1. I managed to get Amplitube working well, but it's a fiddle. I also tried the JamUp XT app suggested above and bought the bass pack (GK, SWR, B15, SVT, a Sansamp Bass Driver + a couple of bass specific fx). This is very good indeed and very user friendly. Sounds excellent and is simple. The winner!
2. Had a few requests for photos, sorry for the delay, but i prefer to do them outside - better light and all that. I'll get some shots (and gut shots) up this weekend, all being well. Plugged it in again last light for play - I ran in into the front of my Shuttle with its EQ set flat, just to experiment - wonderful
3. I reinstalled the software as suggested and all seems well, distortion gone, but still very hard to set a level that doesnt clip that I can actually hear! But I'll play with the settings a bit more. Thanks very much for your help.
4. I'm about 8 coats into a neck refinish project for one of my Fenders. I've been using a wiping poly varnish over an amber stain and I'm really pleased with the finish, with a quick wire wool rubdown and a wipe over with a tack cloth between coats, it's very smooth. I'm figuring on doing about 30+ coats of wiping poly as each coat is so thin. I'm going to apply the decal soon and I've bought a can of Plastikote spray poly to put a few mist coats, then a couple of wet coats over the decal - and then I'll go back to the wiping varnish. Will the spray poly over the wiping poly be OK?
5. I'll double check tonight and reinstall everything too. Thanks again for your help.
6. Cheers Dave, I use Beyer Dynamics DT770's, so shouldnt have any problems there. It must be an input gain thing. One last question - could you get decent output volume?
7. Hmmm, that is strange. I'll try the settings again - but I'm running out of options. I use a passive, but with some Wizard pups, not sure if they could cause it to distort? Out of interest, did you run the output into headphones or through speakers? Thanks for trying.
8. Yes, IRig was a noisy beast. Apogee's website says it is compatible: http://support.apogeedigital.com/knowledgebase/?p=23 Thanks for taking a look!
9. Thanks gents. I have Ampkit too, but I've invested quite a bit of money in Amplitube so wanted to try and get it working well. As I mentioned, I can get a signal, but it's very overdriven. I had a iRig but wasnt impressed. Dave, I'd be interested to see if you can get a clean signal with the Apogee Jam.
10. Anyone using amplitube on an i device with an apogee jam? All I get is a very overdriven signal, no matter how I tweak the jam's input gain or the amplitube software. It sounds wonderful on the GK app and GarageBand. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you Chris

12. I owned a Fender Highway 1 for about two minutes (had to go back to GAK due to a huge ding). The matt finish on those was very nice indeed, but it was a definate matt rather than a dulled aged nitro sort of look. They did black and red if I remember correctly.
13. Plenty. 1 pack is enough for a dozen bass bodies. Handy stuff to have around for polishing and cleaning other things too. Good luck!
14. Wire wool from Rothko and Frost. I don't have the skills or lighting to photograph the finish, sorry! It's got a soft semi-shiny sheen that can be made more shiny using the cutting compound / polish. It's dead simple. It looks the same as the nitro finish on my Fender Road Worn. Take it slowly with a light touch. ONLY use small circular motions with the wool and polish and it'll look natural. What you are trying to do is apply as many tiny light scratches as possible. This will dull it down, then bring back the gloss with the polish. As I was after a light relic feel, I polished high wear areas more. This process worked well on scratchplate too.
15. Just done this very thing. Knocked the shine back with 0000 wire wool, then polished with a rubbing compound from halfords. I'm very happy. Looks 'just right'.
16. Two of the GEQ sliders on my Ampeg Pro were banging and popping when I played certain notes. So I took the GEQ PCB out and noticed that the solder points on the two sliders were moving, therefore making and breaking contact. I carefully warmed them, sucked the old solder off and applied a good drop of fresh shiny solder. Works fine and is now solid as a rock. A couple of questions... 1. Were they what are called 'dry joints' 2. Did I do it correctly / should I have done anything else / differently? Thanks! Chris
17. Yup, it is the most beautiful Custom Shop Telecaster ever. Absolutely lovely colour.
18. Not after any trades thanks, I need to pay for my SVT!
19. SOLD - to a very lucky bass player indeed! [s]For sale: Ampeg SVP Pro Preamp - £280 posted I absolutely love this pre' and have been using it into the fx return on my Genz Benz Shuttle 9.2. I love the tone so much I've just bought an Ampeg SVT so need to sell this to pay for that! If I had more room, I'd love to keep this. It's well used but fully working and sounds gorgeous. I reserve the right to change my mind and keep this forever and ever and ever! Turn you amp into a thick'n'creamy Ampeg. If there is any interest I'll post some photos. Photos a few bumps down... £280 delivered to UK address.[/s]
20. Interesting development. I bought a SVT 4 Pro because I really love the the tone of my SVP, and although its not identical (I prefer the SVP tone) it's close enough and growing on me. Anyway, I pulled the SVP out of my rack, plugged it in for one last AB with the SVT and it was as quiet as a mouse. No hissing, humming or anything - just wonderful. So it seems that it wasn't playing nicely with something else in my rack, although the hum destroyer fixed that. So deffo some sort of ground issue with my rig, although everything else is now whisper quiet too.
21. Sorry, this is being used by a bandmate now, forgot this was posted. Chris
22. I was looking at an SVT 2 Pro, but 80lbs scared me off and so did the tube power section to be honest. I always worried it would need too much looking after - a bit like a pet. I'll keep an eye open for one
