Wow - that's insane money, hav they really improved the technology of the LP12 that much? I'd love to compare a new one with my old '80's one
Which one cost the most? That's the real question isn't it?

Do you tell your work colleagues that you play bass?
"Bewail the man who moves away from a brewery town" old jungle saying
Actually, the truth is, while I was born in Burton it was only because that was where the closest hospital was. We actually lived over the county border in Derbyshire and moved to Warwickshire when I was 6. Someone should collect up some of my most recent posts, you could write my biography with them. -
King Ferdinand Bollock. Does have a ring to it, right? Not a very Welsh ring though. Brenin Furdinand Pêlsach! y gorau, bwrt
I ain't Welsh! I was born in Burton-on-Trent, best brewery town in the world, the whole town smells of hops, it's ace. Only moved to Wales about four years ago to be closer to my Welsh wife's family. She had to move to England to get herself a decent bloke, I think she liked my jumper. -
The people are work with are decent people, but i doubt i will have much contact with most of them after i stop working there. I don't really care if they hear the song on the radio one day and think "That's milton's song!". Infact, i would quite like to be there at that moment. I would laugh my head off. One of them also thought my last name was Rockefeller. I mean, what!? if you are silly enough to actually believe it, can you blame me for taking the piss a bit?
My wife recently brought up something I had forgotten about. Not long after we first got together I managed to convince her that my middle name was Ferdinand (I don't have a middle name). I don't know why I thought it would be funny but she still chuckles about it all these years later. -
Bah! It's all about the Cassette! Actually, isn't vinyl written from tape? When I was a kid I used to rip all my vinyl onto cassette because it doesn't take long before vinyl starts to sound ropey... EDIT: I have to admit that the first part was meant tongue in cheek but the bit about ripping is true.

Before my wife came home from a party with 8 Grolsch washers, I was using washers from shower hoses, very cheap from a DIY store. They're black too so they don't stand out, though the red washers do look cool.

I have to admit that I don't understand them. They look pretty but I couldn't play with them on. I am a pick player (yeah, so my opinion probably doesn't count...) and I don't play in one place along the body, depending on what I am playing. Fast and solid near the bridge or closer to the neck for more mellow sounding slow stuff, and I like to palm mute over the bridge. Although, one of my Basses has an action screw that sticks out too far and hurts my hand and I have been trying to think of a way of covering it without getting in the way. I suppose I should cut it shorter but I don't like the idea of losing the range.

I wouldn't have a problem with people knowing. When I was a kid I mentioned to the bosses son that I played Bass. He told be he had a Bass but had never taken to it, he then offered to sell it to me for the grand total of £10. He brought it in the next day and when I played it he was actually surprised that I did actually play and gave it to me for nothing! It was only a Satellite P-Bass copy, but it was actually quite nice. I like that people know I play, you never know when one day someone might hear about it and offer an opportunity to be in a band or something. -
I had a Bass that I absolutely adored. Unfortunately we got in a bit of a mess financially, and I had to sell it and my amp. I basically had to give up Bass with no prospect of ever being able to start up again. Completely shattered my heart it did. 6 months later we discovered that the financial mess wasn't our fault and we were given a lump sum that if we'd have got it when we were supposed to have it we wouldn't have got into the mess we were in, so I was able to buy a new Bass and amp. Anyway, now I have a different Bass that I had been hankering after for over 20 years. It is a far, far better Bass than my old favourite (though I'd still love to have that Bass back) and there is no force on earth that could make me sell it now.
How did a inane musical question get turned into a religious conundrum at only 3 posts in? Only on Basschat!
Sorry. It was the first example of the misunderstanding about the different meanings of the word Theory that came to mind. Probably because it's something I read a lot about.
Well, according to the definitions you provide, and quite rightly so, Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is exactly a theory in your sense number 1: 'a coherent group of tested general propositions, commonly regarded as correct, that can be used as principles of explanation and prediction for a class of phenomena: Einstein's theory of relativity'. Other examples would be Newton's theory of gravity, quantum theory etc. etc. etc. Creationists really have nothing to do with it (and I suggest you pay them little attention) but best not to fall into their game and also be a cherry-picker. The key phrase in the definition is 'commonly regarded as correct'. Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection is a theory and not a fact. BTW, in avoidance of any confusion, I am an atheist.
The point I was making was that Evolution is infact an observed and proven fact. On both the micro and macro level. So the meanings I highlighted are the ones that count. I brought up Creationists because it is their interpretation of the word Theory, being that there is only one meaning to it, the one they like, that sprung to mind because it is something I have read a lot about, so I used them as an example of the differences between the meanings. Newton's Theory of Gravity is actually wrong. It is considered "good enough" because it works on our level, however it doesn't work on very, very small or very, very large objects.

Creationists like to use the use of the word Theory to claim that Evolution is just a theory, not a fact. But they are wrong, they're just cherry picking the bits that help their cause.
First one has a minimum order of 25 euros and the second a minimum shipping cost of 15 euros, so not a great way to order one pick, really! I can't believe they're not available closer to home! @KingBollock - maybe you should go into production, there's obviously a niche in the market!
That's what my wife said when I told her what I was nicking her felt for.

Get yourselves to a craft shop. All you need is the thinnest (~1mm or less), densest felt you can find and some double sided sticky tape. The sticky tape I used was from a carpet shop, so it's quite strong. You need a strip of felt slightly wider than the pick and a little more than twice as long. Cover one side of the felt with the sticky tape, place the rear edge of the pick to one end of the strip of felt and then fold the felt tightly over the tip of the pick, covering both sides. Folding it over this way helps to keep the tip of the pick covered, else playing will wear the felt away from the tip. Use something stiff but not sharp (I used the back edge of a pair of tweezers), to score around the edges of the pick and then cut the shape out with scissors, leaving the tip edge uncut and being careful not to cut into the pick. Easy peasy.

I love my Peavey T-Max 500 with my Peavey TX410. Would love a Peavey 2x15 too. What I'd really like is a 4x10 and a 2x15 both 4Ω to get the best out of the T-Max, preferably both Peavey. Though I have to admit that I don't like the silver bars on the front of many Peavey cabs.

Until I started using the nylon version of the 3mm Big Stubby I used the old Lexan ones. I thought they would be too thick if covered in felt, but I was wrong. I wasn't enjoying the flat feel of the other Dunlop picks that I had covered so I thought I'd give the Stubby a go because of the shape and the dimple. It works a treat! It'll be interesting to see how long they last.

They're a doddle to make, I've just made one. Got a sheet of thin but dense felt from my wife and, using strong double sided sticky tape (meant for holding carpets down), stuck it to both sides of a red Dunlop pick and cut to size. I used double sided tape because I figured if I used a liquid glue it would soak into the felt and make it go hard. I have to say it sounds really cool. EDIT: Been experimenting a bit. I have found my ideal combination. I have a green felt that is thinner but more dense than the other felt that I used. I have used it on a slightly thicker, orange, Dunlop pick. This time, instead of sticking two separate pieces, one either side, to the pick I have used one piece of felt, applied the tape and folded it over the pick around the pointed end. I believe this will help the felt last longer, where as on the first one I did the felt started coming away from the tip quite quickly. Sounds absolutely bloomin' lovely.

I started getting pains in the little and ring finger of my left hand years ago. It turned out to be because I spend a lot of time at my computer and my computer desk is a corner one, so I have the habit of leaning on my left elbow. I stopped the problem using a mouse mat that has a built in gel wrist rest. Now my elbow rests on the gel pad and I no longer get the pain. Sometimes you have to think laterally to source the problem.

Bands behaving badly - Queensryche split

Anyone witnessing someone spitting unnecessarily should be legally required to punch that person in the face. If there is more than one witness then all witnesses should have a go. This includes Football players. -
I am a pick player. Unfortunately I have let other techniques get rather rusty. The thing about picks is that they are surprisingly flexible. With a 3mm Big Stubby (I now use the nylon ones because they last longer) I can get a nice soft, mellow sound or a hard clicky or thumpy sound and many sound inbetween. In my pick tin I have 8 different thicknesses of picks, from very soft upto the 3mm Stubbies to a 1mm steel pick I made from a washer. I also have metal finger and thumb picks that I started using for Banjo but find fun to use in a finger style on Bass, it's like fingers+. When people knock picks I often think that they probably aren't aware just how flexible they really are, they are far from a one trick pony. Some Bass players seem unaware that you can use alternate picking and sweep picking. I've even come across Bass players who think that you can't string skip with a pick! I started playing with a pick in the first place because I was 13 and was always injuring myself, so the fingers of my right hand seemed to be perpetually covered in plasters. The pick seemed a good solution and it just stuck.

Arthritis can come at any age, so don't dismiss it too off-handedly. I have some in my lower spine, caused by damage taken when I was 17.

Perhaps there is hope for me after all! I just need to find something similar around here.
If its pickup ring or scratchplate mounted, you need springs or rubber tube. silicon fuel hose from model shop works, and loads less fiddly than springs.
That's not the case for me, no scratchplate or mounting ring. The only reason I thought about springs was because when trying to raise one of the pick-ups it wouldn't come up because the foam is too compressed. I am going to have to take the strings off to get the pick-ups out to get at the foam and I was hoping to have a bit of manoeuvrability once I had replaced the strings without having to take them off again.
