1. Thanks gents. I hooked everything up for the first time last night, just running some MP3's through the PA. I was amazed how little sound was coming out of the subs, compared to the tops but when I went closer, they were moving a helluva lot of air. Is that normal? Also, I was running the power amp practically full on - they soak up a lot of power, don't they? The tops were sounding a little thin and tinny so I assume I have to try different crossover points. More complicated that I thought!
2. Ah, I understand now, thanks for that Stevie - I'll try that too.
3.
Don't forget the option of running the tops full range and just rolling off the subs.
Sorry Stevie, can you explain what you mean here? Why should I need to run tops full range? I'm being thick!
4. Many thanks Dan. I'll start there!
5. I've just taken delivery of a pair of EV SB122 subs for our PA. They recommend a hi-pass filter at 40Hz. They have a recommended crossover range of 80Hz-160Hz. Can any wise PA experts out there offer any suggestion on where to set the x-over (or at least start trying things out)? I've got a couple of Yammy P7000S amps and the tops are Yammy S115V's. We are going to use them at a small gig on the Bank Hol weekend, so I don't have the luxury of spending hours trying out different points this week! Thanks (again!), Chris
6. And some photos as requested. Sorry for delay guys. Cheers Chris
7. Sorry, don't need anything - just the money to pay for a PA! Cheers Chris
8. ...and an Ampeg preamp! All good, thanks again Will. Chris
9. Nels bought my RH450. Zero problems, great comms and paid internationally without any problems. Cheers Chris
10. Bump for more info in the post. Grab yourself 4lbs and 900w of 12AX7 tube loveliness.
11. Fantastic Phil, thank you. So much to learn so little time!
12. 2 more (probably daft) questions coming up! My amp's output power at 20Hz-20kHz is750w x 2 @ 8ohms and 950w x 2 @ 4ohms. Is it better to connect 2 speakers to one side of the amp to present a 4ohm load, or one 8ohm speaker in each side? Also, on the Yamaha spec' page it says that the amp's output power at 1kHz is750w x 2 @ 8ohms and 1100w x 2 @ 4ohms. Why the different output power at 4ohms when compared to the 20Hz-20kHz figures? Thanks again for your help gents, this stuff is fascinating!
13.
Hope this helps. Mike
Thanks Mike, that does help. I appreciate you taking the time. Chris
14. Yep, great versatile kit. I was AB testing it's SVT model against my real SVT 4 Pro last weekend and it gets so, so close. A bargain.
15. Forgot to mention, I'll throw in the rack mount for free - it's been drilled to take a 'D' jack socket, but you are welcome to it if you want it? Thanks Chris
16. Thank you very much indeed. Huge help. Chris
17.
Can I leave surplus cable on the reel or will there be heat issues like power cables. Sorry if this is a daft question!
Can anyone advise on this? ta Chris

19.
The others are blissfully unaware of this universe and all that lies in it.
Glad it's not just me and my band! Anyway... my (beautiful!) Klotz/Neutrik 2.5mm speaker cables arrived today. They are on a reel / drum, bit like a hosepipe which will make life a lot easier. Can I leave surplus cable on the reel or will there be heat issues like power cables. Sorry if this is a daft question!
20.
I think the S115V's used the eminence 2" bolt on driver for most of their life, Whatever it is they give a great vocal sound http://www.bluearan....de=manufacturer you should be able to buy a new diaphragm for them if it is blown which is a lot cheaper than replacing the whole unit.
Cheers - I'll certainly investigate!
21.
Pretty much. That way it keeps all of the things that you don't want in the subs completely out. You lose all of the rumble that the guitar mics etc pick up that would normally be fed to the subs if all of the channels went to the xover. If you're xover allows it you should certainly try it.
I use the hi-pass filter on all channels apart from bass and kick - would this give the same benefits as your idea Jack?
22. So just send an aux containing bass, kick and perhaps keys to the subs? Is that what you mean Jack?
