Hi BCers I want to input my Ampeg pre-amp into the FX return of my GenzBenz Shuttle, but I also want my rackmount multi effects unit in the Genz’s FX loop. Is that possible? How would I do it? Cheers Chris

Equaliser and desk help - any sound engineers out there?
Walker replied to Walker's topic in Accessories and Misc
Cheers Thinman - good to know it works. I think we'll have the same issue with monitors - we have a banjo player and that thing is a beast to tame for feedback. -
Can you recommend good tube brands and a supplier?
Walker replied to Walker's topic in Amps and Cabs
I took my SVP-pro back out of my rack this weekend and opened her up again and found I had exactly the same valve set that Watford recommended, so I'll live with these for a bit and maybe save up for some valves that are older than me! The Basschatter I bought it from is going to send me the old tubes he took out too, so I can have a fiddle. The reason I was going to swap them out is that it's buzzing like mad, but I had an electrician over and he said that he'll run a new power supply, independant of everything else with it's own earth supply and this may help quieten my rig. Does that sound right? Cheers for your input on this thread - I'm sure it'll be a lot of use to others in the future too. -
Marek bought my B3 (lucky guy!) and was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Great comm's. Thanks very much and enjoy the unit!
...absolutely brilliant over the phone in terms of advice and stock availability.
This was my experience this afternoon - passionate about his subject and I don't doubt his expertise and he was a very experienced bass player and Ampeg user too. -

Thanks again for all your advice. I've just had a chat with Watford and the guy is a bass player and an Ampeg user. I'm just going to double check to see what i have in at the moment and learn a little more about what I'm buying! Out of interest, does anyone what that goo is around certain compenents in this gut shot? -
Equaliser and desk help - any sound engineers out there?
Depending on the setup of your desk there shouldn't be a pressing need to pan everything hard-left.
Oh, that's interesting, thanks for that, when you say 'depending on setup', could you elaborate when you get a couple of mins. I'm intrigued now! -

Thank you very much indeed, thats very helpful. I'll get this all hooked up next rehearsal. Thanks again, Chris -
I hope someone can help with this! Our band is mono. We have a Yamaha MG166CX desk and I'm after a DBX 2 channel 31 band EQ. I have a couple of questions: 1. Can I use one side of the EQ to shape the room and the other side of the EQ to help ring out the monitors? 2. Would I then just come out of my main out just using one of the outputs (and panning everything on the desk to one side?) 3. I've attached a picture of the output section of the desk - how would you connect the equaliser for the monitors and main out, considering the monitor mix will be on an aux? We'll eventually get another EQ just to keep the monitors in check, but for the time being I need to try and work with one EQ. Thanks very much for your help - I'm slowly getting to grips with all this stuff! Cheers Chris

Hello, I need to get some good quality, quiet, low microphonic 12AX7's and12AU7's for my Ampeg pre'. Can anyone recommend good brands to look at and a good place to buy 'em? First time I've ever done this! Cheers Chris

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your help. If it was up to him, my boy would just mess about with the crazy synth patches!

Is a bass amp power stage uncoloured? My eldest son is learning to play guitar. I don't want to buy a guitar amp as sapce is tight, so I'm looking at buying him a 2nd hand Line 6 PodXT Pro or Zoom G3 - something with amp modelling and a few FX to keep him interested! I've got a Genz Shuttle 9.2 and a couple of lovely Vanderklay 112MNT cabs as my bass rig. If I run the Pod or Zoom into the effects return of my Genz, will that be pretty uncoloured? Is the power stage of a bass amp nice and clean and flat or tweaked for bass at all? I would have thought all the voicing for bass would have been on the pre' stage, but I'm not sure! I assume the cabs won't make too much difference either? He's not a rock god tone geek, just a 10 year old kid who wants to make some half decent noise to annoy his old parents! Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Chris

Just bought one of these with the controller - can't believed I've never tried TC before, built like a tank, loud and phat as hell and some amazing tech built in - 4 sweepable EQ bands, a really usable tuner, spectral compression and the amazing Tubetone. Oh, and 3 presets that are a doddle to set up. Check out the manual online - this is amazing value. Good luck with the sale.

Weekend Sound Engineering course - a recommendation for you I attended a 2 day sound engineering course this weekend with a company called Base Sound in Stroud and can thoroughly recommend if you are the one that sorts our out the sound for your band. Our band were all clueless (with me being the most 'technical') and we've just got a new Yammy desk with far too many buttons - hey presto, I now know what I'm doing! There were five of us on the course from all over the country (fellow musicians, a teacher and a couple of guys who were starting a hire company) and the guy running the course has 30+ years of experience doing the sound for all sizes and types of gig. Its a fast paced, no-nonsense, getting your hands dirty type of course - and a good laugh (depends on fellow attendees I suppose, but I had a great bunch). Covers everything from EQing the room to final mix - all very practical stuff. If you want more, I think he does a 4 dayer and 1-2-1's too. Hope this is useful to someone. No affiliation - just a happy punter who's happy to recommend good stuff to my fellow bassists. http://www.basesound.co.uk/
