I was watching that for ages and decided against bidding. Starting to get pangs of regret! It was pretty messed-up though. I emailed the guy and he said there were some nicks on the neck too which would bother me more.

I wrote a little app to help with last-minute/second bidding. See what you think - I use it all the time! I generally wait until about 5 secs on the clock... I also have the M&S cover, funnily enough I also have expensive mountain bikes! The standard cover was comparable with other insurers (house+contents), and the 'away from home' addition (the important bit) was an extra 80 quid I think. Miles cheaper than specialist music / bike insurance. I haven't had to claim (and hope never to!), but so far I think it's a great deal.

I have a TRB6, TRB5II and BB1500A. The TRB6 oozes class and build quality and has the punchiest gut-pounding bottom-end of any of my basses. Slightly hissy electronics, but not noticeably so in most situations. The TRB5II feels slightly inferior in build and resonance, but still delivers great tone. The BB1500A is simply the dog's. Jazz-style playability with more flexible active tone (if you like that kind of thing, which I do). Just seems to sit perfectly in a mix. Slapper's delight!

The original TRBs are a very fine bass indeed, but in my opinion they've got a little more bland with every iteration. I'd love to try a modern TRB5P though (the expensive one).

The latest visit of Spangler to Mr Lynch in Jesmond. Watch us cock-up The Killers and murder Madness in three 30-minute sets of aural bludgeoning starting at 9.30pm.

Started on piano, then french horn to grade 5. Got into drums as my first band used to keep the gear at our house. I now dabble in drums, guitar and keys though I'll always be primarily a bass player. I think it's genetic. Got an Ibanez RG760, Squire Strat, Simon & Parker electro-acoustic and a Yamaha DTXpress feeding DFHS drum samples. Oh and a Trace Elliot Supertramp Stereo Chorus 2x12 combo. And a Casio weighted leccy piano, again running through some nice piano samples.

I love my PJB briefcase in that unobtrusive practice amp in the house role. It really does sound good.

An excellent right-hand exercise I've been doing of late is the 'I Feel Love' bassline (as done by Flea on the live at Slane album). root root octave octave 5th 5th minor 7th minor 7th (start at something like 5th fret D on A string). Try doing it alternate fingering then try it raking. When raked, the finger pattern reverses every other time through.

I'm definitely a raker - anything to improve economy of movement is a good thing imho.

I've got an MB1 with matching cabs. All analog with blendable tube and tranny preamp stages, and all under midi control. Ahead of its time!

Digitech's Digiverb is pretty nice.

Is it just me that finds the GT-6B dead easy to program then? I had it nailed in an evening. Maybe I'm just dead clever... I went from multi-pedals to the GT-6B - cheaper, more flexible and less faff. You do need a good knowledge of various sound terms to get the best from it though.
