I find the best way to not miss people who have left, and to be able to get into lively debates with the same people over and over again without it turning into a feud, is to have a really bad memory for people's names...
This sort of post really wind me up....I have had enough and am now leaving. Don't even think about trying to stop me. I mean it. Don't try it. I mean it.
Don't try to stop me! I mean it, don't try to stop me! Don't try to stop me! Stop me! Stop me! Edit: I'm going to add the whole exchange because it's brilliant... Captain James Hook: [holding a pistol to his head] No stopping me this time, Smee. This is it. Don't make a move Smee, not a step. My finger's on the trigger. Don't try to stop me, Smee. Smee: Oh, not again. Captain James Hook: This is it. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't try to stop me this time, Smee. Don't you dare try to stop me this time, Smee, try to stop me. Smee, you'd better get up off your ass. Get over here, Smee! Smee: I'm coming. I'm coming. Captain James Hook: Stop me! This is not a joke! I'm committing suicide! [Smee triggers the gun away from Hook's head, sinking the model ship in the pool] Captain James Hook: Don't ever frighten me like that again. Smee: I'm sorry. Captain James Hook: What are you, some kind of a sadist? Smee: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. How do you feel now? Captain James Hook: [sighs] I want to die. Smee: Oh, now, now. And entirely relevant.

Great, now I've got You're The One That I Want going around in my head.
Your mad!! Think of the children!!
I do, as I rifle their prams and pushchairs looking for Rusks. Those things are too good for kids, but, well, I can't go and buy them for myself, can I...?
+1 38 years ago for me though. No regrets though, like playing drums & guitar but love playing bass!
I had the opposite problem, my dad wanted to buy me a drum kit. Fortunately, after I explained that I knew people who played drums (and guitar) and it made more sense for me to play bass, he bought me a bass. Probably the best thing he ever did for me. Though I would still like the radio controlled monster truck that I really, desperately wanted at the time, and I keep dropping hints to my wife that I would like an electric drum kit.

On the Doomy side there's Serpent Venom. Their bass player is a proper lovely bloke. http://serpentvenom.bandcamp.com/album/of-things-seen-unseen Then, for something a bit harsher, there's Piss Viper. My wife works with the drummer and went to their first ever gig a couple of weeks ago. http://pissviper.bandcamp.com/releases And the wonderfully noisy Oaf. The bass player is Dom Lawson, the music journalist, and another top bloke. http://oafmusic.bandcamp.com I'll mention Beholder, too, the band that Piss Viper were supporting. They're from my old town and I played with their old guitarist, who now produces their albums instead, in my first ever proper band. https://beholderuk.wordpress.com

I have a notepad file (labelled: All Torque, No Trousers) full of phrases that have popped into my head. Most of them don't go anywhere, some end up as poems, and some turn into songs (some even end up as ideas for the names of effects pedals I plan on building). I remember being told that lyrics are just poems put to music, but I don't think that is right. I find poetry far easier to write than lyrics, and trying to use them as lyrics has proven difficult. Some of my favourite bands have specific lyrical themes, such as war, horror and Norse mythology, some tell ancient stories and some make up new ones. One day I might get around to writing the concept album I have in my head based on Richard K Morgan's A Land Fit For Heroes trilogy of novels.

Yeah, I have to admit that steel isn't ideal. I'd have gone for aluminium if it was magnetic. The little magnets that my wife uses have little steel discs that come with them. I might well use something less prone to corrosion and drill out holes to mount the steel discs into on the back of the cover.

I absolutely adore that body shape and would love to own a Cort Curbow. You've got the finish looking really, really good. I think I may well copy it when I refinish my Cort Flying V. Similar to alittlebitrobot's idea, I have recently decided to replace the cavity and truss rod covers on my Warlock, which has an ebony fretboard. I am going to try to find some 1mm ebony veneer and some 1mm steel sheet, glue them together and cut them to shape. The steel will act as part of the shielding, and I will embed some magnets (my wife has these tiny neodymium magnets, for her floristry, that are really strong) into the bass to hold the covers in place. If I can't find ebony veneer I might try to find something else with a nice grain and dye it.

I hadn't heard of them, but having now watched some videos on YouTube, I really like them. They remind me of a cross between Subhumans and Oaf.
jfinkle would appear to have been banned since posting that comment, so you may not get that elaboration. I'm hoping that the ban is due to some behaviour that's not obvious via their posts, otherwise it would seem a rather heavy-handed reaction from the mods!
When I saw his comment I wondered if it might be from a previously banned member, it was too familiar, if you see what I mean. If it was, then that would explain it.

Playing on the back of a moving vehicle
I always have a full English before I use a Jenny....or any other girl for that matter. It's the only way I can find the energy,
It's amazing how much a Donkey ride can take out of you, isn't it? -
And the screw is adjustable if there is any wear. Curious - why is playing the songs on 5-string awkward? It should be easier. Is it the desire for the C# to be an open string?
Yes, I'd like the C# to be open. It's old school death metal that I'm talking about. It's perfectly possible to play the stuff on the five string, but with an open string it flows better, is more fun to play. I'm not in a band, so unless it is fun I tend to find myself just not bothering, even if I love the song.
OK, point taken. I've deleted the videos I'd posted. I'll repeat, however, that there is a 'Report' button on every post; it's a guaranteed manner to have an official measured response from the Mod team.
I don't want to report you. I don't believe you have a nasty bone in your body and that you wouldn't support The Red Pill if you knew about them. I actually saw the videos last night and eventually decided not to say anything, I didn't want to seem to be accusing you of something horrid, or start another argument in this thread. But today I decided that it does people interested in the kinds of sexism talked about in the thread, a better service if they were made aware of that particular group and their tactics. I would hope that no one would just take my word for it, especially such strong, emotive words, and go research for themselves.
I'm also a forum member. It's simply for balance. Why the angst..? No-one's attacking anyone, are they..?
I have to admit that I was rather disappointed that you posted that first video. I also have to admit that I didn't watch the whole thing, he was already vile enough by the time he got to the Baboon bums. But, to be honest, seeing it was from a MRA from The Red Pill, was enough. Did the video actually turn into a turgid cesspool of rape and death threats? Or were they restrained enough to keep that for the thread they posted the video to? They really are a nasty bunch, and being someone that has suffered workplace sexism (refused one job and sacked from another), you'd think I'd be glad someone was looking out for the men, but not those people. I have hated typing this out to you, of all people, but I imagine you don't really know who they are. Also, the second video made a good point but didn't really supply balance. His female admirers/harassers weren't nearly as insistent, creepy or scary as those of the lady in the other video and, as half of his comments came from men, it just shows that the problem is even bigger, not spread out fairly.

If you struggle with a five string, perhaps a four string strung with the bottom four strings from a five set? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/257010-four-string-with-bead/page__fromsearch__1

I don't know why people keep bringing up my cousin, she's not even on BassChat.

Another one ticked off the Bucket List - hopefully

The Vision Bleak. Rammstein. If Sabaton and maybe Amon Amarth came anywhere close to here I'd go see them, too. Can't think of any other bands I'd bother to go to see live that I haven't already seen. Although my wife is determined to drag me to a Piss Viper gig. She went to watch them last weekend and is already banging on about their next gig. -
Thanks Intime-Nick, the spirit xxl is actually the cable that I'd got my eye on, good to know it works well with the Hicons. Kingbollock, from what I've read I gather that the Hicon pancake plugs have 2 solder tabs inside, so no need to solder to the case. Seems to be a plus side that a few people have mentioned in reviews of them. Thanks for the input guys.
Ah, right, sorry. I couldn't see the second tab in the photo in the link you posted.
-
I haven't used the Hicon plugs, but I do use the generic pancake plugs from Bitsbox. They're cheap, and it's obvious, but they do work. The only problem I have had with them is that, no matter how much scuffing I do, I cannot get solder to adhere to the case of the plug to attach the shield. So I solder the core onto the centre tab and then fold the shield back over the cable and clamp it down when I close the case up. Because they're an angled plug, unplugging them doesn't put pressure in a direction that might cause this method to fail, and I haven't had one fail yet.
I've been thinking about this recently. I have a five string set with a .125 B, that aren't very old, I only replaced them because I won a set of Elixirs. I have been coming up against a lot of stuff in C, C# and D, that is proving to be awkward on my five string. How bad an idea would it be to put the bottom four from the five string set on my four string and tune the whole lot up a tone? I don't mind the strings being tight, I just don't want to turn my bass into a medieval ranged weapon.
Sorry for quoting my own post but it got lost at the end of the last page. I am considering having a crack at it tonight and would like to know I'm not going to regret it.

I have used Dunlop Big Stubby 3mm for the last twenty years. Then, a little over a year ago, I think, I switched to Dunlop Primetones in 3mm, because they sounded a bit nicer and, as it turned out, lasted much longer (the first one lasted a year, but considering how much they cost...). Then, recently, I have been playing a lot more Death metal, Obituary, Bolt Thrower, Cradle of Filth (I know... Not death metal...) and an awful lot of Amon Amarth, amongst other things. And it turned out that I got a better, less muddy, more defined sound with a flappier tip, when playing the really fast parts. I have quite a collection of types, material and sizes in my pick box and found the Tortex .60mm to be ideal. I went out to a couple of local shops and bought some more to try to fill in any gaps around that size, just in case, and didn't find anything more suitable. I still use the 3mm Primetones when I want a more finger like sound, especially if I am using a pick for the main notes but plucking chords with my fingers.
-
I should add, that I have never actually used the mains output of that box, only the earth. In fact, just after fitting a plug to the thing I am currently mucking about with, I looked at it and thought "Huh, I could have just stuck it in there... Oh well.".
