1.
Yes I'm very anal about cables..
I've drawn coloured diagrams of our cable runs, snakes and stage setup - that's anal! But it has helped me go from zero experience to understanding this stuff fairly quickly - in a band full of technical imbeciles! Oh, and you guys answering my endless questions has helped too!
 2.
We also have some Speakon couplers so we can join cables together if we need to.
Fantastic idea, thank you - I ordered 5's, 10's and couplers last night. Cheers!
 3. Thanks everyone, this is very useful information, appreciated. I feel far more comfortable now. In the past, I've only had consumer stereo system tothink about, but now I'm the 'sound guy' in our band, playing with all these watts, DB's and expensive kit has made me a little nervous to say the least! My Yammy S115V's arrived (local ebay seller) - one of the tweeters is silent, so I'm negotiating. Quick question - If I swap the tweeters over I'll be able to check that it isn't the x-over circuit in the speaker that's causing the problem - is that a good way to check? I've found a replacement tweeter on Thomann, but if the x-over is the problem, I'll send them back! Thanks again guys, Chris
 4. [s]For Sale: Genz Benz 2nd generation Shuttle 9.2 (10 months old) Photos in post below £575 posted to UK. Purchased from Bass Direct 10.6.2012. I have the original receipt from Mark and the original shipping box. As new, limited home use only, probably seen about 6 hours playing in total! Anyway, I've moved over to Ampeg (for now!) and this is just sitting in my office doing nothing! Grab your self a good saving on a new one. 5. Phot's as promised, excuse my scruffy workshop - this cab normally lives in our (not scruffy) practice room, but I brought it to the house for the photos. Chris

 8. How far should I turn my PA amps up? Our new PA system is arriving in a few days, it consists of:

2 Yamaha P7000S amps (each capable 750w x 2 @ 8 ohms)
2 Yamaha S115V Tops (500w PGM / 1000w peak @ 8 ohm)
2 x EV SB112 Subs (800w PGM / 1600w peak @ 8 ohm)
DBX X-over
I went on a live sound course last year and the tutor said run you amps at full volume and control FOH volume on the desk. But he was talking about his lovely matched Martin rig. With my system above, how do I determine the volume the amps should be run at so I won’t damage my speakers? Thanks very much, Chris
 9.
It's surprising isn't it, even in a smallish pub, how several metres of cable can disappear once you start running things sensibly
Absolutely true! Thanks for the reply
 10. Afternoon gents, I need to sort some speaker cables for our PA. 2 x tops and 2 x subs. Will I be OK with 10 - 12 metre cable runs? Or is that too long? Cheers Chris
 11. Tom bought a Zoom B3 - easy transaction, great comms - just perfect. Hope you enjoy the B3! Chris
 12. For sale... Our Yamaha Stagepas 500 PA system. Wonderful, suprisingly loud and crystal clear PA - we've used it for 150 people wedding / party / pub gigs, but we are not a loud rock band, just a regular covers band, but we get lots of compliments on our sound and clarity. Some use the Stagepas 500 for monitoring or keys in larger venues. 17. [s]For Sale: Ampeg BA-112 bass combo £100 £100 picked up from Swansea (or thereabouts). Up for sale is my Ampeg BA-112 bass combo. I've been using it for monitoring but I'm going over to IEM's. They are known for rattling, but this has been heavily reinforced with Titebond woodglue (as per Ampeg tech's instructions) and it's also had lots of extra batting introduced. It's a fantastic sounding little combo and I can hear myself no problems playing a foot away from our bloody loud drummer! From the Ampeg site. Whether you’re looking for a small, high-quality combo for personal practice and rehearsal, or a highly portable alternative to your main rig, the BA-112 packs a lot of Ampeg into its compact frame. The most lightweight and portable of the Bassamp Series, the rugged BA-112 features a 50-Watt output section and a single 12” Ampeg speaker. Tone is the name of the game, and no matter what you’re looking for, the Style Control puts absolute tone at your fingertips. With five presets to choose from, and the tone-sculpting capabilities of an onboard 3-band EQ, you’ll find your sound night after night, gig after gig. Innovative, versatile and great sounding, the BA-112 combo incorporates a tilt-back, monitor-style enclosure, making it perfect for the stage and the studio. The RCA inputs are ideal for playing along with an MP3 or CD player, and you even can plug in headphones for "silent-running" mode. 18. A very good question actually! I used to have a suitcase and a 4B, amazing rig! I can only imagine what the 8B would sound like! If you email Phil Jones at PJB, he'll answer straight away, he's amazing at direct customer service. I emailed him a couple of weeks ago and he was going to Ethiopia for a holiday, but should be back now. [email protected] He'll let you know for sure Cheers Chris
 19. BTW, I'm away until the end of next week, so will be able to get photos sorted then. Cheers Chris

As with every Phil Jones Pure Sound product, we design and manufacture every speaker including our new Neodymium speakers in the Neo-Power 6B, 8B and 12B cabinets. Our speakers are developed to fit the exacting requirements of acoustic loading and demanding frequency range of bass instruments. These cabinets are powerful and rugged but at a greatly reduced weight…even with ¾” Baltic birch plywood. 24.
The best compact subs I've come across have been EV, either the old passive SB122 or the active ZXa1. Both built round 12" so the footprint is very good and for your band they don't have to be LOUD which I don't think they will do anyway. The 15 and 18" subs should give a completely different level of sound..but then you'll pay for that in terms of size and weight.
Just had a quick look at the Electrovoice Sb122's - they look perfect! I'll do some more research, but after an initial 10 minutes reading reviews, it looks like they'll definately make a short list. Thank you.
