1. Schematic now fixed in OP. Sorry for that.
2. I bought a tuner from Paul, arrived pretty much immediately - great comms, great price, well packed - I'm one happy (and in-tune) bass player! Cheers Chris
3. Amp fuse – looking at schematic, can I replace 63ma with 100ma fuse? I’m just trying a few obvious things before I send my Ampeg SVT-IIP preamp off to a tech (resoldering a few joints, new valves, etc). The bright input rapidly fluctuates in volume. During my poking around, I found that one of the fuses (see the attached schematic – bottom left corner) has blown, the amp still works, so not sure what the fuse does. To be honest, this is the first schematic I’ve ever looked at and I’m really enjoyed trying to decipher it! I’ve had no joy trying to find an imperial sized (6.3mm x 32mm) 64ma (1/16amp) 250v slow blow fuse. My question is: looking at the schematic, would it be really stupid to drop in a 100ma slow blow in instead? As the amp still works, I’ve assumed the fuse protects against the switchable voltage selector being in the wrong position? Or is that just another newb assumption? Thanks for your help. http://oi42.tinypic.com/4q5gh.jpg
4. Ah, I've been suckered! I was assured that it would be the only one in the UK and it would be ages until they got more in, so I had better put a £30 deposit down! Oh well, I don't feel so bad about cancelling now. I've got the new DI version anyway, that arrived from the US a week or two ago, so that'll be my backup when my 'vintage' Ampeg pre' fails
5. Thanks Mr Foxen. Even the allen sockets on the front are an odd size! If got a metric and imperial set and neither will fit, so I've got to go and look for an in between sized key now. The normal socket sounds wonderful.
6. I've just bought this off eBay - must be the same unit as it has exactly the same problem! Did you find out what the issue was? Cheers Chris
7. I have the only VT Rack that GAK is getting in reserved, deposit paid. I've finally managed to find a 2nd hand Ampeg SVT-IIP preamp so I'm not going to be needing the VT Rack any more. I'm going to email my contact to cancel and get my deposit back. If anyone else here wants to replace me and have this when it arrives, PM me and I'll make sure my GAK contact gets in touch with you to reserve it! Cheers Chris
8. A few people waiting for their stuff to sell, but nothing firm yet, so still available. I'm happy to drive an hour or so in your direction to help with pick up and I'm in North Wales early next week (Conwy / Llandudno) if that helps anyone?

Feedback for ikay

Ian helped me out with some intonation screws that he had in his spares box - they made a huge difference to my playing! He wouldnt accept anything in return, what a gent! Thank you very much for helping out Ian. Chris
10. C'mon. Make the most of your iPad/iPhone and turn it into a spectacular practice device. Sit on the sofa while the hubby/wifey is watching Peaky Blinders, pop on your headphones and thump away on a *B-15 to 'for once in my life'. *Insert amp and song of your choice here
11. Buy some high quality wood glue and flood all the cab joints. Do one face at a time, let it dry, turn it, do the next one, etc (stops it dripping). Buy some wadding / batting from a sewing shop and staple to the inside of the cab on back and sides. Unscrew the speaker, use thin adhesive door insulation strip around the edge of the speaker hole, screw back in place. It'll be rock solid and tight after this little lot! Worked a treat for mine after hours searching for solutions online. Hope this helps.
12. If you’ve never used you iPad or iPhone (this works with a Mac too), here’s what I’ve found out… I’ve tried ‘em all and I feel the very best app is Jam-Up. I think the basic version is free, but immediately buy the first of the two bass expansion packs. This gives you a modelled 60’s SVT, a 60’s B-15 and GK, a SWR and a Sansamp BDDI. They sound really good to be honest. You also get a bass special fx pedal, can’t remember what it is, a Mu-tron maybe? But the best thing about this little app is that you can open a song from your play list, slow it down, speed it up AND change the pitch – which makes it a sh1t hot silent practice tool if you play in a covers band! While you’re at it, download the free GK Lite app. That sounds pretty good too. This Apogee Jam unit is probably the best IOS input around, but I need XLR input too so I’ve had to buy a different unit, hence this sale.
13. I’ve been using a pre’ straight into the desk and using IEM’s for monitoring, but as I’m the only one in the band using in-ears, I felt weirdly disconnected from the gigs. So I sold some gear and bought a Portaflex PF-500 and the matching 15” cab. On Saturday, we played to a 150 strong birthday party crowd in a decent sized hall on a wooden stage. A great gig with up-for-it punters. I took the two rear casters off the cab to tilt it back a bit so I could use it as a monitor, popped it on an Gramma pad, DI’d the head into the desk and bingo… a fantastic and simple little setup for 600 quid! We sometimes play acoustic gigs too, with just the bass and vox amplified a touch, so this is perfect for those situations too. I’ve managed to dial in the approx. tone that I enjoyed with my SVT 4-Pro, but nothing will ever match that head (for me anyway!). I’ve a bit of tweaking to do to get it ‘just so’, but I’m really pleased so far. The guys didn’t complain about me being too loud on stage, so good from their POV too. Anyone else using a PF in a similar situation?
14. [s]I have an Apogee Jam in fantastic condition - not getting used despite investing heavily in Amplitube! Anyone fancy one? See post below for enticement... 50 quid posted.[/s]
15. Yup, just like discreet said. Nice and easy. Mines part of the pa rack, all powered by a furman. One switch and everything powers up.
16. Phil had my VTB Deluxe - everything smooth, great comms. Enjoy the pedal! Chris
17. Thanks very much for your advice. I can now turn up and look like I know what I'm talking about! Thanks again, Chris
18. Hello again, We are playing a 150 capacity hall on the weekend and I've just found out we are on a stage rather than at punter level Our 3K PA consists of tops and subs. I assume the subs should be at floor level, but should the tops (on stands) be on the floor too or on the stage with us? I've read that the tops should be 2 feet above head height. What should I do? Cheers, Chris
19. The manual is now on their website and I've had an email from GAK to apologise for the delay!
20. Still available. I need to pay for some other gear so can't accept trades on this, thanks for the offers though. Chris
21. Just a bump... would I run everything to an Aux > send > DBX > return > headphone out? Is that how I should set it up? Sorry for being a techn-dork!
22. Thanks very much for the help (again!) Monckyman, I'll experiment next weekend and will no doubt have a couple more questions! Oh, just thought - how would I physically connect this together? Where would the dbx sit in my setup?
23. Hello all, I use In-ear monitors with the rest of the band using wedges. I've got my own little Yammy mixer and bring in an aux with the band mix, my signal from my pre' and a couple of mic's of the drums (he isn't mic'd up for FOH). I rum my IEM's from the headphone out on the Yammy. I've got a DBX 166 compressor/limiter with a spare channel and I thought it would be a great idea to use the limiter to protect my ears from dropped mic's, feedback, etc, etc. Any idea how I would set this up? I've looked all over for info, but have found zilch. Thanks for looking! Chris
