5. Thanks for the plug Dougie! Just to let you know i'm actually working on another lessons website which is going to have a lot more content than my existing one. Not only will it have all the old stuff, it's going to have shorter lessons that will be a little easier to grasp than the ones i've got up now and will also have different sections for example... rhythmic studies, tunes analysis, improvisation, learning the jazz language etc. It's still not going to be a website for the complete novice though as there's so many great ones about (http://www.playbassnow.com) the last thing we need is another one. Watch this space! Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com

10. Hey guys thanks for the kind words! Sorry for taking agaes to get back to you, i've been on a gigging marathon over xmas. Faithless... The VI of a I VI II V in a minor key could be various chords, it depends how much spice you want to add Or you could just keep minor... Minor b13 sounds quite nice. Have a mess around with it and see what you think. Also, remember... if the piano/guitar player is playing the IV chord as a minor, while your improvising you could still imply altered scales/chords etc. When it comes to V chords or implied V chords the rule book is wide open! Easy man, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
11. Glad your enjoying it man! Easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
12. Hey guys I finally got some tutorials recorded covering some of the options you have when soloing over static dominant chords. I've covered some of the techniques i use when improvising over static dominant chords, but as always there's many different options available. What you should take into consideration though is that each different harmonic technique that you can use should be practiced for at least a month or two before moving on to another one. It takes time to get these things happening in your playing naturally, so be patient. Here's the link... http://scottsbasslessons.com/video-tutoria...ominant-chords/ Take it easy, Scott. 14. No worries Mike. Easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
15. Josh... Sorry you don't read, I would write it out in tab but i like to try and spur people on to start reading so for that reason i'm not going too. Maybe in the future... But, you should try to get to grips with some reading, i promise it doesn't take long to get the basics down which is all you need to be able to get through my tutorials. It'd probably take a couple of months at the most to get a good understanding of it down. Just get a bass reading method book and you'll be away! Faithless... Glad your into Adam Rogers, he's a lovely player. I was in NYC on a sabbatical for a while but more too study than anything else. It's a great place and i'd recommend going over and checking the scene out to anyone. If the visa situation wasn't so complicated i'd want to live over there permanently! Take it easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
16. Glad ya diggin' it hector!! Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
17. Cheers Mike, glad your enjoying it. I talk a lot about the application of the altered scale (melodic minor up a semitone from the route) in my other tutorials on my lessons site. If fact every tutorial except the 'how to practice scales and arpeggio's' tutorials has it in. Maybe start with the II V I tutorials. Another good one is the 'soloing on static minor chords tutorial', plenty of altered scale action there too. The altered scale can be a bit of a pain to start with... not the actual fingering of the scale, but actually 'hearing it' when you play. If your having these sorts of issues let me know as i've got some great ways to get the ears to start excepting the altered scale as a valid option. Easy man, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
18. Search Ed Friedland in google, he's got loads of great books and each one is really well written. Can't remember which publishing company it is but they're all on amazon anyway. There's a couple covering walking bass lines, one which covers soloing and another one which incorporates bits from the latter ones calles 'jazz bass'. You won't go far wrong with any of these. easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
19. Hi guys, again, sorry for the delay i've been super busy with gigs. This is the new tutorial i've just posted up on my lessons website. Word of warning... Learn the major scale in the three different positions before you start to tackle the continuous scale exercise otherwise it will tie your brain in knots. Again, the concept is easy to understand but just a little hard to put into practice at first. Take your time and you will get it... and it will make a difference! Here it is... http://www.scottsbasslessons.com/video-tut...ractice-scales/ Any questions, post them up on here so everyone can read them. Take it easy, Scott. http://www.scottbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
20. Cheers for checkin' out the lessons Mike. There's so much practice material you can get from these arpeggio exercises and if done regularly ALWAYS has a massive effect on peoples playing and understanding of harmony... so spread the word! The Benavente... yes it was me! Lovely bass, but alas i had to let it go. I did play it for around a year though. Take it easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
21. Yeah, i've been thinking about coming down to that. He played over in Manchester not so long ago with Mike Walker and Gwilym Simcock but i missed it as i had a gig. A friend of mine went to check it out and said the entire gig was killin. Carles Benavent... also a great, great player! Easy man, S. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
22. Lol, yeah i'm using a pick on this one... it comes from my obsession with Steve Swallow. I don't generally use a pick but i think it sounds great on acoustic basses. Easy man, http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
23. Hey guys thought i'd let you have a listen to this. Overwater asked me to record a short demo of their 'Expression' bass to put up on their website so i decided to have a quick widdle around the days of wine and roses. I tried to do a bit of chordal work, some soloing and some walking to show what a broad palette of sounds can be produced. Here it is... Easy, Scott. http://www.scottsbasslessons.com http://www.scottdevinemusic.com
