I really dislike the rosewood fingerboards, but this one is irresistible! Probably it's the colour combination. A bit shame the logo is a bit dinted, but it's a thing of a beauty anyway!

what bass player is is inspiring you right now?
Immo replied to fiatcoupe432's topic in General Discussion
I'll be honest - guys who do extremely simple things and still sounding awesome: mostly Paul Simonon from The Clash and Cubbie Fink from Foster the People (these two guys in one pot may seem a bit blasphemous to some, but, hey...) -
I borrowed my Randall practice bass amp to my friend who recently bought 70's Aria Pro II LP guitar and didn't had any amp. A bit (tiny bit!) bluesey, dark sound, but works just fine. It's the other combination (bass+guitar amp) that brings trouble.

I'm talking to myself here, but at least I got one answer on TDPRI.com: 'I put a single coil SD pickup on my 78 Tele bass, pretty much like your pic. I love it! Best mod you can make to a mudbucker bass.' Anyway, bump, waiting for your feedback. Yes, yours!

Oh, cr**p, I haven't noticed it has set in neck. So putting another PU would be quite difficult - with bolt-on neck I'd jost make a 'tunnel' for wiring to the humb's chamber. But with set in neck it's going to be difficult... :/ And I forgot to ask about the most important thing: as you may have noticed, I live in Poland. How about shipping?

80's 'hair rockers' The irony...
Immo replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I always 'drifted with the fate' or something and never bothered about the fact that 'being responsible and grown up' would require me cutting my hair. I've had long hair since high school, sometimes to my arms, sometimes shorter, bot never too short. They're getting curly, anyway, so most of the time I had 'Frusicante-ish' hairstyle. And guess what? I got a job as a game designer, so I don't have to be 'responsible and grown up' at all. My style of dressing was always schizophrenic, combining elements of heavy metal, punk rock, grunge and hip-hop styles at once and it's hardly a day without someone staring at me. I always have my trademark bandannas on wrists and fingerless gloves whenever I go outdoors, no matter what time of year it is. And I'm even planning to wear a earring in my ear... -
Do we convince ourselves that expensive strings sound better?
Immo replied to morsefull's topic in Accessories and Misc
I'm finally convinced that tapewounds are the strings made for me. I love their a bit honky sound, their softness and the 'less-tense' feeling. They also last much longer, so I guess that will be my choice for life. They're quite more expensive than typical strings, but they're totally worth it. Oh, and the Rotosound striungs were always grat for me - 66's are perfect choice for my T-40. I couldn't imagine better strings for it. They're also expensive (at least in Poland), but really good. -

I was always the one to feel sorry for people who are that confused and/or lost, but I can't stop laughing, that's just so 'awesome and lame at the same time', as Dosi stated.

My strings arrived after an easy and nice transaction. No problems with communication - I see Bass Doc's reputation is well earned. Pleasure doing business, I hope I'll deal with him again soon.

Do we convince ourselves that expensive strings sound better?
Immo replied to morsefull's topic in Accessories and Misc
Well, from my experience the more I paid for strings, the more I was satisfied with their sound. I never paid big amounts of money (comparing purchasing power of PLN and the usual prices for bass strings) - I always looked for a good deal, but the most expensive strings (in my case, Rotosound 77 Flats, D'Addaior Chromes and Fender Nylon Tapewounds) were the best. But those aren't the strings from the top shelf... And I'm not sure I'd pay 10% of my salary for a set of strings even if it'd last forever, like La Bella flats. -
In terms of looks - i like it just the way it is. But, of course, that's blasphemous. If you want to sell it for more quid, I'd go for replacing bridge pickup with standard MM humbucker and bridge pickup with MM single (as in some Sterlings and Cutlasses).
Are they the ones with the headstock that looks a bit like a foot?
Most probably. Guess that's their trademark feature. I think your second thoughts are unnecessary, mojobas, those basses seem to be a decent gear. How much did it cost, if I may ask? I guess it was quite much quid... If not, in case you're not happy with it, I bet some guys (me included, as I find Lodestone basses neat looking and, based on opinions, good sounding ) would like to but it from you.

“I think this is a Fender Jazz Bass from the 70's”
(...) the people who whinge every time Fender release something and then harp on about what they 'should' be doing, as if Fender exists to break new ground in guitar R&D.
Exactly! Why should Fender design new extremely sophisticated basses, as they made all time classics already? I guess now they deserve to just do the experiments with new tops, different woods, weird pickup configurations ('pawn shop') and stuff like that. They've already fixed the biggest design flaws of their instruments such as slab bodies or plastic bridge saddles. I guess the 'Select' Series are made basically for two kinds of people: 1. Those, who collect Fenders or like to try every model to find The One 2. Those, who consider standard black and white or sunburst colours as a boring configuration and dare to look diferent I'd agree that the Fender's prices are step. However, I'd buy used Japanese Fender anyway and they come usually as a bargain, well worth the price. The only thing that really pisses me about Fender's prices is the cost of really simple to produce genuine spare parts like pickguards, control plates or chrome covers.
