Newcastle. I think the guy's name was Steve - he seems to really know his stuff and some of the basses in that shop are most desirable. I was viewing one of the amp threads, where folks have posted photos of their rigs. There are some fantastic rigs amongst them; I used to play through a Trace AH350SMX head and 4 x 10 cab myself, but I honestly couldn't stand the hassle of carting it all around now. The PJB stuff gives me all the bottom end I want.
I'm sure our paths will cross at some point - I've not forgotten you once offered to dep should the need arise! Anybody attending the gig should be aware that the band is currently ravaged with disease and would do well not to get too near to the stage tomorrow night! Let's just say the atmosphere was, er, rather thick by the end of rehearsal last night. In fact we should probably have bio-hazard tape cordoning off the area. As Freddie once said, the show must go on...
Unfortunately you are competing with Gogol Bordello @ the Carling and due to having bought tickets in advance they win I will get to check out some other BCers playing one day... one day! Have a good one.
We're back at Mr Lynch on Friday for our regularish spot. Now 100% Robbie-free (assuming I can stop puking and get to rehearsal tonight). Please note they now start charging entry at 10pm, not 10.30pm as it used to be. First set is 9.30pm. BM

Another greeting from a fellow Geordie (and fellow PJB owner!)

Abba - Money Money Money If you listen closely there are some really fantastic slides and stuff going on behind the 'all the things I could do....' bit. Lovely.

Importances of learning scale forms
Ba55me15ter replied to EmmanuelFolo's topic in Theory and Technique
That's like saying "What's the importance of learning words and grammar if I want to learn to speak?" - music is a language and learning scales will create the means by which you can join things together, and 'say' things that make sense.
Hmm, bit of a lousy metaphor. Millions of people can speak and communicate perfectly well having never formally studied their own language. In fact in this country the opposite is often true - innit like! -
Hi chaps, thanks for the good wishes. It's a small musical world around here isn't it! It was strangely quiet night last night - if we hadn't taken along a good crowd ourselves it would have been pretty dead. The taxi driver said as much too, I think everybody was out getting wasted on Friday. For me, I did the annual reminding of myself that I can't play after a few beers! (I don't think anyone really noticed!) Merry Christmas to you all! Cheers, Jez.

Kinda quirky. I liked it.

Hear ye, hear ye, get thee down to ye olde Mr Lynch in Jesmond for a most agreeable Yuletide evening of music supplied by the fine musicians of Spangler, who shall play popular contemporary rock, pop and soul music for your aural pleasure. Fine wines, beers and spirits will be available for the purchase of until the hour of two of the morning. Act one shall begin at nine thirty, and so long as though hasten to be there before ten thirty entrance to the establishment shall be complementary. Greetings of the season to you all!

+1 what Ped said. The whole longer=better thing is a myth in my experience.

You won't go wrong with the Yammy TRB5 that's on the classifieds at the mo. (not mine!) As has been reported recently - it's a buyer's market!

Does anybody make what I want? All my gigs are PA-supported, so all I need is a monitor. I'm a great believer in having a cab on the floor close to you actually pointing at your head, as opposed to a conventional cab blowing air past your ankles / arse. I also like relatively uncoloured cabs which give me a reasonable reflection of what's going out FOH. At the moment I'm using a JBL Eon 15 PA cab powered by a Mark Bass SA450, and this actually does a very good job. However, it would be nice to have something a little more compact and perhaps a bit lighter. Does anybody know of a full-range 12" neo cab in wedge format?
I was going to load Cubase onto my PC, but I've got two different versions to choose from. I already had VST 32 5, which is an old version, but my Lexicon Alpha came packaged with Cubase LE, which is a cut down, but newer version... Which should I use?
I'd go LE. It has a lot more in common with the more recent versions, and is pretty well-featured to get you going. Alternatively, check out Reaper.
